It is so important to support our sister Spinners and weavers in Central and South America. I am glad there is someone supporting the alpaca farmers, spinners and weavers in Peru.

Hi Lisa, I dug out my Icelandic stash, from my own sheep and spun a 4.7 oz skein of Lopi 2 ply. You inspired me. I don't knit (yet) but I do weave triloom and circle hat loom. The sheep were very sweet and intelligent. I no longer have them as my age overtook my strength. I miss them everyday. I do have their wool though, enough for the rest of my life. It was processed in the mill where I once worked into Pin Drafted Roving bumps and off the card. Still needs lots of drafting but you can spin Lopi on a Turkish spindle from it ( mine is an 18" square shaft which I thought was made by Clemes and Clemes but was actually home made by someone.) I did put all 4.7 oz on it when plying but no more could have fit. It's a HUGE skein with only 72 yards. Love your episodes. You have a great talent and I actually binge watched. Love the flowers and dog. Happy retirement.

My notification that you posted popped up, but I wanted to savor knowing it was in my que. So for the 4th of July, I am treating myself to watching! You will totally rock that red shawl. I can see that it will be beautiful with your coloring. So jealous, as a red/brown haired person, red is a very tricky color for me to wear. Loved seeing your Icelandic Lopi journey. I attended the MAFA fiber conference last weekend and I took a two-session class on spinning Northern Short Tail breeds.The kit was 4 samples of fleeces which we carded, combed, flicked, spun from the lock. Icelandic was one of them, and it had both parts there. We had to separate the tog from the thel. I did manage to spin a thick Lopi single sample. It was not as nice as yours. I so love your show, and I always learn something!

What a delightful podcast - I became quite fascinated with your descriptions of Icelandic wool although living in Australia I rarely knit (not myself a spinner)very bulky yarns. I can imagine however that if finely spun the same yarns would make fabulous very beautiful lighter-weight garments as well. I will be looking out for your future podcasts for sure - thankyou !!

I’m back. I wanted to tell you about a podcast called Cias Bod or possibly CiasBod. She podcasts in English and in Swedish. She spins, weaves, knits, and lots of other things. She knits quite a lot with her hand spun. She will be having surgery in a couple of weeks but she has about 100 previous podcasts to enjoy until she comes back.

Thank you for another very informative and entertaining podcast - I love the information in your pods about different types of wool and how you prepare and spin them. Your spindle spinning tutorial was one of the first ones I watched when I started to learn how to spin and it was so incredibly helpful (I watched it several times)! Also, your leftover spinning project looks so fun, I can't wait to see how that yarn turns out. As for podcast recommendations, I enjoy watching Cias Bod, by a Swedish knitter and spinner. Another podcast I enjoy is Marina Skua, she is an English knitwear designer who also has her own range of hand-dyed yarn in wool from local farms - her podcast is a lovely mix of knitting, knitwear design, spinning, yarn dyeing, other crafts and some pretty nature footage. And I can see someone already mentioned Tiny Fibre Studio, another vote for that podcast from me :) Thank you for the pod recommendations, I will certainly check them out and look forward to seeing you again next time you publish a podcast.

Well, shoot. I had planned to go to The Woolery tomorrow, but they're closed for the 4th of July holiday. (sniff...) So, I will still be a few weeks away from getting my first wheel! But, I'm still looking forward to spinning away!

Your approach to fiber is so in depth. I am a teacher and a weaver. I am starting to learn more about fibers and using natural dyes that grow here in Tennessee. Hi, Lisa. These gray January days in central Virginia draw me to comforting things like your spinning videos! I found your channel during the pandemic when I was teaching myself to drop spindle and I have followed you ever since. I have done quite a bit of spinning and I do use my hand spun yarn in projects and find that very fulfilling. Additionally, I am a musician and my late husband was a performing songwriter. Some of the music that you use in your videos often reminds me of his music. He was very prolific songwriter because he knew his time was short. He was diagnosed with grade 4 brain cancer when he was 30 years old, left the corporate world and returned to his songwriting - made a living doing it! He survived a miraculous 14+ years with GBM4. Long story long, a song during this podcast reminded me of one of my favorite songs of his, the link to which I will include below. (I sing back up a little in it.) He wrote the song about his mother who died last week at the age of 93, so it’s bittersweet. Tussen mijn 20ste en mijn 40ste heb ik niet meer gebreid, maar daarna weer met veel plezier. Trish at Fiber Love Diary also does a lot of raw fleeces, spinning, weaving, dying, etc. and she is really great to watch. Between you and Trish l told my husband l will be purchasing a fleece this year. I don't have a drum carder but do have a few hand tools. Would love to find a gently loved carder for sale. Really enjoyed your show today.

