1. Tyler 2. To write a first draft screenplay in 2 days 3. He brainstorms his story ideas. 4. He begins writing. 5. He's written 35 pages in a day. 6. He is stumped by writer's block on the next day, feeling unsure about the quality of his screenplay. 7. He remembers the true purpose of a first draft, and keeps writing. 8. He finishes his screenplay on day 2.

When I wrote my first screenplay, I decided to write it in novel form and once I hit around 30 pages I experienced major writers block, like I hit a brick wall--I thought it strange as much of the story was already in my head. So what I did was make an outline and got a stack of index cards and began writing on each index card a brief summary of what each scene is about. I would then start writing each scene in screenplay format one by one. I averaged 2 scenes per day, so I was able to complete most of the rough draft in about 2 weeks, except for the ending of the third act, which I purposefully will save for last.

@adamjnotthecongressmanschi7026 2 года назад
@@user-sr9we3il6q A lot of plays have an intermission that breaks the play into a second half. Usually, thats a turning point in the story. In a one act, usually the action is much more concentrated, and so it doesn't need an intermission. It's also for the audience's sake as well. Siting down for two and a half hours sounds like torture, but with an intermission, it's usually doable. That's my general sense anyway.

Hello, I’d recommend the Screenwriter’s Bible, writing your character, premise (goal), conflict (problem) and resolution. Then finding a beat structure that works for you, and writing out one line scene descriptions within your beat structure outline. That final outline makes it easier to write for me. Good luck 👍🏾

I watched your video three days ago and as of today, March 1st, my birthday, 2:07 PM, I have finished all 105 pages of my script and it is truly due to this video which pushed me to just sit down at my desk and write. It's always interesting to me how different writers can have such different processes. I spent so much of this video wondering why you'd skipped developing characters, then realized that you were just making an outline first. I've always done the outline after the characters, letting them dictate where it leads and hoping for some happy surprises along the way, but this also sometimes leads to overdeveloping someone who winds up being unimportant or underdeveloping someone I later realize needs more focus, so there's definitely arguments for both methods.
@harrisont2004
@harrisont2004 2 года назад
Yeah it’s interesting cause sometimes I plan my character’s arcs beforehand and sometimes I’m not sure and let the characters do their thing in the story I’ve planned. And sometimes they do their own thing and sometimes they go with it but generally in the end they’ll grow in a way that’s organic to the story I want to tell, and then I can go back and tighten it up in the further drafts. It’s the same with themes, I don’t always explicitly know 100% of what the story’s really about under the surface until it’s done, and then I can focus on that in my second and third drafts.

Okay, well. Its a right time to say this brother, this video pushed my self esteem on the chair and as I was never done it before, I took a half hour shortfilm to write in 24hrs challenge, i took it very seriously, that I didnt even get off chair for lunch and breakfast. My flatmate bff helped me to arrange it at the place. On the earlier day, I shook my bff's self esteem and challenged him to finish a 700 pages book along me in 24hrs. On first morning I started it at 10.30am and left the table at 1am. Not because I was feeling asleep but I finished the screenplay in first 14.5hrs. I was productive for whole 13hrs and used 1.5hrs for dinner and walk. Had a big smile. It felt great. Woke up at 7am on the next morning and sat on the chair at 9am. And repaired some scene for an hour. That was the end 24hrs, I bff finished the book at 11am. We had favorite food and celebrated the small victory. I found my mind is willing to take ghe major challenge. On the same day I sat on the table and started to work on a fresh feature film screenplay. I had this Idea previously on my mind but it was very weak. As I was very Confident at that time I decided to convert it into a strong one. Startes to take some points. Then I realised that wasnt enough so I tried to write 3acts in 1a, 1b with help of your another videos, even that wasnt enough so I wrote 60 one liners for each scene. It took me two days. I was productive for 9hrs on the first day, than 4 hrs, then 4, and 3. I was losing. So tried to repeat the challenge by challenging my another friend and it worked for me I was writing for 10hrs that day. Its a 15th day. I have with me, my first shortfilm (above 10 minutes) screenplay including 26 scenes on 24 pages, ready. Along with my first ever feature film first draft with 110 scenes on 96 pages ready. Its a long journey for me to turn it into the business but the experience I had was must for me and boosted me with a great confidence. Thank You Man Tyler. Pardon my grammar. It did the magic you may have imagined, while making this video. Have shared this video to others. And now, I am just thinking, "which idea should put my finger on and start off my next marathon ;-)"

I would say though, that walking, in the fresh air, could be seen as the most productive form of procrastinating, since exercise and daylight can brighten up our mood, and invigorate us. I often go for a walk when I'm feeling stuck, or my back is aching. This video follows the sentiment of "Turning Pro" by Pressfield; an amateur waits for inspiration and the fear to subside, trapped in procrastination, while the "pro" mindset knows the fear won't subside and simply does it anyway, knowing the inspiration, or "flow state" comes after the artist has started working.

That moment.. THAT moment when you had it finished. When you just.. stopped, and could finally say that you have all of that behind you, that you made it. It brought me to tears, I felt it, I absolutely felt it, because I am a starting screenwriter who has a huge problem with always starting up a screenplay and then has a huge mind block mid way through.. I had many, MANY screenplays ending up like that. I had barely a few I really finished. And even tho I cannot say I am that great at it, I dare to say that ALL of them had potential. Some of them are already lost in time and data, some of them "put under desk", and now I am trying to revisit one of my older ones just to see if I can finish it. And with this vid it could be more possible than before. Wish me luck. And thank you greatly, you've won my sub.

I've had a TV show idea for 2 years now that I've outlined the shit out of, but have never written more than 3 pages of. I just got the spontaneous idea for a short film, and this just motivated me to hopefully begin and finish a first draft for it in 9 days. Small steps!
@CueninsCove
@CueninsCove 4 года назад
So the lesson to me is: No matter how long it takes to write your script, you will go through all of these steps. (1) Confidence in your idea, you map it all out (2) You fall in love with your idea through development (3) At some point while you are writing, you will begin to hate it. Overthink it. (4) This step is either where you decide this isn’t the story for you, give up or keep writing. Great video man!

I swear, writer's block is actually a good thing! It's your brain letting you know that there's so many potential avenues to explore because the story is worth the struggle. It literally motivates you to overcome the block and then when it flows after that, you almost look back and think "I needed that internal struggle, otherwise I wouldn't have come to this conclusion" ... We all like to think that a simple story concept would flow on the page and we never get any writer's block and its perfect, but trust me, hand me a screenplay that resulted from writer's block over one that never did. You'll literally see the difference.

I have a pilot almost finished after watching your videos I’ve been inspired to finish it. John Hughes did that most weekends... Home Alone was like 1 of 2 screenplays he wrote over a weekend. Many screenwriters do just start from the first 5 pages till it's a movie, then keep writing the movie. Screenplays are at their core, 1 idea. Just need 1 idea worth writing a feature film about. Something to try also; John Hughes is not talked about enough though, it's insane he's dead.
