I have a friend who’s daughter was murdered. The police located a suspect, but did not share the info to my friend. This was to ensure that their investigation was not jeopardized. They charged the man who shot her daughter and he is now in jail. I pray for the families and hope they find the murderer.
My sister was murdered and they had a person of interest/suspect right out the gate but wouldn’t share with our family. Eleven months later, he was finally arrested and it was a close family friend of ours who was my dads best friend since college. We were outraged at the police because in those eleven months, he was around us and comforting us, even coming to our Thanksgiving and Christmas. He took my dad and uncle on a fishing trip to take their minds of things. We all felt like goddamn fools after that and to this day curse the detectives who let us prance around almost a year like morons. All the while, they immediately suspected him and refused to mention a thing while they “built their case”. They were able to quietly serve a warrant for his house and technology devices and we had no idea. He was able to keep that a secret also and hide his stress, he acted totally normal and like a good friend. This came from messages on her phone to a fake profile he was running. They found plenty of evidence from his laptop and cell phone, as well as her phone, in the first three weeks and didn’t charge him or tell us. In some situations, I understand. But the cops knew he was a suspect and let him sit in on interviews with us where he was the “comforting friend, like an uncle.” The cops played us for goddamn fools. I’ll never get over that.

sorry to hear about your Friend's daughter and glad that in her situation the tactic of keeping the family out of the loop worked but your friend is the minority who has had this experience , Too many people or murderers gets away because the cops do this . Atleast give the information to the families they do not need to make it public. this case for example it is clear the parents of the kids have nothing to do with this but give the people some peace of mind by telling them what is going on. it is not fair to the parents of those kids to be left in the dark like they are being. that is when people start making their own theories up and takes the law in their own hands due to frustration and anger , then that innocent person who just wanted answers or updates regarding their kids brutal murder end up in prison!! so no I feel your friend bless her was just a small percent that had a positive result
There is no way that supposedly no one knows anything. Someone has to know something. I hope someone comes forward.. this is just evil. Whoever did this probably won't come forward but Whoever knows should how can that person(s) live with themselves. These poor kids and their families need justice. This is completely heartbreaking 💔.
Hard to believe the other two roomates in the house didnt hear any sound of a massacre going on upstairs ,in the middle of the night when I'm guessing it was pretty quite. Did nobody yell or scream ?
@@honeya3183 she called him before going to sleep, they were killed in there sleep. So would be just a drunk girl calling an ex. The roommates however called 2 friends before calling 911. And when calling 911 called it in as there friend just passed out and is unresponsive. Not a murder. Unless they left the lights off idk why they don't see blood tho
There was a case a few years ago in the US where a mother and daughter were attacked with machetes while they were sleeping. The mother died, daughter miraculously survived. Someone broke into their home (while dad was on business) and came into their bedroom and started hacking away at them. There were immediately concerns of the father being responsible. Because again: there has to be a motive. In the end, turned out that a group of teens were responsible and that they picked the house randomly. They didn't know the victims. They told police that they wanted to find out how it felt to murder someone.
@@RealLifeLiz Yes, I can think of a quite a few home invasion mass murders that were random. A case where three women and girls of a family were murdered. Only the father survived, pushing some to suspect him of being involved. Turned out that the killers were two petty thugs who by chance came across the mother of the household while she was out shopping. They followed her back home and then came back later that night to do their horrific crime. They didn't know each other at all. If the killers hadn't been caught, a lot of people would still be suspecting the father. It's very hard to believe crimes like these can happen at random. Another infamous case is one from Japan, where an entire family of 4 were stabbed to death by a night time intruder. The killer has never been caught, but the circumstance of crime suggests that the killing was entirely random (the killer lingered around the home hours after the murder, eating the victims' food and showing in their bathroom). Personally, I just can't imagine that there is a motive that would make sense for us. If there is something like a motive, there might as well not be one. I'm thinking of an unstable person who was slighted (or bullied) by the girls. Something like that. The amount of violence and the peculiarities of the case makes me believe that a motive will be very hard to find.
Even Ted bundy which this reminds me of was random. Ted Bundy saw a girl at the bar and followed her and ended up murdering almost everyone in a sorority house.
Kaylee could have received more significant injuries due to maybe fighting back. Unless they slept with a night light, or with the lights on, it would probably have been difficult to differentiate between Kaylee and Madison on the same floor. Kaylee and Madison were found on the same bed. If the attacker started hacking and slashing at one girl, the other would have woken up immediately and taken a more defensive stance.
dealing with two targets especially who r asleep if u know what u’re doin, first victim u attack in such a way that they’re not cappable of fighting back (cut throat) the victim will make noises, but cant fight back, the other victim wakes up just in time to b stabbed but can put up a fight that will account for defensive wounds.. i’ve seen some information out there ( dont know how accurate) that Kaylee was decapitated, wchich could have been done after 2nd victim was killed, if she indeed was the one who was targeted, and the info is accurate… i’m a combat vet so not sayin i’m sn expert but i have been trained in a certain way and i’ve seen all sorts of “action” down range.. from the info thats out there it just makes sense,

