I guess the battery was disconnected for a little too long. It was hard to start and would barely idle, but this procedure took care of it. Thanks again!!

wL my car only has this idle hunt after it warms up… from 400-1000-400, & so on. every 1-2 seconds regardless of engine rpm’s(io not connected with). but in drive with foot in brake - it might stall - sooo waiting for warm-up might not be poss✋ hmnn🤔..

2019 chevy spark. Battery died and had a rough idle after replacing and swapping plugs,boots and coils. Had no idea I had to recalibrate the iac in these instances. After about 10 minutes of the idle playing back and forth it balanced out. Great tip, thanks again!
@@sydneykv Yeah it worked for me. It doesn't always work on the first attempt for me though. There's been a couple times where i had to do this 2 or 3 times before it Relearned how to idle properly.
Currently with this issue. Replaced battery and alternator and truck has been stalling out since. Trying this idle relearn didn't seem to do anything the first time. Trying it a second time now and came across your comment. Hoping it works eventually
I just sold my car but I left the instructions for the guy to keep it in park I gave him a 2 by 4 so that you could keep the brake pedal push down by pushing the 2 / 4 against the seat... I hope I did the right thing? 😂
This worked for my 2014 Scion XB. The shaking was violent and seemed to not work at first, but it settled after several minutes and seems to be better than ever. Thank you for sharing! You're a life saver.
You need to do this for real after changing or disconnecting your battery..it took my car almost a month to relearn my driving habits and now all my issues has gone..good video btw 👍
This really works. I did a clean up on the Throttle Body which is electronic (Dodge Avenger SXT 2008), and I had to disassemble it. At the moment I cleaned it, I had to touch and move the butterfly hoping that nothing would happen due I disconnect the negative terminal of the battery as my first step. Anyway, the Throttle Body got dis-calibrated, in a fashion that when I start-up the engine the RPMs reached up to 2,000 without decreasing. So I performed this procedure and my RPM come back to the normal. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING THIS INFO.
After replacing the starter on my 08 Rav4 I could not figure out why the idle was now running so low. I went back over everything I had done and couldn't see any airflow hoses amiss... Your video solved my problem. Thank you much!🙏 God bless you!

Own a 03 Lexus GS300 with an erratic / low idle problem. Not uncommon with these 2JZ engines. Stealership wanted $180 to run diagnostics check!! I did this procedure and it WORKED! Car idles perfectly! Thanks GK7.

Thank you! I've replaced the battery on my '06 Mustang V6 every 3 years since I bought it new (I live in the hot SW) and have never had an idle issue until replacing it last night. I thought my alternator was on its last legs until I found your video. I modified the instructions for my 5-speed to avoid keeping it in neutral and was good to go without the annoying idle. Much appreciation!!!
@@erniecarrasco9107 I wish I knew after 2 years, but with a stick, try it with the car in neutral. Either that or keep it in 1st with the clutch and brake down the whole time so you don't stall out or take off. 😆 Probably the latter now that I think about it. It worked for me, though. Edit: I forgot I said don't keep it in neutral so go with 1st gear while parked. 👍
Hi tried a different procedure 2 days ago.. it was a lot of steps, and it worked, or so I thought.. the engine light came on the next day(yesterday) running rough all day, and today as well. I'm a contracted driver and I really thought this was the end of this car. I actually just came across this video and decided to try it while at work. It actually worked!! I'm amazed how simple it is! I did recently replace my battery, as well as the throttle body, and I pray this fixes everything! May God Bless you and keep you!
Thanks for the video guide. I have a Toyota Estima 2007 4cyl. Battery was drained to 0% after interior light had been left on. Recharged battery and found upon running of engine, the idle to have dropped to almost a stall. There are a few vids on Google regarding the Estima but the method I used was slightly different. The one thing that is the same with all the instructions that I have come across on Google, whether it is a 'manual' key in the ignition or 'push button' start approach, is that you have to get the vehicle into the acc position twice. My vehicle is the push button start. So; 1. Ensure engine is warm and not cold. Obviously at cold start the engine is going to run at a higher rev whilst getting things moving around. Not sure if vehicle needs to be at optimum operating temps. I wouldn't think so. I think the engine just needs to be past that initial high rev start at cold start. 2. Put car in park. 3. All accessories off (anything using power). 4. NO brakes applied. 5. Complete this next procedure twice. (Push the button two times to get the dash lights on, wait for the dash lights to dim and then push button again to turn off.) 6. This is the last step. Push down and hold down the brake pedal. (Otherwise the car wont start! :-D ) Push the start button to start. Apply hand brake ( maybe just a security measure - so no running into your house! :-) ). Release foot brake and just wait a minute. All done. One minute was all it took. There was a video of a guy re-setting his Estima in a 'similar' fashion but he also stated that you could actually set the idle position to whatever you like just by holding the revs at your desired limit for two minutes or so. I could not get this too work no matter what I tried. So just resorted to the engine auto setting itself. I would have liked it to idle at around 900rpm. Oh well, it works in any case.

