You are extremely fortunate. I have a 2021 Fish Pro. My first day on the water, I had the same thing happen to me that happened to you. I had to call a tow, which cost me $110. Just like in your case, it was the iDF which failed. The dealer "fixed" it, and I had it back and ready in 6 days. The second time I was out, about 20 minutes into the ride, the same thing happened again. I called for a second tow (cost: $75). Back to the dealer we go. By the way, my dealer is about 2 hours from where I live. The second time, the dealer wanted to replace the entire iDF unit. BRP wouldn't let them. Instead, BRP advised my dealer to replace the part again. After they repaired it, my dealer took the ski out on the water for about half an hour. It worked fine. All this took close to a month. So, I get my Fish Pro back. I go out for a third time. There was 1 hour on it when I launched the third time. This time, I stayed close to the boat ramp. At 1.4 hours, the iDF failed a third time. I had a collapsible paddle with me. I paddled the nearly 900 lb. hunk of junk to the ramp. My Fish Pro is now sitting in my garage. I have zero trust and zero confidence in this machine, or any other product from BRP, as a matter of fact. I've contacted my dealer and told them I no longer want it. My dealer is to contact me some time this coming week after they talk to BRP. I can't fault my dealer. They have been nothing but helpful about the whole thing, doing all they could to get the situation taken care of. Returning this jet ski will be no problem, as far as my dealership is concerned. In fact, the manager of the dealership has already told me not to drive the 2 hours to bring the ski back to them. He is going to come and get it.
Hi Kevin, sorry to read of this nightmare you are still going through. my apologies for the delay in replying, for some reason i can only view this message on my desktop. Now you say you can't fault your dealer, I am wondering if the Technician working on your machine is not aligning everything correctly? I find it strange that we both had a failure, the part replaced with a new exact same part and i have had no further issues but you continue to have an issue. I have read a lot about it being an alignment issue during the install.
@@NigelHay, well, supposedly, engine alignment has been checked both times, and the alignment was correct. I don't know what the problem is. I know I'm getting rid of this ski. I just can't trust it. And, my wife would NEVER go out on the water with me on this ski, even if it was to be fixed and working properly. Either it's going back and I get a refund, or, if BRP insists on something else being done, and they do manage to ever get the thing fixed, I still won't keep it. I'll sell it. I think I'll buy a boat...lol.
Wow that really sucks! I'm looing at new skis I had a 2013 130 se for a few years and never had any issues with it and currently have a 2017 S 260 GTX with no issues. Im looking at getting 2 new skis for next season Im thinking Im just going to skip the IDF. All my years of riding the only time ive ever gotten anything stuck that turning the engine off didnt fix was a stick. I got it out once i got home it didnt strand me I just couldnt go over 10mph without the thing shaking. Nice idea but until the prefect it ill pass.
** TWO BRAND NEW 2021 FISH PRO DRIVE FAILURES**. I just picked up two 2021 Fish Pro Jet Skis ordered in January. Put them in the Lake Huron to drive to our Lake House about 8 miles, we were taking it easy and going about 20-25 mile an hour. Lost the first one about 10 minutes in, Drive failure (IDF) and then on my way to get help/rope on the second unit, lost it back before I got back to the harbor. Same issue… total fail. Two units and both died on there first trip only 10-15 minutes in. 4 hours later… towing… what in the world Sea Doo????? #idf #seadoo
I got the exact same ski late last summer. I have another (a spark) on order for spring 2022 but could only find the one ski available in 2021. Not having a 2nd ski, I was afraid to take mine out for fear of getting stranded as mine also had the idf system and I didn't have anyone else to go out with. It was nice of Andrew to show you the ropes. I'm looking forward to trying out both my '21 GTX 170 and my '22 Spark Trixx this summer! Can't wait! (which is why I'm watching this video again) I sure hope I don't have any problems. I heard Sea Doo had the problem fixed for the models produced for the later part of 2021. Hope my ski is one of those.
Nigel, sometime life just throws you these annoying curves, as we all well know. Sorry to see you had this problem. I hope all turns out well and you are able to have many great hours out on the water this season. My GTX 230 should be delivered anytime now here in Rhode Island, with IDF. I'm a little more than concerned after hearing of your problems. Please do a follow up on this video. Hopefully with better news. Stay positive. Good luck to you!!!
Hi Donald, I've now added another 4 hours of riding since I got it back and have not run into any issues. I have full faith in the Tech at the Dealership that he knew how to install it correctly Enjoy yours when it arrives. Hopefully my issue is now over and done with
@@NigelHay Nigel, sorry to bother you again, but I'm curious if you tested the new IDF to see how it actually works? Hope the issue was resolved completely. Would love to see another video of you running your craft. In the first video before you broke down your joy, and enthusiasm for your first time on the water was fun to see. I imagine that will be me my first time out. Hope to see more of your adventures. Stay well.
