It couldn't have bothered her that much. She recorded her album "Night Out" in 1979, and the next year she appeared on Ian Hunter's "Welcome To The Club" album.
Think it's safe to say that Ian Hunter's mellowed in recent decades. His song That's No Way To Treat A Lady has him firmly on the side of women, and he's even amended the Mott song Violence's lyrics to reflect a changed social landscape. Not just saying that because I like his music and writing - people do transform.
There is no shame in being a Broadway singer. Meat was a Broadway singer. Broadway singers are taught to sing without microphones. They have the best voices. Too many singers these days have only sung into microphones. A REAL voice can fill a room! Ellen has great pipes as seasoned singers say. Would love to hear Ellen talk more about her experiences with Todd Rundgren.
Ellen Foley's Spirit Of St Louis is an all time classic. Ellen Foley could have played it safe with middle of the road, conventional music, but she took risks, & Spirit of St Louis only gets better with time. And Ellen's vocal on The Clash's "Corner Soul" gives the song a very special extra dimension.
April 22, 2024 - I have a great affection for Ellen Foley. I have her first album on an LP, ( I particularly identify with her song "We belong to the night", which is so full of energy), and I remember enjoying her for a season as a member of the cast on the original Night Court TV show. I'm so glad to hear that she is still active, and still has a strong fan base. I have to smile every time I hear her voice in my head saying "what do yah wanna do.. go home and watch the Muhammad Ali, Marlena Detrich fight?", in Ian Hunter's "We gotta get out of here" song.😂😂
Hi @MrMeadfoot - full interview is here on the podcast pod.fo/e/1292cd We had a few issues on the video side of things so I never put the full interview on RU-vid, sadly.
I saw her as an opening act for ELO. It was dreadful and the audience let her know it. She left the stage at the end of her set and flipped off the audience. Just saying....
If it wasn’t for hunter Ronson on her solo album her career would of ended after her little part with meatloaf all her work after the night out album was blahhhhh
When she didn't ask Ian and Mick to produce her 2nd lp, Ian said she was committing 'career suicide'. Turns out, he was pretty much right. Even the topless photo she did for the NME couldn't salvage it.
Hunter thinks a great deal about Broadway and he considers it among the best slow songs he's ever written; check out "Broadway" on his Overnight Angels LP. Get on the list for my book about Ian Hunter solo songs for Sonic Bond Publishing.
