By my notes John we had the great Ormonde who took over box 1 (left) and Havester with the big crooked blaze went into box 2 (right) I try to keep detailed descriptions & screen shots like collecting “Pokémon” the new craze collecting horse guard horses names 😂 Ormonde was replaced with Quintessense (left) and Harvester was replaced with the new “Q10” if that is confirmed to be his name! Did we get an actual hight of him??

Hello Aaron, so very sorry to hear that you are suffering with depression. I have been suffering with a chronic pain condition for over thirty years. It has robbed me of a normal life. I don’t have debilitating depression, but my pain is very debilitating. You are doing the right thing by watching “positive” videos like this one. I try to watch comedy shows or movies and stay away from negative people, and depressing movies or shows. I have found some really nice videos on you tube, especially the ones from England. I am Canadian, originally from England and miss it so much. It is such a beautiful country with so much history and gorgeous countrysides and villages. I manage to get through my days by surrounding myself with things I love (even changing the decor in your home if possible) watching things which bring me peace and joy and talking to friends and family who help me stay positive. Meditation can be helpful. Swimming is my exercise of choice as everything else brings me too much pain. I know the last thing you want to do when you are depressed is exercise, but if you can push yourself, it will help. Even a short walk. I try to get out of the house every day, even if it’s only to walk around a grocery store (even though it is becoming more and more difficult for me). It is important to try and distract yourself as much as possible. I pray that you overcome your depression. Big hugs and love from Canada.❤️🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦

What tourists seem to forget is that these are working guards. They are not just there to look pretty for them. They need to be more mindful of that. Ask politly if you can have a photo. Most don't mind as long as they are not about to change over. Tourists can be so ignorant at times.

Hello from Nova Scotia Canada. I am so glad I found your videos. I am 72 years old and grew up through times of living under the monarchy and in the commonwealth of English rule. We were taught respect of the monarchy and, as children, it was ingrained into our lives. Too bad those days are gone. I often get frustrated watching people who don’t respect the guards and their horses. It’s shameful and doesn’t say much for the parents and how little people understand loyalty and respect for others. Keep up the great work.

The trumpet solo is to announce to the captain of the old guard that the new guard is approaching. However if it is very cold the trumpeter may not play but just go in to collect the officer

I think we're getting a bit mixed up here. I think you're right, the trumpeter of the old guard sounds the solo in the courtyard after he returns from seeing the new guard approaching down the Mall. There was an earlier video of this where the trumpeter rides to the juncture of the Horse Guards Approach Road and the Mall and when he saw them coming, rode back to Horse Guards to sound the solo, to warn the captain that the new guard are approaching and for him to join his regiment out on the parade ground. So as I read it the trumpeter of the new guard doesn't sound anything here. Incidentally the order given to the trumpeter was, 'fall out the trumpeter'.

I think that is quite the point. A lot of the tourist have never been exposed to pomp, ceremony and tradition, they probably don’t understand. The Chinese and Russians though would not dare to be disrespectful in their respective countries as they know the police would haul them away. Maybe they just feel free out of their countries and thus misbehave. Thinking about it, some kids love to misbehave away from home. That was not the case for me, all my mother had to do was look at me and I knew I was in trouble and there would be consequences! I am 76 years old and those were different times.

John, when I mentioned the yard could use a pressure wash, I wasn’t suggesting that they turn it into Disneyland with fake facade’s, just that the military are known to be fastidious about cleanliness behind the scenes concerning the gaurds.. so why hasn’t that been transferred or included in the historical building in which they work. I’m a proud Brit so I found your quip hurtful. I only meant that some green algae and black traffic soot could be removed, that’s it. That girl on the horse does not take crap from anyone the horse or the tourists thank goodness. Sometimes I laugh when the Guard's yell at people. I don't understand why everyone has to touch the reins. I swear half of them do it and just reaching out not knowing where there hands go. That guy that was pretending to want a picture with the guard he just wanted a reaction from him. I'm horrible with names like the horses I look at the horse's front of their faces for the white or no white and shape of the white. You are probably the only one that actually talks to us and explains things to us. And I pay attention to there personalities like one love's getting petted and one will bite anyone that comes near him. I just wanted to type that.