It is a tragedy beyond belief. I know the school well and can tell you no one would ever have expected this to happen. That I know is a statement used way too often but it really is an unbelievable and senseless tragedy. This is still a parents worst nightmare. When we finally think our children have made it and are going to start such wonderful lives and something like this happens. I absolutely can not imagine what the parents are going through other then some of what they said. My mind would be so messed up. I truly feel for these families and hope they eventually get justice.

Yes, the whole family. I just recently lost my little sister (22). Not in this brutal of a manner, but I relate to the pure emptiness and pain I see in the big sisters face. And the complete devastation and shock in the mothers voice sounds just like my mom. My heart completely shatters for all of them. No one should have to bury their child.

Kaylee’s parents stated it wasn’t unusual for kaylee to call her ex that much when it was regarding her dog. Considering that the dog wasn’t anywhere near her at the time of the murder, and was apparently found confined in another room- makes me think she was calling him to see if he knew where her dog was. This also makes me think the killer knew to confine the dog in another room

@@Janellabelle I commented this BEFORE Bryan was arrested / BEFORE information was released that the dog was in Kaylee’s bedroom. More info has now made it apparent that Kaylee knew where her dog was. However, 4 weeks ago when I made this comment, it was not clear where the dog was in the house/ if the dog was placed in the house after the murders took place. Try not to get all frazzled before checking the date of an actual comment.
This family needs to understand that it is an open investigation and if all the information they want is public, the killer would know that information too. It’s sad but just stop.

I would think that's more obvious of a scenario then her being targeted. Her friend was stabbed in her sleep first. She woke up to the noise tried to defend herself maybe even hitting the attacker making him more angry or just the fact she was moving and the attacker had to do more. I really think that's what happened.

I'm leaning towards the ex boyfriend of Kaylee because her wounds are said to be very significantly more than any other. From what I've heard and seen she was the target and it was brutal like in revenge? jilted lover? and the perpetrator I believe targeted Kaylee like a jilted lover. The other 3 were collateral damage I believe he had murder Maddie because she was in the same room then I believe as he was leaving going back down to the second floor to go out the back door Ethan heard something and came out open the door seen him and could ID him so he had to kill them too. That's my theory until I see different. There was a video from the candle light vigil where Jack comes out as the family was finishing their speech Kayle's mother goes around the father to greet Jack and as he is hugging the mother he looks the father dead in the eye and the father gave him a cold stare and walked away. That's very telling. Plus the dog was not killed or hurt and that tells me the dog didn't bark ? because the dog new the killer? which I think is something to consider.
I am with you mostly on this, I do wonder, you know, alcohol can make one a very sound sleeper, I also wonder if any jealousy was involved just with the fact that the two girls were in bed together.
My heart breaks for the families. The moms having their children who they appear to have raised with so much love, care and protection, snuffed out when they leave home and go into the world to live their lives… Their pain is one of the saddest things I’ve ever seen.
When I was in college, I locked myself out of my 2nd floor apartment. My neighbor climbed partially up the stairs, climbed onto the balcony from the stairs, and had my LOCKED sliding glass door open in seconds. From then on I always use a piece a wood to keep the door from sliding open…even when I’m on vacation.
Yeah, my grandmother always used a broomstick that had the broom part sawed off. Worked. Somebody actually did try to get into her house once and couldn't because of that.
It is extremely troubling that there is an individual out there so disturbed that they would commit such a horrible crime. Until the police name, and/or arrest a suspect, people should lay off the neighbor. You may be guilty of slandering or accusing an innocent person. That home should never be rented out again, it is a place where an extremely evil act took place, and in my opinion, no person in their right mind would want to live there. After all evidence is collected, it should be burned to the ground or something. Pray for the families and justice for the victims.

