I'm Chinese and my definition of breakfast is soy (sweet or salty) milk, fried dough (youtiao), Shaobing, dumpling of any kind or a bowl of noodle soup if northern Chinese. However, I can only speak for myself. We do eat congee for breakfast...too many variety to name. For us Chinese, our food have a lot to do by which region or province we are from. Our food differs tremendously.
No, dumplings vary everywhere as well, some doesn't even eat dumplings. Congee is definitely more canto... or more southern China. Japan themselves have their own rice porridge (okayu) but made from short grained rice. Don't forget that southern China has done more to export their culture across the world earlier on (North America for example) so other cultures picked up on them instead of the others. Happens with every culture.
Wow! That's a whole lot of preparation for breakfast - looks extremely delicious though. I can only muster a toast and a cup of tea in the morning. I hope that person who gets to eat afterwards does the washing up - she had no help at all.
As a Singapore Chinese , this Chinese style breakfast look amazing , but we don't usually put shrimp in congee, we like to put chicken , pork meat. The plating is so elegant and Japanese style , we just put every things on the big table and everyone just pick what they eat 😂, I like Japanese plating
