The ICM518 is a UL Listed Type 1&2 Whole Home Surge Protective Device for 240 VAC Split Phase configuration. When a surge occurs, the ICM518 will absorb the surge up to 100,000kA.
*This video demonstrates the ICM518 being installed as a type 2 SPD, protecting only one breaker. A type 1 installation would be installed with the mains of the panel and preformed by a licensed electrician.
The ICM518 incorporates thermal protection on the surge elements (TMOV’s) which allows for safe disabling of the surge protector when a surge exceeds the thermal limits of the device. A status light on the ICM518 identifies proper operational status when illuminated. The ICM518 can be installed as a Type 1 or Type 2 device for both indoor and outdoor applications.

At least the freezer is now protected. NOT the entire house. He put it on the load side of the freezer breaker LOL. And wire runs were mega long. Every 2" of wire leads off the SPD box = 20-25VAC higher clamping voltage. Or when the suppressor starts to work and dump power to neutral/ground. So an extra 10" of wire leads - an extra 200+ VAC that black box starts to work. Mount as close to the neutral/ground bar as possible.

If the existing breakers aren't designed for two wires per lug, should I use a dedicated 2-pole breaker?

I assume this will protect the feed to a sub panel, or do you need another one on a subpanel?

The ICM518 can be installed by a licensed Electrician with the mains (Type 1 install) at the main panel for a true Whole-Home coverage or at a sub panel for full panel coverage. In this particular installation a particular piece of equipment was being protected via a breaker (Type 2 install).

This is a type 2 SPD install, not entire house (SPD1). He mentions this down in the comments. Change the video title please.

Jim you are correct, this is definitely a type 2 install. We are in need of a willing certified Electrician/application do to a whole-home install video. In the meantime, we wanted to get a video out there showing the ICM518 SPD that is capable of type 1 or type 2 installs. Not trying to promote this video as a whole-home install, just that the product is a whole-home SPD. This video will be removed when we get a whole-home install video shot!