I think its important to note that the locks were changed? as the mom noted; could it be someone from one of the girls workplace that got access to her keys, since it appears there was no forced entry. A disgruntled coworker could have a very strong motive. Very sobering to see that blood drain from the floor, must have been brutal. My heart goes out to everyone affected by this case. The bloodstains seeping from the wall and floor is from the room of Zanna and her boyfriend Ethan. It must have been a blood bath, never have u seen actual blood going through the walls and concrete in a fresh homicide.

Personally, I feel this was a targeted attack and planned out. Apparently jack showalter, the guy was the seen from the food truck camera fled the country. If you look at the footage again, it looks like the girl was pretending to take a selfie with him in the background. She was into crime and murder documentaries, so she knew what to do if she felt her life was in danger. You can see in the video he was trying to hide his face. And there’s pictures of him hunting too… with a hunting knife… Students said he has a reputation to being weird and having anger issues. So… 👀👀👀
If they don't share someone's alibi, might mean they have not actually cleared it and looking further into it. They absolutely check people's alibis multiple times to look at inconsistency in them. So don't lose hope on the police just yet, please. I can't even begin to imagine what the families are going thru and would absolutely be demanding all the info and details as they come if it were me. Don't lose hope over info. It's always changing

Excellent segment regarding this tragic event. Retired from LE-related work, I have lots of thoughts as we all do but am hopeful that the professionals on this extremely horrific case will piece together this puzzling event. Let's hope that no stone is left unturned.
I feel horrible for these victims and their families I also feel horrible for that homeowner. I'm sure they rent that home as extra income and it's going to be difficult for them to rent it in the future. Not to mention as that home is held up in an investigation that homeowner still has to make mortgage payments if they have a mortgage. Whoever did this is absolutely disgusting.
@@Chowe795 Maybe so..but the homeowner may still have a monthly mortgage payment. They also have property taxes, and continued utility payments. It's a big house. It can't remain totally unheated throughout a long, cold Idaho winter. So, this homeowner stands to lose a lot of money. The house may also be very difficult to sell now.

@@janetritchie7499 exactly they may have gotten the money for the semester but we don't know college kids could have been paying monthly. If they have a mortgage sadly but mortgage company it's still going to expect the money plus they are still responsible for property taxes. Not to mention all the lights have been on in that house for three straight weeks.
I know its probably unfathomably hard and frustrating with the investigation, but there is a HUGE REASON why authorities DO NOT release very much information ESPECIALLY when the killer is still on the loose...
I heard differently about the original 911 call. The unconscious body was the roommate who fainted outside and a passerby said unconscious person. The other roommate was hysterical .
I read the same story a few days after this crime occured...The story sounded pretty legit the way it was written but it's unknown if it is in fact what actually happened

