Nice instructional video. By using the Passband Tuning knobs, you can practically eliminate any atmospheric noise from the CW tone by using them independently. Turn PB1 one way, and turn PB2 the opposite putting a very steep skirt on both sides of the carrier frequency, rather than turning both passbands in sequence. Might want to give that try sometime. The IC-7300 is a joy to use and operate!
The result of doing that is the same as making the filter more narrow. You get the same results. Compare and see. I can't tell any difference. If you do that, watch the little window in the center get more narrow as you turn them in opposite directions. That center window is your passband. You still end up with the noise in the center.
Steve - Nice, clear explanations and advice. I think you might find the noise less objectionable if you used the onboard DSP from Icom. I use my NR all the time. It is best to leave it between 9 and 1130 on the dial - that way you don't over process the signal.
At last something I can apply to my 7300. I've been neglecting buying the darn thing because I found it to be lousy on cw. I haven't turned it on for 2 months and relying on my 756 PRO II.
