ironically enough, I don't think Ian got the recognition he deserved as an actor before episodes 1-3.....I mean, it seems like he was never looked as a top notch actor.... in Sleepy Hollow he was considered a simple secondary character... and nothing more
Ian Mcdiarmid is truly an amazing actor and an overall wholesome kind man. I wish I could meet him, I’m sure we would all just love to sit down and listen to him tell stories. Long live The Senate
That was the best line. The thing I love about the Emperor, especially in VI, was his ability to affect believable emotions that were transparently false. His amusement when you know his furious, or here, his sensitive sympathy when you know he's sadistically gleeful... what a wonderful layer for a good villain.
Really iconic, ruined/gets even better when you notice the ammount of evil turns palpatine does. Once is perfect, twice is fine. 4 times is memeworthy.
Same! When I first heard that story, I could totally relate bc I hate having to do a scene over and over, especially when the director stops you every 5 seconds to give directions. Not that that's what George did based on Ian's story but I totally get Ian's reaction; I'm always like "c'mon let's just run the whole freaking scene and move on!"
@@spencerdobkin9479 I considered them, but at that point they're more voice actors than anything, seeing as they're all in a heavy amount of costume/a puppet
"The Imperial Senate will no longer be of any concern to us. I have just received word that the Emperor hasdissolved the council permanently. The last remnants of the Old Republic have been swept away."
Just gotta say, Ian McDiarmid, Warwick Davis, and Rey Park are some of the most genuine and authentic actors that have been involved with Star Wars; time and time again they have some so much real enthusiasm when it comes to Star Wars, no matter how minor the role is
During his interview right after the trailer dropped, he was asked, "So, you just appeared unannounced afterwards, does that mean anything?" And he said, "Well, I was in the area and decided to stop in for a laugh." lol perfect 👌
Interviewer- “Ian McDiarmid is the only one who knows the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise by heart.” Literally every Star Wars fan- “are we jokes to you?”
Ian is such a gentle soul. What an honor and a privilege it is to see him being so humble. Despite the controversy surrounding Star Wars he will ALWAYS be one of the best bad guys cinema has ever created and he makes the character all his own. I cannot think of anyone who could fill his shoes. Long live the empire! :)
My favorite line he says is when anakin interrupts the fight between mace and then afterwards pledges himself to him. "I pledge myself to your teachings." then Palpatine says "Goooood"
I don't think so. He said that it was just a tease and that people shouldn't take it too serious. But unfortunately most people are out of their mind about it.
I think when he said they had used previous recordings for his voice, along with telling folks that it was indeed just a tease, indicates that he is not actually in the movie, or at least that he never shot any actual new scenes. This is not like Kit Harington having to lie about Jon Snow coming back to life. Ian McDiarmid almost certainly has not filmed anything new for this movie, it’s probably a gimmick and anything featuring his character will be from stock. Sorry!
My favorite quotes are ”Have you ever heard the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise?”, ”Henceforth you shall be known as Darth Vader” and probably my absolute favorite: ”The Republic will be reorganized into the first Galactic Empire! For a safe and secure society”
Ian McDiarmid should've won an oscar for his portrayal of the Chancellor/Emperor. I can't imagine anyone else playing this part, I love him in this role.
Noah Batley it seems like he voiced Palps in the Jedi Fallen Order trailer and also he seems to enjoy voice acting so if they could get him in for future games that would be amazing
As realistic and awesome Thanos is, the emperor is still one of the biggest villains of all time even if he isn't that complex, he is just the embodiment of evil.
Additionally, Ian admits @10:15 that "the entire thing is a tease... don't take it too seriously". Suspicion is that only his laugh appears in the film, or maybe a 2-second flashback. Yet everyone is going nuts about it.
I doubt he would say that if it was mostly true and it'd be kind of a spoiler, and he couldn't just say to expect a lot of Palpatine (which would be a leak if true, and a bad surprise if not. But underpromising would be a good surprise). They definitely want to keep people guessing, from the title to the laugh and everything in between, and I can't imagine after all the abandoned Force Awakens plot elements in Last Jedi that they'd disappoint disgruntled fans with a tease like this. Don't forget, it was Abrams who kept the lid on Leonard Nimoy being the primary plot device of "Star Trek", and also Abrams who teased the Khan elements of "Into Darkness" but kept insisting "oh no, it's only this generically-named bad guy John Harrison", and look what ended up happening! He later said he regretted such blatant deception, but he does love surprising the audience, and it's right out of his playbook to let people think Palpatine is a small tease only to have him be a major part of the story.
I met Mr. McDiarmid at a local con, and even though the line was really long, it was worth it. I couldn't say much because what the heck do you say to the Emperor!? So, I offered a handshake, he said, "Good. Firm handshake.", and I thanked him for taking the time to come down to our little city, and he signed my Episode III Blue Hologram Palpatine (That was later stolen, but I digress) He's a wonderful human being.