I definitely understand where you’re coming from. I also think if he acted like he wasn’t in the least bit fearful it would just be so obvious he’s lying, it still wouldn’t be very comforting. Just my opinion. I have zero idea what the “right” way to handle this would be. It’s so sad.
I totally agree with and understand what you are saying. But we really need to recognize, understand and endure the times and the social atmosphere or environment we all are currently living in (which is one of childish Wokeness which has a grip on the world at-large in varying degrees) and just bide the time that the said atmosphere or environment is here (present) at this time and say to ourselves at least quietly "this too shall pass, this too shall pass" and it will eventually pass but not because of any magic or incantations or anything else like that but rather that this trying time will either naturally fade away or it will finally be forced away and actual sanity will return to the human race/species. We just have to remain vigilant and be patient. Anyway as I understand it, one of the tenets of Wokeism states something like "in order to lead effectively, you need to be just like your followers. So, for example, if your followers are weak and scared then you, their leader, need to be weak and scared too to effectively lead them (weak ->😩 Scared ->😨) but don't be strong." It's something like. And it seems like that.that 60yo dean was and is spreading the Wokeists' ideology and agenda, the former being what the Wokeists believe, push, thrust upon society as a whole, etc. as to what they actually believe in and do; and the latter being what is pushed, et. al. through the social sphere, work sphere, political and government sphere/s, sports and our extremely broad, worldwide entertainment industry and related sub industries for example, but not specifically limited to arts, parks, zoos, music, dance, etc. , etc., etc. Even the sports or sporting industry (shout out to whomever deserves it). This has some markings of a Michael Myers copycat. The neighbor who said he saw the downstairs door open is a peice of information the police should focus on. Who opened that door ? The wood line in the back of the house appears to have multiple vantage points into the upper floors. Good chance the killer or killers observed the house from that wooded area. Also, why would the killer or killers not bother going after the people who lived on the first floor ? Imo it is because they probably know one or more of the people who live downstairs possibly. Or Maybe the killer or killers observed the people that live upstairs(from the wood line) and knew the layout better than the downstairs. Hopefully someone comes forward and shares information so these families can get some closure. God bless 🙏
These poor neighbors and family that want to help by taking multiple interviews with media is a mistake. They have demonstrated exactly why authorities don’t share too many details.

The killer did not leave that house without cutting themselves, without leaving bloody shoe impressions, bloody prints, etc. I can't wait until they release some evidence. I don't believe this is random though.

No I graduated university with a degree in criminology and criminal psychology. Hence In my educated opinion. This crime was NOT rage filled, frenzied or sloppy!. Clearly shows again coumo has no idea what he’s on about just like 99% of the so called “expert” guests they have on!. Someone who is angry,high on emotion would not be able to do competent reconnaissance and surveillance on the house (within one evening) maybe if they watched the house before the crime then okay that’s a valid argument. But no someone who is angry and pumped up on adrenaline and stress would not be able to infiltrate the home without anyone seeing, disturbing any neighbourhood dogs, make entry into the house without force or even leaving signs of where they made entry, then get through the house without waking anyone, disturbing the dog in the property, kill four out of the six in the property without waking the two survivors, escape without leaving any finger prints, DNA, Footprints or digital DNA, without any witnesses in the local area, no CCTV.. nothing. I’m sorry but that to me does not fit the profile of some angry incel or someone who was rejected at a bar or a stalker!. The killer or killers in my experience were highly skilled, motivated, efficient and highly trained in all aspects of reconnaissance, infiltration, exfiltration and killing calmly and without emotion!. Therefore I believe this was a highly sophisticated serial killer or a contract killer/killers I.e hitmen/man. This attack was carried out like a special forces raid!. You have to be highly highly competent and trained in all aspects of assaulting a property and killing efficiently, calmly and without emotion to be able achieve what the killer/killers have done in this case!. Stop pushing this narrative of some angry beast man who lost his temper and went on a rampage… if that is the case it makes the law enforcement agencies involved the worse and most incompetent in the world!.
It's never who you want to think. My mom was murdered. Her boyfriend did it, hard to believe. I liked him alot. He had never been in trouble , had his own business. No… Here’s what you’re missing… Ethan and Xana were in the room at BACK of house, the bedroom door can be seen from the back glass doors at bottom of stairs. This makes sense because if one of them woke up to see who was coming down stairs the perpetrator would have run straight into them. They may have ended up collateral damage.
This is what i think. The targets were the two girls. The boyfriend and gf were just innthe way. They need to look into the person who took them home that night. They said they toon am uber home.