You don't need a drum carder for Icelandic. Hand cards are great and Viking combs are even better.

I love watching your podcasts. They are both educational and relaxing. I have introduced you to my daughter. She is a ED nurse for Mayo Clinic plus a first responder. The high stress level of the last year has had some negative results with her health. She loves your podcasts and has now purchased her first Spinning Wheel, plus fiber, and books you have recommended. I have a spinning wheel, but have purchased a new spinning wheel and a e-spinner. Hi Lisa-- Loved seeing and hearing about your Icelandic fiber study. At the moment I am spinning for a fiber study spin that started on my little Jenkins 'wren' spindle. About 10 days ago I received the IST craft spindle I ordered from Ian and have not been able to put it down. The little brass weights that he embeds at the end of arms makes for an amazing amount of spin. I am in love. Next month is my birthday so I will be treating myself to another spindle made by Ian. The rain in your podcast was very nice to see. We are having 113 degree weather here in Oregon today -- so very hot!! Thanks so much for your podcast! It touches my heart and soul.

I've never Spun, but am totally Fascinated! I have been knitting/crocheting for 55+ years and almost entirely with acrylic yarns. In 2019 I decided to do my first “natural" project, knitting a cable yoke dress in Superwash Merino/Tencel so not entirely natural fiber. I am looking for a beginner spindle and will venture down the rabbit hole. The darker wools really catch my heart. I really appreciate and love your podcasts. And Peaches! ❤️🧶👵🧶❤️

Hi, thank you for a new video, I really like all the craft parts. I have enjoyed your last video, too, good for you playing the piano again, I am still continuing with my online lessons and Einaudi is my favourite as well (though I mostly listen, my playing is not there yet :o)). Also, the last segment resonates with me, we have had strong storms in my country since Wednesday, even a tornado which unfortunately also claimed lives - a total rarity in my part of the world (Central Europe). I was lucky enough not to be harmed (nor our house), but it makes me look at the storms a different way indeed. Thank you for a piece of calm in the middle of this.

Icelandic's are my favorite breed of sheep, and I love working with the wool they produce. So many different uses for 1 fleece! My favorite way to spin Lopi is on a drop spindle, mostly with the stop and go of a drop spindle I can control the consistency better in the yarn weight and also the tightness of the spin, or looseness since we are talking Lopi. Separating out all of the tog to enjoy the thel can be a labor of love, especially getting the 2nd layer of tog out! but the finished garment is lovely against the skin.

Thanks for the suggestion! I agree that you can control the diameter so much easier in a spindle. I am spinning some tog only on a drop spindle and am just this evening trying the batt I carded in one of my heavier drop spindles. 💕

Love your videos. My fave wool to work with is Icelandic for sure. As always it sure depends how they are raised and where and what they are fed. I have a dear friend who raises her flock on thick green grass and the fleeces are most amazing to work with in North Eastern California. Btw, they all come when called and are very tame, great moms, and even the ram she has is pretty easy to deal with. The lamb fleeces are perfect for garments against the body and the adult fleeces make great lace weight spun up for lopapeysa sweaters. Thnx for sharing all your knowledge.

So glad to see you back! Even my husband was concerned about if you were coming back. Still haven’t tried woolen spinning, but it’s on the “list”. Got my tiny wool room up and running with husband built beautiful shelving and counters. Tried some combing now that there’s space for the tools, but need longer wool, I guess. Loved this episode! I just finished washing an Icelandic fleece last week, first time washing one of these and I couldn’t believe how soft it turned out when compared to the let lopi yarn I have in my stash so I think your right about the hand processing. I hope to spin lace wt for a warm shawl but still undecided.

Thank you for all inspiration. I'm learning so much watching your shows and I'm enjoying learning all about this. I love to be able to make my own hand spun yarn. It's so much fun and it's so relaxing. I just started some weeks ago and soon I have about 200 grams fingering yarn made of Gotland sheep fibre. This podcast has been a joy to watch today while I’m combing some Border Leicester wool. I’m recovering from a complex total hip replacement, I’m not taking any high powered meds so the pain can be exhausting. This podcast has kept me engaged today, and I have not slept the day away. I learned new things, and now my interest in Icelandic wool is peaked!
