Anyone remember when YoungBuck (choaching XL at the time, I believe) did a show with Dom and Thorin, and revealed that his team had a disgusting scrim record (it was 1-25 scrim record, I was very off) and they had to cut him off and ask him to explain like EXCUSE ME I think he said this was their record before picking up MikyX part way through the split/season.

H2K in 2016 were 0-25 against T1

How is that crazy you take any top sport ex basketball bottom tier NBA vs top colleges the college team would get smashed The west is basically collegiate teams and the NBA is the east

If you watched their series youd see mdk was playing fine and g2 wasn’t playing great, safe to say neither team was playing their best, imo winter finals had better level from both. It is obvious though that somehow mdk has managed to get worse over time, watching them in winter was a treat, and now every game is a coinflip even against irons.

It clearly had some positive impact, doran and viper made clear mistakes by just not understanding how Nunu works. Obviously you can't cheese every game all the way to winning finals, but every team should have some pocket picks to steal a win here and there.

I play from Asian server and people really love flyquest here because of their pick; some grandmaster player here legit never played with or vs Nunu, Ziliean before , NEVER. The caster from korea and vietnam dont even know how Nunu should build btw. The West should prioritize off meta pick and consider it legitimate not just a gimmick; that's what Fly did. Oh, Ziliean is the most unknown the most broken champ in league btw, tank ziliean for example, with grasp ,warmog, heartsteel, zhonya, revive ult, you got a cc tank who would never die and extremly good at secure objective like nunu. Stop playing into your enemy strong point.

In LCK there is a phrase "headbutting dinosaur (박치기 공룡)” to call the situation. We use the phrase to refer to a situation where all teams are grinding the exact same meta and headbutting at each other to see who is slightly more proficient. Teams that stand on the higher end of the ranking are the "dinosaurs" who can run over mooses and rams in the lower rank. When Adam showed up with his "G.O.D.S." picks in 2023 Worlds Koreans fell in love with him because of the out-of-the-box strategy. But here's the big problem: it is very hard to develop a working comp or a strat. This is why looking at everyone else's meta and grinding it to become a headbutting dinosaur is the path of least resistance in LCK. For a team to have a drastically unique color and also be competitive someone in the team - be it from players or from coaches - should have a pool of experience and insight that transcends year-to-year changes in meta and balance. They should also be willing to take risks and eager to try something new, both before and after "minions spawn." It's probably why people root for the rivalry between T1 and G2.

You can never improve if you do that. They need to avoid top teams like T1 GEN BLG. But they should at least try to be competitive against WBG which is not even the true LPL 4th seed. MAD were doomed from the beginning since they didn’t even deserve to participate at Worlds. BDS and SK were clearly better. MAD scrimming T1 is like DIG scrimming T1. Makes no sense. As a 5th seed MAD did their job. Getting out of playins.

While It Is a correct approach for the swiss stage where you play bo1 and bo3. In longer series you are the underdog as you need different strategy for each game (so minimum 3) to pass One turn, so in the long run you still need to at least match the opponent on their board as they can study your start and ban it

@@adamszabo2874 yes they can. asian teams literally play the same like 20 champs always. there are almost 170 champions in the game, if only any of the teams started exploring new interactions, compositions etc maybe they could come up with unique things, but no, everyone play safe with cookie cutter tech that been solved long ago. and thats precisely the issue, playing solved meta is pointless against players that are better than you, thats why for example they won that nunu game, enemy couldn't adapt fast enough.

Culture, the west only cares about the bag. There are LCS/LEC people making x2 if not x5 more money than LCK/LPL players. They also just stay in pro teams for years and years just because they had 1 or 2 good games, they live of couple good performances while in China and Korea they eat you alive for bad cs and want you out. Westerners just settle for money and green cards.

Except so many teams do say they get so much better scrimming asian teams. Its just not enough to beat them

Yeah I wish the western teams would ignore the eastern meta and play their own styles. There's 150 champions and the meta consists of like 50. You can't tell me that the other 100 champions are so much worse that they're unplayable.