You absolutely cannot see EITHER of the 2nd floor bedroom doors from the 1st floor front door to the house. If you are refering to the back door slider in the kitchen, that is nowhere near Xana's bedroom. You'd have to walk through the kitchen make a left and step down into the living room through there make another left and go down the hall past the bathroom to Xana's bedroom.
All these ridiculous assumptions from this reporter, actually everyone's assumptions... I think talking and speculating about 4 young people brutally murdered was more exciting than the deep sympathy itself. Everyone wants to be in You Tube, Tik tok, Facebook, etc to contribute to something that is totally useless. Media and people desperately crave for this. Everyone WANTS to be seen. How authentic is the actual sympathy
With all the stupid and irresponsible rumors and speculation, this case may take even longer for police to solve it. The amount of crime scene evidence is massive, and the forensic labs are probably overwhelmed and under tremendous stress. None of that makes solving this case quickly an easy thing to do.
Brian, you are my favorite reporter because you stick to the facts and handle the cases you cover with so much care and respect for the victims’ families. I really hope that these four college students receive the justice that they deserve and that their families and loved ones receive the answers and closure that they are so desperately seeking. My thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of these four college students that had their lives so brutally taken from them far too soon.

It was cleared because they knew it was a target by a hitman. Xana and Maddie were targets. Kahlee and Ethan were collateral damage. Xana and Maddie s moms did naughty drug things and this was a message to them.
If it was a large knife and wouldn’t be considered “puncture wounds”, but actual tearing and cutting through of the flesh, I would imagine as the OBVIOUS that you wouldn’t be quite covering your mouth while that’s happening. Screaming and pleading and banging from trying to fight off and move away would be occurring. So HOW IN THE HELL did those other two girls NOT HEAR A PEEP???

Oh don't be fooled investigators have way more details then we think, much which will not be disclosed. It's 2022 and we are in a world of advanced technology and forensics. Investigators will clear people intentionally,it doesn't necessarily mean they aren't of interest anymore.
If people listened to this story they would have heard that the girls were in Maddies room. Kaylee was only going there to show Maddie her new car and wasn't supposed to be there. Perhaps the killer like was reported, didn't see who he stabbed first because it was very dark and the girls both had long blonde hair. After realizing that another person was sleeping in the bed felt the need to kill that person as well. The killer may have thought that Kaylee was Maddie and that is why she got the brunt of the attack. Just speculating. The whole thing is so sad.

Does Banefield not get it...the killer didn't START at the 2nd floor, clearly Kaylee or Maddie were the target & they went right to the 3rd floor killed them both & then probably encountered Ethan & Xena on the way out & killed them too, someone said Ethan was not found in bed, but in the hallway.

One thing that is bugging me is the fact the surviving roommates thought someone was unconscious even though now they had been stabbed, there must of been evidence of blood etc and did they actually see the person or was it through a door they couldn’t get access too? Because if they did actually see the person then I’m sorry but you’d be able to tell if they were breathing or not
This is speculation as well why Kaylee had more brutal wounds. She may have been attacked after her friend and she is a bigger maybe stronger, tougher in fighting for her life. It does not necessarily mean she was the target. I find it amazing the roommates who were not attacked, heard nothing! They phoned police about an unresponsive roommate. They didn’t notice massive amounts of blood and stab wounds?! Strange to me!
The two survivors were on the lowest level which was better insulated from sounds throughout the rest of the house. One of the survivors discovered Ethan dead, ran outside in shock and collapsed. She was the “unconscious” person the 911 call was about.

My question is who called friends over to the house before calling the 911. When they did decide to call the 911 they was unconscious was it the same person? because they seem to be fine when calling the friends over before calling the 911.
The surviving roommates couldnt reach the victims via yelling through the door, thought they passed out, not sure what to do, they first called friends then 911. The doors were locked. It's not that complicated.
Could have seen keys, purses, cars etc. but not responding to calls/texts or roommates knocking on doors. Probably called frat people to help them open door. Calling 911, dispatch could have said OPEN door. Break it, etc.. RM saw blood, body but in shock screaming, ran outside and passed out so others talked to dispatch due to RM being unconscious. Not realizing what she saw..

