James Rolfe and Mike Matei try out a NES black box classic. Ice Climber! Follow Mike on Twitch / mikemateilive James Twitter / cinemassacre James and Mike Mondays Episode 296
The beginning of the game features a mountain, a bird, and an eggplant. If I'm not mistaken, in Japan, it is considered good luck to have a dream on New Year's Eve that features those three things. Is it a complete coincidence that this video was posted on New Year's Eve?
Ooooooh, so that's why in Kill la Kill a certain character says that the pattern on her pajamas is one mt. Fuji, two hawks and three eggplants! I always thought it was so random to state that!
In the version I played as I was a kid, the enemy who push ice cones and repair the layers is something like seals, not a fluffy ball. Perhaps because it’s the Japanese version.
If i remember correct in EU version threre were seals, too, but it is 25 years since i played this game, i might be wrong. Edit: I recalled there were also polar bears or it was yetis.
I been waiting a Ice Climber sequel for decades, is perfect for the Switch, a sequel with online game and new play modes with new bosses, gonna be great!
I remember playing Ice Climbers before I was even aware of Smash. I had a GBA when I was a kid in the Philippines, and the cartridge I had for it was like a compilation of many NES titles, including Super Mario Bros., Urban Champion, Wrecking Crew, CastleVania, and yes Ice Climbers. This video just takes me back to when I played that game.
Playing a retro game, At night. Playing it a James house, At night. Uploading the video of us playing the game, At night. 🎵Night Night Night Night🎵 🎵Night Night Night Night🎵 🎵N-N-N-N-NIIIIIIGHT🎵 NIGHT!
First Game Grumps played this, now James & Mike. How fitting since Smash Ultimate came out the same month which marked the return of the Ice Climbers. =P
I wish Nintendo would make a 3d (or 2.5d) Ice Climbers game for the Switch! Can't believe the series has only one game that's even more than 30 years old, after how popular they were in Smash!
But anything that I find challenging or is different from the things I know and am comfortable with is frustrating! And if I'm frustrated, that means it's a bad game and anyone who likes it is wearing nostalgia goggles.
@@mtoad You said it. YOU are the one getting frustrated. Just because you can't adapt or you don't like a mechanic doesn't mean everybody else doesn't either. There's a reason Ice Climbers were on Smash, and it's because in the end it was a good and popular game, so get your sh*t together and go play Fortnite if you don't like this era of gaming.
Sweet memories coming into my mind with your Ice Climber video.. I remember playing this title in 1984 at home on my own NES. Must still have it somewhere in my house. Should maybe grab it out and replay it..! HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!! :-)
Perfect to play considering how cold it's been recently! This is one of the first NES games I've ever played along with SMB1, Duck Hunt and Balloon Fight!!
There's another way to jump into a bigger arc but you need to build momentum by running. It's rather difficult, but possible. As always great video. Keep it guys and have a happy new year 2019!!
When I was a little kid like elementary school Me and my friends loved this game so much. My friend and his family went on vacation we were fiening so bad to play this we broke into his house for 4 days we climbed throw his basement window we broke and went in his room and played ice climber.
I have all of these James and Mike Mondays episodes on NAS and just watched them through. I have no bonus episodes etc cutouts from original videos you sometimes upload, but this is actually episode 305 on my James and Mike Mondays folder... :D
I got it for GBA when there was that re-release of the classic NES games. It's frustrating. Good, but frustrating. Even this video was frustrating to watch, but that's just how the game is :D I gotta say that I like those old games because they're difficult. I grew up to be very patient and resilient because of video games :D
