Waiting to hear back from Local 11! I Decided to jumpstart my skills by enrolling into Vocational school and I am loving it so far but an Apprenticeship with IBEW is the dream.
Don't give up Fernando. I've been retired a few years now from Local 11 and the struggle is worth it. It took me almost 7 years to get in because at that time you needed a relative or to know someone to get in. Not so anymore but it still can take time. Keep bugging them to get in! Retiring from 11 you'll have 3 pensions, a nice annuity and health care. It's a good trade where you can take pride in your work and your union.
@@john65645 What’s up, boss. Local 11 foreman for Transportation. Roughly how much were looking at when retiring? I’ve heard many different numbers but I don’t know anyone who has retired to really have a feel for that. If you don’t mind.
@Hector Morales I had just under 30 years of work credit. 44,599 hours and before taxes local 11 pension is at just over $3,700, NEBF pension at just over $900 and international pension is $128 per month. Annuity has been rolled over and invested and I'm pulling $1500 a month from that. If you are married and your spouse gets a pension bravo, that will help. I have to budget now more to avoid overspending than anything but that's to be expected after retiring from two full time incomes. I'm in Colorado now so my tax burden is more likely less and my house is paid off. Full Social Security for me in one year and my wife in two and with that our income will double.
this is a super long comment and sorry in advance and thank you for your time in advance ....This video was very emotional only because things that you want to do your house and the career & family - my dad accomplished that with working 35 years for local 3 I.B.E.W (A journeyman) in New York City . He was very proud of this union and what it stands for. I never got to see how he worked and I knew he worked as an electrician bending pipe , scissor lifts working high voltage so strong you got to wear a insulated suit. He will often show me places that he worked at like if we were at home Depot he would say I put up that light or I did that fire system. I learned a few things here and there watching him as I was younger now I think I'm confident doing basic work camera system, doorbell, basic wiring three-way switches . Now that he passed I don't want to call just any electrician to do any big work like run a 240 line for my AC or in the future I get a electric car I need a wall charger. Wondering if IBEW has program for families to hire a local 3 or ibew electrician at discount help a fellow brothers family out. Electricians are too expensive that's what you guys make the big bucks. Of course some of you might comment oh when I asked one of his friends I guess he's an introvert like me he didn't have too many friends or any of his contacts and correct me if I'm wrong but the type of work he was always jumping around from one job to the next so it was more like coworkers. you work a job a month or two and that's done you go to the next jobsite you find another crew you kind of don't have time to have a long lastingbond ( my opinion of course)
Waiting for the guy to push the fish tape through 2 saddles and an offset and who knows what else when he could’ve rolled it on top and avoided the saddles
16 year electrician with master license in TX and NC I recently inquired about joining my local ibew, I didn't receive the info they said they would send but I'm still interested. Will probably reach out again
@@chrisbeaudoin9818 That was my thought I’m at a job where we have to do safety everything good for him he don’t have to wear it gets annoying having your shoulders pulled all day but the video yeah lol
@@jschroeman This is the answer. While its common for companies to have more restrictive safety rules like requiring them in any work done above certain heights regardless of how you got up there. But OSHA says they aren't mandatory in scissor lifts.
Yes you are right it's never easy but it pays the bills and keeps the benefits going. My father traveled when I was young I did it when daughter was young.
Don't forget about brotherhood they don't teach you that in school anymore. The IBEW sets the standard for wages not your contractor. The longer you stay at a contractor the more you hurt the union.
Sucks my apprenticeship wouldn’t let me continue in my last year because I didn’t want to get the vaccine. We were the only local pushing it this hard and so many apprentices were screwed over because of it. I wish they didn’t choose politics over they’re people. Especially now since the pandemic is basically over 😒. Nothing but love, and the pipe work looks amazing. Sincerely, 595 apprentice stuck in limbo.
