Tom I purchased an IC-705 three weeks ago and so far I have been able to use just about all the modes accept Dstar. If you have the time could you make a video about the internal DV settings. I also purchased RT Systems program and cable. We only have four Dstar repeaters here in central Mississippi but I’ve not heard and activity on and of the Dstar repeaters. Now all of the FM repeaters work just fine but I can’t seem to get Dstar repeaters to respond. I used the calculator in RT systems but still no joy. I think I’m just missing and step. I also have an ic7300 and really enjoy your A to Z Icom videos. 73 wd4dda
I'm more familiar with my new IC-7100 now than I could ever be y reading the book. I'm ore of a kinesthetic learner, or visual, than if I read a book and then try to "do", so this is invaluable to me. Thanks, and I hope you will continue this series.
I had talked to the Gigparts chat line and the person there told me that I had to buy the RT Systems programming cable so I did. It does have a 3.5mm connector that plugs into the remote port. I found out later the USB cable would have worked. I think that is why the directions at 3:18 popup are written this way.
Okay most of us have a cable for the data port. Why not make a video using a "data" cable and the ICOM software? I agree comming from the origonal IC706 to the 7100 is unbelievable thanks for the series and thanks for the time that you have given to do this series.
Hi Tom, Fred g4vvq here, i want to run RS BA 1 Icom remote software, i assume the settings on this video would be the same on the ic 7100, as that uses the usb cable, i am intending to run windows 11 on one computer and windows 10 on the other, i have had the 7300 working with 2 win 10 laptops....Fred.
Thank you so much for this series of videos, I have learned a tremendous amount about my Radio! Please please keep them coming really looking forward to info on Digitial Voice/Dstar info.
Your comment when you were correcting the RepeaterBook D-STAR cannel (time 21:00) K0MDG was programmed incorrectly. You said RPT1 should be K0MDG(space)B. To help the viewers, the correct programming of the YourCallsign column was correct CQCQCQ but the RPT1 colum should have been, using (UPPERCASE), KOMDG(space)(space)B to make a total of 8 characters in the box. Same applys to the RPT2 entry of KOMDG(space)(space)G to make a total of 8 characters. So if the callsign in this example was N2PB the correct RPT1 would be N2PB(space)(space)(space)B. Same applys to the RPT2 column, KOMDG(space)(space)(space)G. You must always have 8 characters in the RPT1 AND RPT2 colums and the letters must be in CAPS not lower case. Hope thats clear as mud. Great youtubes!
Nice video. Question. I have the RTS software for the 7100. I have not found how to write the file to the SD card and not have to use a cable connected to the rig. Does anyone know if it's possible?
Hi Robert. Thanks for the kind words. The RT Systems software uses the Clone function that normally allows you to connect 2 IC-7100s together and copy all of the settings and frequencies from one to the other. They have obviously reverse engineered the communication that happens between 2 radios. Using the SD card would require creating a .ICS file. AFAIK, that file format is proprietary and Icom doesn’t publish it. It may be that reverse engineering the file format is more difficult or maybe there are some legal restrictions that prevent it. If I find any way to do it with an SD card, I will definitely post a video about it.
Yes. If you click on the Settings option on the menu bar you will see an option for Radio Menu Settings. That option pops up a window with multiple tabs. In those tabs you can change every option that is available in any of the settings menus. You'll find power settings under "Common 2". 73, Tom
7100 RT Sys question... How do i program a repeater tone AND a Rx Tone... Programming a tone - i understand & works,. but if i want a Rx tone do I enter a SQ tone, but then the Tx tone gets grayed out.. What am i missing. Is the 7100 not able to have both a RX & Different Tx tone ? Or am i in the wrong Column ? What am I missing ?
Hi. If you need to have separate RX and TX tones, you need to change the Offset Direction. Instead of + or - DUP, you need to select SPLIT. Then you enter the TX and RX frequencies separately. All of the Tone columns will grey out. Further to the right there is another set of Split Tone columns with Tone Mode, CTCSS and Rx CTCSS.
I believe you can order a package from RT systems that comes with the software and whatever cable you need for your radio. Or, you can order online and just download the software immediately. I did the latter.
At 18:45 you show how to select the Bands you actually want from the repeaterbook dump, and then you cut an paste these over to your 7100 list. STOP, and click on the button to your left of the selected bands box (Create File for 7100), and presto, it creates the exact dump you need WITH the Callsign + G etc lists into a new table. Then copy and paste - and you are done. No selecting back and forth adding all the missing fields. Great tutorial btw - watched it 2x already.
