Getting to know these faithful men of God more intimately as they openly share their lives from dedicated hearts for the truth, this is not only helpful but most enriching to me! Thank you, Banner of Truth!

If Iain Murray is in it, I am there on the edge of my chair. What a preacher, biographer that is supreme to me and most wonderfully, my friend.

Third time I sit here & see this and all the RU-vid Banner info and so many Banner sites. Banner should be given many, many mentions as this, as Mark Dever's site referring/speaking of many BT volumes...so many saints have never dipped into the bio's, all the rest at BT and Banner friends bringing them forth. I met many pastors that never read or know of the great things done by this massive most wonderful ministry. I have supported it since the 1960's to 2023.

Listening to this video, it occurred to me, though I am a Presbyterian, I believe John MacArthur will be recognized in history as a preacher of the Gospel as great as Spurgeon, Lloyd-Jones, or any before or after them.

Indeed brother. As a Baptist, I can surely say the same about many of your own denomination. Blessings.

Glad to have watched this; it is obvious to me as only an occasional visitor to Grace Church that they value books and choosing them wisely.

If someone can explain, how does John know that God is leading him to something that he can use in sermon preparation while reading?
@travisbirket3987
@travisbirket3987 5 лет назад
It all depends on if what he is reading has anything to do with or alludes to the subject of the sermon he's preparing. The book itself doesn't necessarily have to be about the subject of the sermon but maybe a chapter or a paragraph or a sentence sparks a thought dealing with the sermon.

@@supersmart671 - I think what MacArthur was getting at was that the providence of God guides him in his reading even if he is not aware that there are connections to his sermon preparation. Part of that, I'm sure, would be that in anything he reads he is reading it through the lens of his current study. I don't know how many times I have read one book and a thought came out that connected to what I was currently studying or a like reference will come to my mind from another book. The fact is the more you read and the more widely you read you will start to see interconnectivity that may have never crossed your mind before. The main thing is to read and read good quality books. I'm certain that there are times that secular books may be needed to understand a topic thoroughly but I personally try to stay with books written by Christians and Christians who have proven their worth through faithfulness to the scripture and a devotedness to Christ.

With respect, what is up with the presenter? He keeps engaging Murray, almost as if Johns not there. Poor Mr. Murray, he is routinely having to pull John, or give him routes back into the conversation. No offense, but I have never seen such blatant over the top favortism of one speaker over another.

Well, Murray is the guest and John is the host. The conference is happening in the master's seminary, John's seminary.
