Shawn Margaret Cohen no matter how many American films, series etc he does. Lovejoy will always be the best and most memorable.

Just looking at him sends chills down my spine, honestly. His performance as Al Swearengen left that much of an impact on me. The bastard made Jane cry! Ian seems like a great guy though.

N3RDWARD You won't be disappointed. I chanced upon it when it was at the movies, my gal and I, just the title on the poster grabbed me, and the players, of course. I am smiling, thinking of how much I enjoyed it, turning some key people in my life on to it, who enjoyed it every bit as much. Don't fret about not being able to catch on to all the accented lingo, just enjoy the ride. We've seen it a few times, and it took a few times to catch some lines. "I'm Lee Marvin" is a subtle one. PEACE

For those new to Ian McShane, see him in the English film Sexy Beast with Ray Winstone - his role as a crime boss there is no less terrifying than as Al in Deadwood.

of course in my eyes ian and timothy were the main characters in deadwood but it was said the series was actually about deadwood more than any one person and that holds true. i have never seen a series or movie that had so many different characters that were truly great in this series. i mean i take my hat off to every character in it. they all along with the director made this a truly great series and thank every actor for a job well done.

@emidore Thats almost exactly the comment i was about to make. When I saw the words "McShane" and "Blackbeard" I thought there was a realistic, gritty, brutal pirate film in the making, but was dismayed when I saw the tragically inevitable words "...Of The Caribean" a la Disney a following. Ever catering for the masses eh?

Agreed but still unacknowledged. Maybe he is not so young, or so smooth skinned or too perfect in a contemporary sense but he is more capable and believable than the faint hearted weak failures with perfect dentures and cheek bones that are forced upon us.

I think he'd make a fantastic pirate, but not in a cheesy spoof pirate movie like Pirates of the Caribbean. He should be in a hard-core pirate film where the pirates are dark, ruthless, and believable....not just a bunch of celebrities in halloween costumes.......
