I’ve got the Icon set, use it professionally. Not every day, but often enough. They’re a dang good set for the money. Never failed me, and never left me wishing I had something from another company at a higher price. If I used them every day maybe. But until then I’m good.

Thanks for doing this review! Been waiting for it since I wanted to pick these up before the coupon expires at the end of the month. Really appreciate the honesty and the demonstration. Based on how these grip, I may end up picking them up despite the flaws you identified. Get some rest and looking forward to the next video!

Thanks, good to see you back making videos. I have the Channelock snap ring pliers. I don't use them that often, it's one of those tools that you need to keep around for those times you need them. For the price HF is charging for the ICON brand, they should use better quality control.

here is my issue, I looked at those ICON snap ring pliers when they first came out they were $59 ( I don't know how much they cost now) . . . but you can get the Knipex set for $72. why not spend the extra $13 and get the Knipex that I know will be superb quality. (true that the Knipex set only has 5 pairs whereas the Icon set gives you 8 pairs, but I still feel like the Knipex set is the better product in the long run
@Brees1986

I’ve looked and all I can find is a 4 piece set for that price.
@anoldfriend3901
@anoldfriend3901 3 года назад
Because with the icon you can simply go into harbor freight and get a replacement if they break, vs having to send them out to knipex and waiting weeks to get a replacement. Or maybe even waiting weeks to find out that they declined your warranty replacement for some reason. Knipex are nice, I own many knipex tools, but in this case the harbor freight stuff makes more sense.

It's totally okay if you skip a week or two (or even a month) without a video, nothing wrong with that at all. You have my upmost respect because I work full time too (sometimes going 2 and 3 weeks at a time without a day off), that is why I make so few videos. . . . . . and it seems like when I am off work there is a million things that needs to be done (for some reason I believe you can relate to that). You're a class act, keep up the good work.

Glad to see you're alright! I'd been wondering about this set for a bit, wondering why they've been out so long, but it seems to me you're still the first one to review them. I had been considering the Quinn reversible pair for some around the house stuff, but now that I know the Channel Lock pair is about the same price, I think I'll go with that. :P

I picked these up in November with the 20% off, making them about $47 (if I recall correctly). I don’t like the changeable tip pliers, and I prefer fixed to the convertible ones. I like that they come in a decent case to keep stored, have angled tips to grip better, and are priced decent compared to others like them (such as truck brands). They also have the lifetime warranty, which I found a lot of pliers didn’t seem to have that i was looking at. Overall, I’m happy with the purchase. I do agree they’re for professionals and wouldn’t benefit most DIYers, but I think they are worth it if you don’t want the convertible (Lang).

I would like to add on these pliers I’ve had a set since shortly after they hit the shelf. The set I bought had one in which the bottom of one grip didn’t get dipped but HF swapped it out. I use snap ring pliers a few times per week in my job because we work with a lot of bearings, cylinders and different shafts that use them. Mine have held up great so far but I have ran into a couple of snap rings that the tips would not fit into. In these scenarios my partner at work has a set of Lang’s and that is where the more complete set will really help you out. I got them for $40 and at that price I believe they are hard to beat. IMO there’s no way I’d pay full retail at $60 when you can get the Lang’s for $75 or so. All and all I would buy them again. On some of the larger snap rings these feel a little more comfortable in “MY” hand when it takes some pressure to expand or compress them. They are really similar to the Astro pneumatic sets. Great Review as always thanks!

Keep in mind, the Lang 12 piece set are all reversible so, you’re effectively getting 24 snap ring pliers. I’ve had the set for about a year and have zero complaints.

