He could've defeated those with the sats but he concentrated them over his territory so they only fired on them after they separated into MIRVs. Those laser sats are powerful if you can get enough of them spread out in an orbit that gives them constant coverage of approaches around your territory while SAMs deal with anything that makes it close.

Aye MIRVs alone are hard to defeat because you need 3 separate ABMs to take them out but those false warheads make it nearly impossible, especially when you consider that saturation of defences is a thing.

The false warhead was designed to counter defenses. Still. Swarming more fighters and says sounds well rounded. At the time it looked to me like the batteries of as we're concentrating their fire on single warheads and were not engaging later weapons incoming, perhaps due to a cooldown.

Do satellites shoot over enemy territory? Because then the whole "only deploy over Europe" wasn't the best strat...

That and, because of how much easier it is to attack than to defend, even with your immense defenses you were just saturated.

wasting those MIRVs and Heavy rockets on AA units is kinda a waste too. The point of MIRVs is that you don't have to give a shit about AA units.. lol

I tried and failed to have 8x fully upgraded SAMs defend against 1x 4+4. I tried circle formation, where 8x SAMs surrounds a target, and failed. I tried line formation, where 8x SAMs lined up in the path of the missile. and failed Most of the time 2+ SAMs goes after the same warhead, while some misses. About 4-5 warheads always got through.

The trick is to go full offensive and to have everything ready before getting nuked

If you got advanced ABM, plus a thick air defense cover and good quality early warning assets, the only reals threats left are hypersonic missiles and MIRV, usually, everything else get destroyed. The reason they are not firing ABMs is either if you dont have the upgrade or if the warheads / missiles are spotted too late.

Interesting point. I need to intercept the ICBMs in their space phase, not their landing phase. My sats were positioned wrong.

@@Stealth17Gaming yea, that was the whole point of the SDI (Star Wars) lasers, was to hit misslies near the end of their boost phase, or before they reached apogee and started into warhead separation. As you saw, you had your sats all passing overhead in the same 30 to 40 seconds real-time, at which point you are talking about missiles/warheads in the terminal phase, and taking out an RV with a laser is a... troublesome proposition at the best of times.

@@zagreus1249 it still is. the neutron burst penetrates basically everything, but only kills biological live and leaves structures unharmed.

So yes, it would irradiate an area. But, one has to keep in mind the process. Gut feeling - all of the vertical concrete in a city would limit the effects of the radiation as it would simply be absorbed locally. Maybe intercepting the warheads upon launch or prior to spread could work. Maybe I need a bigger navy

The designers avoided geosync, since that would make sats OP for factions with equatorial territory - or at least that would be a valid reason to avoid it. Africa and South America could have 24/7 coverage on some of their territory, and the rest would be in much weaker positions.

mo, the problem was the fake warheads. 4 nukes plus 4 fakes thats 8 warheads at one target and pretty much impossible to intercept ( except he surrounds every city with like 12 SAM-sites)

Stealth17 Gaming from my experience, yes, although they tend to start those wars quite lately. I also noticed that the AI will always retaliate on the country that fired first (even if an AI wasn’t a target), it seems it’s also more likely you will be kicked out of an alliance if you fired first.

As for tactics, i have tried ICBM, SSBN, bombers with and without shielding at the beginning. And i concluded that beginning the game by focusing solely on detection and air defense and then focusing on 1/2 tech (bomber or ICBM or SLBM... etc) was the way to go. IMO, for this to work correctly, you should fully upgrade air defenses, ABM, LW and SW radar and research all the way to early warning. A well organised Detection + Air defense network will deal with most threats except maybe MIRV and false warheads and hypersonic missiles. Adding to that, Hypersonic ALBM although they have a very short rate of production have a negligible yield on cities while the MIRV icbms are expensive to produce so unless the enemy got a huge stockpile, you wont see a lot of those, perhaps not a single one if you wait before firing. All of that turtling / shielding will be nullified if you fire first tho, as every single enemy will see you as a threat and fire at you at the same time, overwhelming your defenses. This tactic works especially well with South America, North America or Pacific (for which a navy can do the job of detection / air defense). However, you rarely end up as 1st but you reduce damages a lot and imo, preserving most of the population is a victory by itself :)

Also, your satellites weren’t really effective because they engaged the MIRV after those had separated and in their terminal trajectory where those are the fastest, meaning they couldn’t engage the 8 warheads on time. For it to be really effective imo, the satellites need to be spread over the globe to intercept the MIRV icbm before them separating and let air defense do the job.