It;s not the Royal Standard The Royal Standard is the King;s Personell Standard which Flies at the Location where the King is currently located. The banner the guards are carry are the Reginental Colours which are heart of each regement. The Colours are awarded by the King or Queen and are a record of the the Regiment Victories in wars. The Regimental trumpeters all ride white horses so they are visible in battle and the trumpeter in playing orders as they did in past wars. If you watch Trooping of the Colour which happens on the June Kings Birthday Celebration weekend, It will give you an insight.

Hello from USA, just love to see your videos. It’s a shame how disrespectful people are now days. The Kings Guards shouldn’t have to put up with it! How shameful!

Hello, from Oregon. I don’t think the words were “all hail the trumpeter.” What I heard was “fall out, trumpeter,” and that’s when the trumpeter moved out of the line.

I think many were suffering from water on the brain today, wow so many firsts happened, as you listed off one after another weird things were happening. Thanks as always my friend for a great video, personally I hope the renovations are limited to the courtyard area as the staining of the building has come from time I would not like to see it all freshly painted. I would like to see some work done on the horse boxes maybe newly fixed and painted doors and some work on the cobbles inside them for the comfort of the horses and safety for the Troopers on them but that would be it, Horse Guards has endured so much over the years so leave the walls and the stains alone they have all been earned from time itself. Keep Safe Keep Strong 🦘🦘🦘🦘❤❤❤❤

I value the work that you do in that I get to see the courtyard workings of a working royal barracks and the challenges that the soldiers/guards/horses deal with on a daily basis as they go about their work. Tourism is a major part of the economy in London and as such needs to be respected not vilified. Your quest to video the errant behaviours of the tourists (and locals) means that you become part of the drama just by your presence to video it all. It can be rewarding to be viewed as a regular/reporter of the masses, but you too are one of the masses. I definitely agree that many parents have abdicated their responsibility to educate their children about how to be respectful when visiting other cultures and official sites. Naturally, the mother will protect her child regardless of the situation. Best to leave the policing and guarding up to those who hold those positions. If you get triggered by the behaviours, then step back, bring in the police, but don't put yourself in close proximity to the chaos especially where children are involved..... The man who was trying to put his head on the brow of one of the horses, may have been trying to communicate with the animal. This is a sign of great respect for the creature in his culture. Unfortunately, he can't translate that behaviour as being an interference/inappropriate when the horse is at work as a royal guard to the King. Commentary is everything. It says a lot about who you are as a person. Keep up the great work.

I watch you everyday as well John, it’s my secret pleasure & get so peeved at the tourists who act up, that’s why I love Ormonde so much. I thought the horse you said was so passive (the left horse as I look, on first of Blues & Royals), maybe I was wrong though. Love from Victoria, BC 🇨🇦

Hello My name is Julie and I am new to your channel and love watching your videos and listening to your commentary ❤ I have a question I hope you forgive my ignorance, my excuse is I am Australian 😊 my question is is can you please explain to me why do the guards slap their horses before they dismount?
@cordeliahamilton1061
@cordeliahamilton1061 10 месяцев назад
@barbaraevans5281. Hello, Barbara. This is to let the horse know that the rider will be dismounting and to steady the redistribution of weight as the guard dismounts. Glad you are enjoying John's videos. He is great.🙋🇬🇧
@kelenglishbellamy
@kelenglishbellamy 10 месяцев назад
Hiya, the 'slap' on the saddle, is done by the trooper slightly adhead, so the other can see, and is actually the signal to the other, as part of drill, so they hopefully dismount in synchronisation together! ( I used to be in the Kings Troop RHA) X

HI JOHN, Just want to compliment you on your wonderful informative videos. I was born in Cheshire, England, but have lived in Canada since 1965, at age 19. I love Canada, but miss my beloved England sooo much. You have taught me so much about London and the Guards that I didn’t know. I am always in awe of the British people who know so much about their own country. My brother, who still lives in Cheshire always takes me to amazing places when I go back for a,vacation, and he knows so much about every place we go. I have a chronic pain condition and have a lot of sleepless nights. I have started watching your videos and am addicted to them. Thank you for distracting me from my pain issues. Your videos make me happy and put a smile on my face. Big hugs and love from Canada.❤️🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦

Each regiment has their own trumpeter with a Long Guard. The trumpeter who rides up to the Mall to watch for the new guard is from the old guard. The reason for the solo after he sees the new guard coming is to let the Captain know, for some reason he went inside today. Trumpeters wear red plumes even if they’re a Life Guard. Next time you film a Long Guard, go out to the parade ground. Both trumpeters signal the arrival and departure of the other regiment.
