When i see Ian dancing its like he is the first guy dancing by himself that eventually gets everyone else at the festival to dance with him. Except the festival is the world
Natalie is the spit image of her father Ian, but a very private person who doesn't like to talk about family life. She came to know her dad through Band photos film from show "Something Else" sing and dancing to "Transmission" and "She's Lost Control" and the like some of his performances at gigs and his onlyBand music video "Love Will Tear Us Apart". The movie control was hard for Natalie to was during production Actor playing her dad and an actress playing her more and the depictation of her family on screen. Natalie highly protects her dad's name and his personal life. She didn't feel the film gave a complete understanding of her father's illness of depression and truly all the underlying effects from all the medication. Natalie said she's not angry for her father taking his life she knows he was very sick and loves his music and the bands and is a fan of Joy Division. I truly Believe Natalie loves the man behind the voice of those lyrics and words and story be hind it all. I know she holds a special place in her heart for her Fatherand I know she is proud of his achievments. Ian Curtis lives through his music and those peoples hearts he touched. Ian's voice, lyrics, guitar playing with the contribution with band and his poems are timeless. San Riley played a good Ian Curtis but know one could truly act as Ian Curtis. He was unique and a quote from Tony Wilson's wife Lindsey Reade from Documentary "Under Review" Ian Curtis was a special person, a very special person. Ian Kevin Curtis a name worthy of being remembered.
100%. Control was great for us JD fans and for making JD more well known. The medication and his depression though, you can feel it in his lyrics. I just hope his family realizes how much JD and Ian's music has inspired so many musicians. A great storyteller of the human experience.
Thank you. It is apparent that you are close to the principal players and personalities. From way off in the land of Hollywood I was enraptured by JD from the moment I first heard them at 17 years old in ‘79. Thank you for sharing
😢Ian’s lyrics, his vocals and the band’s music helped transform my life. We were the same age, and I was feeling so much of what he expressed. Deep down, I feared that he might die, and when it happened, I was heartbroken. I felt guilty for letting him die. As the saying goes, ‘There, but for the grace of God, go I’… I never met him, but he still means so much to me.
His black and white 79 desolate bridge images of Joy Division and his paint covered Stone Roses in 89 perfectly encapsulate the vibe of Manchester a decade apart and the music of each of those bands. Cummins is an artist.
I was a teen when Joy Division was together. I loved Ian Curtis. But then I was a young adult in the mid 80s, and clubbing was the thing. Dance your butt off! So of course I heard tons of New Order and I loved them too. I eventually saw them in Milwaukee, WI around 1990.Not positive on the exact year now because I was busy graduating college and getting married.
I discovered Joy Division really late. I’ve always been a music lover and heard of them but to sit and actually listening to them was two years ago. I had no idea New Order and Joy Division were even related. I was jamming to New Order back in the 80s and 90s. Disorder by far is my favorite all time song. I listen to it everyday as it’s my alarm to wake up to this crazy life.
Very moving. For a California kid raised under a summer sun, Joy Division tapped into that part of my teenage soul that was dark, intense, and searching. Cheers to the film makers. Well captured. I think Ian would be proud.
Just watched this .. i live about 30 mins away fom Macclesfield where Ian lived and also where his memorial stone in Macc cemetry is ..but have never been to pay my respects .. i was probably too young at the time to appreciate Joy Division .. it`s only now i kinda get it ... think i`ll have a run out to Macclesfield sometime this week ...
I have seen so many Joy Division documentaries and this is the first time ever seeing his daughter (not that she has anything to do with JD, I thought it was nice to see his offspring.), after all aren't they all about Ian anyway ( that is until New Order is mentioned.),that just made this one stand out from the other films, What a Great band they were, I still listen to them every day and those 2 recordings never get old, just as great now as then.
@@Vesnicie Met him in a pub in Macclesfield a few years ago, asked him if it was him and that I loved his music, he seemed reserved and didn't say too much, but refused to let me buy him a drink, I think he's just a private guy
...Well Ian...wherever you flippin' are.... ;( ...I just hope that you're able to see how lovely and beautiful your daughter grew up to be....and that you guys are reunited...I'll pray to whomever and whatever so that it happens..
I agree 100% It’s out there but hard to find cause the suits rather promote rap and pop crap. Fell free to check out my “alt music list”. I’m always on a search for good music.
JOY DIVISION/ WILL ALLWAY4S BE= love, and pain, but their music got me through nearly packing in,THANKS IAN CURTIS AND BAND ,meet you in another dimention xx
@@petercronin5345 I don’t agree. I respect him and the band for being strong enough to keep going after Ian died, even though they knew it would never be the same band again. That takes integrity more than ego, and Bernard has always appeared honest and true to himself.
Kevin was part of my youth also , I could always tell his photos and was a fan of his shots , captured so much of the time and something so raw about his eye . I was fixed on spotting his shots in nme and delighted with myelself when I got right Which was all the time because he was one of a kind .
What a wonderful film, being a huge admirer of JD this is the first time I've watched a film about the band and really enjoyed it. There are none of the usual egos getting in the way of an honest documentary that spoils so many features about JD. Thank you for posting this film on RU-vid.
The rest of the band look slightly bewildered and embarrassed heads down looking down at their shoes..while Ian's doing his thing in total belief ..in his element
A nice little video of my favourite band, the photos just seem to be iconic of the band at that time, great music and great lyrics, ian was a fantastic poet
I was working in germany and a mate came over to visit he brought a album called unknown pleasures being honest i had never heard of them we spent hours listening to it one fellow manc who knew them as warsaw couldnt believe how different they sounded the german lads loved it one must have made about a hundred copies from vinyl to cassette
At 13:04 I oddly found myself thinking, "man they sound like Interpol." It's still funny to me today that Interpol disliked the early comparisons to Joy Division.
That's the great thing about film. You are forced to work with what you have. You don't have endless amounts of space to basically make a film blindfolded & then go back to your computer & pick something you got accidentally. You know what you are getting -- what you are making -- when you look through the viewfinder. One of the worst aspects of digital, the number of Stevie Wonder photographers there are out there. Fucking waste of energy.
There's NO FUCKING WAY he was seriously dancing like that. What do you Brit's call that? Taking the piss, lol. He always struck me that way. Almost fucking with people. With the preconceived notions of who he was, and what his role to play was. Could be totally wrong, probably am, but he never struck me as 100% deadpan serious. Then again I'm just a yank who wasn't even 10 years old when he died. Also, New Order sucked. Pretty bad. Really bad, really. I mean, they had that one song, but that was IT.