And the day of the killing one roommate was awaken by the sound of the dog.. then again by “what seemed to be crying” and didn’t feel inclined to want to check on their friend…? Just seems a little strange. Then proceeded to contact authorities HOURS later even though they also heard “don’t worry I’m going to help you”, opened their bedroom door a third time to see a masked man they’d never seen before… I mean I totally understand to be in a state a shock and freezing up… but to go back to sleep?? Also… they’re all roommates and according to reports they were really close. One of the victims murdered recently had their father replace a lock at the apartment. It’s unclear if it was the apartments lock or that victims room lock.. regardless that would mean only someone INSIDE the apartment knew how to gain access. 🤨
3 a.m. stabbing of an elder woman, while asleep, on the 13th of June, 2020, in Washougal, WA.. 3 a.m. stabbing of a sleeping couple (male/female) in Marion County, OR.. Husband died; wife survived after 19 knife wounds. August 13th, 2021. These three crimes (including the four students in Moscow) are less than 8 hours away from each other. Kaylee's sister seems to be so strong for her family. I don't think I've seen her cry once in the many interviews she's done. I'm sure she's devastated and is dealing with the trauma in her own way. She probably hasn't even processed it fully yet, and is staying focused on catching the murderer, then once that's done, she'll allow herself to grieve. So sad.
She’s a sister on a mission, they are probably very angry. Like you hurt my baby sister now I’m gonna kill you!! Some people may go through the anger process before they break down and cry. Maybe they are a hardworking tough family. They seemed very tightly knit.

She was the one that helped found the footage of her sister being at the food truck that night. It's not odd. She's focused and staying strong her parents on air. Sounds like she went straight to work on helping to figure out as much as she could. She will probably grieve more once time goes on. Right now she seems to be in fight mode
I don’t cry in front of people, I barely cry in front of my husband. In times of trauma or tragedy I go into manager mode. My brother says I would have made a good ER nurse. I compartmentalize, I cry in the shower when I’m alone, probably not healthy, but it’s the only way I know how to function.

How did someone kill 4 people in the same house with a knife and no one heared a thing? Someone skilled and trained with a knife or they were all so hammered and passed out? Just really scary to think about how brutal it was and how easily someone can be killed.
i haven't been able to get this incident out of my mind. i hope everything comes out to light soon so that the victims' families can have some peace of mind. can't imagine what the community of moscow are feeling. may they rest in peace and justice be served🙏🏼
Brian …what an awesome reporting. It gave us an inkling on this horrific tragedy which has to be solved. The background of these four and their family is so heart wrenching. So scary to think one individual could have so much anger in them to do this to four young people who had everything going for them.

i scrolled soooo hard to find a comment that would agree with me. even when the father talks about someone’s strategic motives she starts to sort of interrupt and cut him off like she’s anxious and jittery from what he’s saying but she’s reassuring and repeating loosely to make herself seem less suspicious. but i don’t know everyone grieves differently i guess.

Kayleigh had complained of a stalker. Last night on Twitter someone reposted something from Instagram. It could just be an idiot messing around, but the police need to look into it. The person went by the name 'the Moscow slayer'. There was a picture of a knife just like the type that would have been used. He made a comment about the knife was missing or he lost it & he wanted to find it. But it was said in a sinister way. There was also other information that was posted. This person was also following the girls on IG.
Oh my word (omw)! Have you communicated this directly to the Moscow PD, Idaho State Police, the FBI and/or any other investigating agency yet? If you have not, I strongly advise you to do so. I am fairly certain you can remain anonymous for doing so and that you can share a link with them if what you found. It might be nothing, it might be everything. You never really know until you try. In anywise, what you commented on is super creepy, eerie and scary. Please, please, please report it whether or not you feel comfortable doing so. I believe you will be greatly relieved if you did report it to one of the investigating agencies. It's up to you whether you do or not. I wish you well and will pray for you. I agree in some way. When you see some of the pics of the girls online, they represent themselves very flirtatious/easy. This shouldn't mean a thing to normal people, but also attracts the sick ones with bad intentions.
My husband committed suicide in 1989 and I remember everyone, family, friends, coworkers, everyone talking nonstop about it for a couple of months... When tragedy happens, you can't even think about much else or talk about much else.. Investigative instincts take over
I am so sorry for your loss and unfortunately it is human nature to talk about tragedy especially within certain cultures like America and what not where our culture is pretty boring, very systemic everyone is kept at "arms reach", so to speak... So while they will tell you that they are sorry for your loss to your face, they will talk about it to anyone and everyone behind your back while asking those people and each other "I wonder how she gets through it" ... While never asking you this? I'm so sorry... I KNW this has to be tough as I suffered loss and a similar Experience...