Lang is more than likely the set rebranded by Matco as for the Icon I say any tool that works within someone's budget if the Icon do the job and are lifetime warranted I'd buy them if I needed a set like that although I'd probably still go for the Lang set just because they offer more styles of snap ring pliers however I agree the average person probably doesn't have a need for a full set and can probably get by with just the Channel Lock pair awesome video brotha and it's great to have you back those imperfections are common in Made in China products whereas Made in Taiwan usually has better quality control always value your opinion brotha I smashed the like button to show you my appreciation keep doing what you do and keep the cameras rollin

I looked-up these pliers because I got a set myself and could not do anything with them... Have them in my trunk for return first thing tomorrow and I wanted to see if other people find them as useless as I did. Those rings on your table are probably found in a locomotive or in heavy machinery... They should have mentioned on the box: "For oversized items"... Good luck to attempt to replace a ratcheting head on a Milwaukee power ratchet!

Hello again Little Brother Great Video as always. I agree with your assessment. Harbor Freight tools does not always match compatibility to quality. I have their version of a Snap ring pliers. Complete junk!!! So you get what you pay for! At the same time, I have some their tools that I use on the job, and they work great. And I, did not have to pay a lot for them. The point being due your diligence on what your buying. Thank you again for the Great Video.

Buy the most complete set you can afford. If it's between one or two premium pliers or a complete set of cheap ones, get the cheap set. Nothing's worse than not being able to remove a snap ring because you don't have the right pliers. You can guarantee running into a snap ring that's going to be internal instead of external or vice versa, wrong pin size, or at a different clearance angle.

I dig your pull no punches straight forward review on these. I've been on the fence about getting these. After hearing your opinion, which I trust, I will have to pass on these. The Lang's seem like the way to go. I have the Channelock ones, and you are spot on with them. I also have the Quinns. The switch can act a little wonky sometimes but they work, but the Channelocks are a little better. I'm really looking forward to more of your icon tool reviews. This fool didn't like the case they came in. I bet if it had snap on name on it he wouldn't have said shyt because it's made in the USA. ***TwiZ*** well my problem is that Brian isn’t a mechanic and probably doesn’t even have a “tool truck” come by his work. His experience as a mechanic seems limited in my opinion
@twiz8789
@twiz8789 4 года назад
@@toddosterhout9866 Mechanic Profession A mechanic is a tradesman, craftsman or technician who uses tools to build or repair machinery. The things he does at his job, from what I gather, works on industrial machinery, welding and fabrication, and works on his and others (at times) vehicles, among other things, I feel this puts him in the true meaning, or definition of, a mechanic. It seems to me that he falls into the category of "mechanic". Works on and can repair, at a level that isnt a DIYer .He makes money being a "mechanic" I too, make a living being a mechanic. If it is a piece of machinery, a mechanic can repair it, and get paid at the level of a professional. A auto mechanic is that, a auto mechanic, and gets paid as a pro, but doesn't work on other machinery at a professional level. Thats what they do, automotive. There is a difference, in my opinion. Either way, each one would have a knowledge of what would be a good or bad tool to use at the level of a professional, to be used reliably, on a daily basis. I feel he comes with enough credibility that I personally would trust his opinion on tools. Im not sure if you are strictly an auto mechanic or not, but if you are, (would that mean your experience as a mechanic is limited??) I'm sure you would have an opinion on tools, wether they are good or bad, and I would consider your opinion as well. If you are making a living with them, why wouldn't a fellas opinion help you decide on making a tool purchase or not?. Just because a tool truck doesn't stop by doesn't automatically mean you're not a mechanic, or somehow are excluded or limited in experience, in my opinion.

I worked alongside the MM's that were in "A" gang and the BT's as well so I'm very familiar with the engineering department. I never got the impression once that he was any type of Auto Tech, never. But everybody sees things a different way so you're entitled to your opinion and I'm entitled to mine. I just don't understand if it bothers you that much why are you even on his channel watching videos...just sayin

Change the title to Icon snap ring CRITIC, and for God sake, stick to a script. Most of the video was you just talking and no reviewing.

You talked way too much and didn't even get to the core reason of the video until almost 4 minutes. Waste of time

Bad video Too much talk in vain. Narration doesn't help neither.