@@donaldwest9103 hi Donald. I am loving my machine, growing confidence daily. Today I actually went out on my own first time, launched on my own too. I filmed my trip on the Welland River here in Niagara and will most likely post it tomorrow. It was a great scenic trip.
@@NigelHay I watched the video earlier. Great! I'll be a first time rider, so I'll experience all the same things you are (launching, towing, learning all the nuances of owning a PWC, etc...) Appreciate you sharing.
I was buying one, but u are not the first and I’m surprised sea-doo is not better on quality control. I see others getting the sea-doo business because of the IDF issues.
Got it 4 days ago. If the dealer sees a problem on delivery they rectify it before you get it, but mine showed no signs of an issue. Anyway, the techs do a much better job than those at the plant in Mexixo
@@NigelHay I ordered a GTR back in September.... no iDF to worry about... but no sign of the ski either... sucks that it isn't working properly, hopefully you have no further problems, the idea behind it is great I think
Thats why I never buy the first few years of a new product. I wait for another consumers to go through the problems and hope it’s Corrected before I purchase.
My 2021 Fish Pro has left me stranded on the water 3 times now with this iDF issue. The dealer has repaired 2 times. I no longer trust this jet ski at all. I've contacted my dealer, after the third failure and told them I no longer want the thing. The plan at this time is for my dealer to come pick it up some time next week.
@@MayooN, the first time they repaired it, I believe they probably replaced the failed part with a part that had not been updated. The second time, when they told me they had replaced the failed part again, I asked them, if replacing that part didn't fix it the first time, why would it fix it the second time? They had wanted to replace the entire iDF unit, but BRP wouldn't let them. I actually asked the dealership guy if BRP had changed that part. He told me they had. In fact, he pointed out that the new part didn't even have the same part number that the part they had used before did. So, I'm assuming the second time, they used the updated part. But, it still failed, too. I'm not having that ski worked on again, and taking it out a 4th time, hoping that it works. I'm done with it. My dealer understands completely, and is with me. However, they have to talk to BRP. So, I'm waiting to hear from my dealer to see what BRP says. My dealer is willing to have me return the ski and give me my money back. I'm waiting to hear from my dealer this week, after they have spoken with BRP. If BRP is still insistent on fixing it yet again, I guess I'll either have to take some sort of legal action, or just let them repair it again, at which time I'll sell it. I just don't trust it or have any confidence in it. I wouldn't dream of taking that ski on a Florida vacation and taking it out on the Gulf of Mexico or the Atlantic Ocean.
I got a video on utube being sea towed in for 500 bucks seadoo bought mine back it was one of the first ones to break I want to.order a 2022 but not sure yet i got towed in 3 times and gave up on it the dealership got a new idf and that broke
It really does leave you in a vulnerable position when it breaks down and you then lose all trust in BRP. I just watched your video, $500??? I hope you contact BRP directly
Reminds me off the 951 debacle they should of done a little more r@d they rushed this technology for the fish pro and the new switch.but they will get it figured out
Sorry, but if you were offered a newer part that means that the previous solution didn’t solve the issue! They didn’t just create a newer part for fun. That’s why the dealer kept telling you that. The part you got may not have a long solution life.
900 Kms in 4 days to fix your machine? Totally unacceptable. I had a deposit on 21 GTX limited with IDF and an expected delivery date around June then got an email from Seadoo saying that my machine was going to be 8 - 10 weeks late on the delivery. I also started hearing about the IDF/Carbon seal problems around that time and decided to cancel my order. Fortunately the dealer gave me my deposit back. I feel like I dodged a huge bullet. I also had a deposit on a 21 Yamaha VX Cruiser HO. The machine actually ended up being delivered early. Although not the largest machine Yamaha makes I have had it out very rough conditions by myself (6-8 foot breaking waves with 40 km + winds) and feel totally safe. I have ridden this machine over 50 hours with no problems whatsoever. Knowing what I know now about Seadoo I don't understand why anyone would buy these machines. Made in Mexico, Overengineered, Overpowered and unreliable garbage.
It's new technology to clear debris, I have heard from many users that it is great, but a few have come faulty. This is how it works ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MZ77JQG2xbM.html
@@NigelHay perhaps the original comment mistook your British accent for Australian 🤷🏽♂️. But this is one of the only times that Australians aren't ripped off. These are almost the same money in Aus, USA, and Canada!

Omg, that is really crappy. It seems to be more prevelant on the FishPros than GTX'S. Did you get them fixed? Compensation? I'm fighting for some form of compensation from BRP.
@@NigelHay They are fixed and we have had them out twice since the repair and they are working good. So, it appears that the issue was resolved on mine. I am working with BRP towards an equitable resolution of the issue, nothing yet. But, believe they are taking it seriously.
