When I was young I heard a criminal profiler give a lecture. He said never allow yourself to be taken from crime scene number one to crime scene number two. He went on to explain that even if someone holds a deadly weapon on you you should fight no matter what. Even if you were stabbed and shot you may have a chance of survival and somebody may come to your aid but if you allow yourself to be incapacitated or under their control, you will not survive and you will not survive at the crime scene number two. He said do not believe the person if they tell you just do as I say and I won’t hurt you. Most people are so frightened he went on to say, that they just obey because they are so terrified and no one has ever hurt them or threaten them in their life before. But never never never allow yourself to be tied up and taken away believing they will let you go. Best advice I ever heard.

I've told my children the very same thing ever since they were old enough to listen. Scream,l kick, holler even if there's a knife or gun to your head. Do not leave the scene. It's better to take a stand and fight for your life right there. Never go away with the assailant.

Criminal profiling is an immense help and very valuable when you need more information.
@miriamsamaniego3335
@miriamsamaniego3335 2 года назад
Candace DeLong really brought criminal profiling to the forefront. She worked for the FBI and then went on to have a show on the ID channel. The Behavioral Analysis Unit at the FBI worked with police agencies from all over the country and helped solve many cases because of the help given to the police departments. It’s a very unique and thorough form of psychology. I’m glad it helped so much in this case. DNA analysis wasn’t big then, and that’s why fingerprints and testing blood smears was all they used in this case. Had this been happening now, they would have found his DNA on the women he assaulted and coupled with the criminal profiling that helps zoom in on a suspect, the perps DNA would be obtained one way or another, and the criminal would be caught quickly. So sad it happened to such a nice couple. He must have had a gun or knife to one of them in a surprise attack because she was only 49, and her husband was only in his early 50’s. So, not an elderly couple at all and that tells me that he had some sort of weapon to immediately threaten them with the harm of one of them if they didn’t both cooperate. Such an evil man and a serial killer in the making had the profiling and witness not been involved.

If you freeze frame on the handwritten list of characteristics the profiler attributes to the perpetrator, you'll see they aren't terribly specific and many of them can be inferred from the evidence. In the end, the business partner's wife solved the crime by recognizing the lists of military equipment and calling in the tip. It had nothing to do with the profiler. And, on a different topic, I wonder how the business partner and his wife now feel about the times Snow babysat their kids. Given how sick a person he turned out to be, I hope he never molested them.

That profiling sounded a little arbitrary at first but was right on. Still, what cracked the case was that phone call. Who knows if they'd been able to catch him otherwise.

I’m really glad that that woman’s friend encouraged her to turn the man in when she knew that he had written those letters! I do question this woman, her character and integrity. She claims that the man gave her the creep vibes and then after that, she thought it was OK to let him babysit her children. 😳 she also openly questioned turning the man in because she was starting her new life on Monday knowing that this guy was probably a depraved murderer. (She already KNEW the guy was a complete FREAK from his place they cleaned out)There’s so many people like her out there, too involved in their lives to be bothered to help others,and in my book for her to even question turning him in , is disgusting!!

I may be missing something, but I do not see how the profile helped identify or catch the murderer. The recommendation to publish the "list" appears to be not related to the profile. The fact that the profile fit well is fascinating, but in this case, does not appear to have helped solve the crime.
