On view at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum, January 28 - April 30, 2023, "Fragments of this Living Earth" features work that spans disciplines of printmaking, textiles, and poetry, asserting the critical interconnectedness of human and ecological wellbeing and embodying a mindset of reverence and kinship with land. This exhibition includes a new presentation of Hanesworth’s signature series, Medicine Kin, a body of work that engages concepts of ecological entanglement and more-than-human kinship through a focus on herbal medicine, a discipline which considers the well-being of our bodies in a way that is directly tied to the greater ecological community Following their trajectory from receiving both a Jerome Emerging Textile Artist Project Grant and a MN State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grant to installations at the Minnesota Textile Center and Minneapolis’ Silverwood Park comes Hanesworth’s first solo museum exhibition. Large scale printed textiles, Medicine Kin, will ground the space, along with a new series of original prints from MMAM’s 6.8 acre riverside and other work celebrating the indelible imprint the Driftless landscape has made on Hanesworth’s artistic practice.
The suite of exhibitions, Flora, is presented by the Minnesota Marine Art Museum, with support in part from our Board of Directors, the Elizabeth Calendar King Foundation, Gundersen Medical Foundation, Winona Foundation, the Winona Community Foundation, Liz Strand Cimini and other generous sustaining contributions from foundations, corporations, individuals, members and volunteers.