You guys try to make it sound like stylistic differences but it's nonsense. KR/CN consistently find the best meta faster than everyone else. You copy it because it's the best and they've already figured out how and why it shits on everything else. There are some rare exceptions and niche picks but most of the time you're better off learning the same meta and trying to become as good / better at it than to re-invent the wheel and give it a square shape.

to be fair poe is a maths game so you just follow the maths for the most part, sure there is good off meta build but there is often a good reason why their not meta and you might not like that reason so its not surprising to see a meta following comminity here too

real. even when you focus on the PvE side of games like Elden Ring, people tend to mock those who play with weapons that aren't great, but also not outright dreadful. It's that weird area where it isn't strong enough to stomp, and not terrible enough to be deemed a challenge (ex. Yuumi jungle). A lot of weapons of that sort get ridiculed as a consequence of being in that middle zone. Where players mock them by saying "you might as well use bare fists", or "why pick that weapon when X is better." Except, in some cases the so-called subpar weapons end up outperforming the so-called OP ones when players actually invest time with experimenting and using the tools at their disposal to improve them. Thinkering and creativity is how people make things like miss fortune support a viable situational counterpick. What makes statikk shiv on malz a monster wave clear combo, among other things. Though in the case of league, it's not just the community, but also the game that compartmentalized and narrowed player creativity by undoing things like item stacking. Or changing items moonstone so that it is only usable with champions that already have shields. It was so funky seeing Brand top the healing charts with moonstone a few years back. Similar case with Ashe and old font of life.

@jujunul it's more mathematical than LoL, sure, but there's so much undiscovered. People love Gorathas Archmage Heirophant, but an archmage dd of chain reaction necromancer does more damage with investment and is a better league starter imo

I consider that if an org can bring 4 complete randoms and do a top2 and get to worlds in a year with only 3 seeds (i know the format is weird but still won G2 in a bo5 and BDS had the chance to do the same one week later and failed). In my opinion the criticism and hate should go to the other 7 orgs not putting a better fight in a whole year to kick them out of worlds and represent us "better". Also btw MAD has won more LECs than FNC since LEC is actually LEC, with 3 for MAD and 0 for FNC in the last 6 years. But can agree worlds performance has been shameful these last few years and this time wasnt an exception.

Their win against JDG didn't feel convincing at all, neither did the one against TL. but then they halt Fnatic's momentum and go on a complete domination doublet, and it really makes me think of Longzhu in 2017, just looking in complete control and never feeling like the enemy team ever had a chance of staging a comeback. Other than that, they are so sloppy and outright infuriating to watch. I love them.

I don’t think 2023 G2 were better than bottom LPL LCK teams except MAYBE DK. Which they only played a bo1 which is not proof. And at that time they still had decent scrim results. They were the « scrim World champions ». So this year when G2 is a top 5-7 team in the world they should have at least decent scrim results.

BB is on wunder's level. Caps is older than he used to be. Adc boy from FNC wasn't anything special just hyped up on a good team. What made G2 special was their X factor in certain metas and asians were worse believe it or not.

except you're not going to win against eastern teams by playing meta against them. If you've put 100 hours into playing meta, then the eastern teams would've put 1000 hours into it. You're not going to win against them by playing their game. Look at G2. The reason why G2 has been historically such a strong team against eastern teams is in large part due to their champion pool. Yike, Bb, and Caps all have huge champ pools and they cook a lot with it. Before BB joined, they had perkz, who also fit the same script. It's a very different game when you're so used to playing against syndra, azir and then suddenly have to play against roaming pyke mid. The difference between G2 and flyquest though is that G2 can hold their own ground a lot better as individuals. They just have the best western talent, so they're not 5k gold behind coming out of laning phase. Flyquest just needs to work on laning phase and making sure they come into baron/dragon fights even in gold.

The west will never beat the Eastern teams in the same 'meta' because the eastern teams have clearly played the same draft way more than any Western team. The Western teams, Like Flyquest trying to take games with 'off-meta' picks is the real only way of winning. Sure, it's very cheesy and won't work twice but that's one of the very few ways to win against the top Asian teams as clearly shown over past few years.

@@orlandochun1591 nah, but I won multiple European cups in world of tanks and winning was so easy when every player mained 2 tanks. It works the same way in every pro game. The more you know your champion/tank, the more brain resources you free up for inconsistent and unpredictable elements of the game. Moreover, your teammates know your capabilities and impact better, so teamwork is partially instinctive. Surprising won’t work when enemy comp is from heaven. Every season I played a thousand of games on 2 meta light tanks in ranked + hundreds of games in scrims and no one could match that. Literally never lost my 1v1 light matchup, because others played multiple tanks “for fun”. FLY won exactly because they played their comforts and most played champions when they had nothing to lose. Sadly, in the last game they decided to “tryhard” 😭 I wish they continued with comfort picks.
