Thank you for posting! This was the problem with my frigidaire countertop ice maker. My noise was more of a chattering that would come and go from the right side of the machine. I also took this opportunity to remove all the hoses and clean them. It was pretty easy, the whole process took about an hour. My ice maker is back in business. Thanks again!
Fixed my Fridgidere Portable Ice Maker today as it was squealing.... Trick don't forget to install the little round iring lol.. Or it will leak... Reinstalled and the squeal is gone. Thank for the video.
This did it! It enraged me every time I heard the squealing. I was told to “switch the type water you use”. We tried distilled, spring, purified… NOTHING worked. You saved our sanity. Thank you.
You’re welcome, Glad I could help. I couldn’t imagine using the machine with that squeal. I’ve always used filtered water from my RO set up and the squeal still happened to me after a few years. These ice machines really work well for what they are. Worth looking into a fix rather than throwing it out.
It actually does have something to do with your water that caused the issue, I think. If you use tap water, this will occur sooner. Distilled water will delay it, but I don't think that'll be good for your health as it will draw the electrolytes out of your blood, I think. Use purified water; I don't mean pure or britta filter, those don't do squat. Either use the machines at the stores that you can get gallons for cents as long as you use your own container, or bottled water. I just wish they had the pump more accessible for cleaning.
Yup, took the steel back plate off, located the pump and removed the rotor. Had some film on it that probably caused the rotor to stall. Made sure none of the water passages were blocked (none were), put it back together and works good as new!
Nice thank you man this works! Mine was starting to sound like a construction crane. Had some small pieces of hard water deposit in it. MUCH APPRECIATED.
Hey thanks so much this seems to have fixed the horrible noise in my newair ice maker there was actually hair wrapped around the little metal rod that goes into the impeller - that seemed to be the main issue
Fantastic video I have that exact icemaker that makes the same noise. I’m looking forward to fixing it thank you for your contribution to fixing my icemaker
Hope it works for you! When you take the impeller out make sure the magnet part is super smooth. I had to run my finger nail over some stuck on grit to get it smooth.
Try adding a couple of cups of vinegar to descale the pump. Run icemaker and after 20-30 minutes the noise stopped. Let it run for an hour then drain and refill with water. Run again to rid the taste of vinegar
Good video but I must have a more recent, cheaper machine where there is no drain for the tap water tank and the pump is hidden underneath the ice tank. The front stainless pannel is glued in place too. It's not repairable but I'll try to descale it with vinegar. Frigidaire brand, model EFIC452-SS-CU for reference.
Every video I see says this squealing comes from a different source. Some have me oiling the the gearbox, some have me oiling fans, some say the pump. But I think we're all hearing the same squeal...
On this unit the pump stops running after it’s made the ice cube but before it’s fallen from the grate. It starts running again after some time to make another batch of cubes. You could rule out other parts of the noise only happened while the pump is running.
would have like to hear the squealing sound to determine if its the same as the sound mine is making. the sound mine is making is constant as soon as i turn it on until i turn it off. was thinking maybe a bad bearing.
Why do you say to not tip the machine? I have a Frigidaire ice maker that is making a horrible noise since I took it apart to clean off the fan and the filter and I'm wondering if tipping has something to do with it though I have done this before to dump out the water cuz I couldn't get the plug undone
Since these mini ice machines have an oil filled condenser much like a regular fridge. It’s not recommended to use it right after it’s been tipped to it’s side. Most experts say to wait a few hours before use after it rests in the upright position again. This allows the oil to settle back to where it should be. I’d suggest finding and cleaning the water pump to see if that fixes your problem.
So the pump will be running supplying the water over the ice making grate. The only reason for the pump to stop is if the water supply ran out, or the ice bin is too full. It’s going to be louder than a fridge because it has a compressor and a water pump. If the sound is loud like nails on a chalk board. Take a look at cleaning the pump.