Damn I wished I found this video. My Toyota died and the mechanic said it was the alternator .. spent $300 on that and it would shut off while idling and change the throttle ..new throttle is $1000 so we found a used one for $200 ... now the car still shaking and the mechanic said you need to drive it for at least 50km to allow the learn and reset process to stop the shaking .. I’m going to try your method as it makes sense and it’s worked for many. Hopefully it will stop the shaking
It worked for me my car was acting crazy hesitation in traffic and the mpg info was going crazy displaying a bunch of numbers after driving for a week everything is back to normal..
Omg thank you so much. I have a 2005 Toyota Camry and I had disconnected my battery to take out my factory radio. After that, my idle got low and I thought "whatever, its just an old car". Then, after I tried to put in my aftermarket radio, the idle was so low that it was in the 300-500 range and at one point DIED while I was trying to drive it off.. I was TERRIFIED that I had "killed my car". I tried this and now my car is idling at a healthy 900. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 Thank you!
Work like a charm on a 2002 Camry. Only had to hold it like that for about a minute before the idle leveled out with all accessories off. This is by far the easiest way to do it! Thanks for the video!
Years ago I had a 2004 Camry and replaced the battery then left to go to the Fl Aquarium here in Tampa. I get off the interstate at the exit, which was in a bad area and at the light my car dies!!!! I was like what in the world? I realized it was the new battery and like many cars, it had to re-learn the idle trim! It started right up and was fine but for a second it really scared me!! That Camry was like an old pair of shoes, it was such a good, reliable car that was always there for me! Sold at 165,000 miles in 2009 with the original brake pads and the only thing I ever did was new tires and the serpentine drive belt (The 4 cyl engine did not have a timing belt) and the bolt that held the window regulator together came off..Guess it got loose and came off..simple cheap fix! Loved that car!! Toyota is hard to beat!

My 2001 Chevy suburban sat for 3 days, battery died. When i fully charged the battery, the idle was shit an would stall my car an my ac would blow hot air at idle. I unplugged my + terminal on battery while car was running and my engine turned off.(was told that means alternator was bad) went to orileys to b sure, an yes. computer said the regulator was bad in my alternator. Bought, an installed a brand new alternator (fairly easy).....my idle was still shit! Still blew hot air!...... after all that...thank you this worked!....next I would of changed the idle air control valve an that's as costly as the alternator(luckily fairly easy to install) ... hope this helps
Works on Grand Vitara 2.4L 2011 Just got my battery replaced 2 days ago. After battery replacement, the engine idle below 600 and start shaking. Search the internet and found this video. I tried on warm engine, it works. Now the idle normal on 800-900, and shaking is gone
Thank you so much for this video. It worked perfectly for my 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500 that had recently had a completely dead battery. My truck was going dead while stopped at a traffic light and even went dead as I was slowing to make a turn. Another problem that I had was my air conditioning would not blow cold air at idle or slow speed. At faster speeds, it would blow ice cold air. The idle relearn procedure resolved both issues. I have a 2006 Monte Carlo... Already had the cool air blower issue while idling...battery died....got a jump...had an engine light come on and a whole mph issue on the way home. Just before Christmas 🎄☃️ on top of it all..... THANK YOU for this video and the comments 💗🙌🏼🙏🏼💪🙂
Thank you so much. Was having problems on my 2006 Chevy Colorado 2.8 motor replaced throttle body & throttle position sensor on gas pedal but was still going into "reduced power" mode. This solved my problems. Thank you! Probably saved me $100's of dollars!
This Worked for my daughters 2012 kia forte, but only after the engine got up to operating temperature. Until that point I tried a dozen times or so while it was cold to reset the idle and failed. But succeeded once the engine got hot. Running good now with peace of mind.
It worked. I had to change my starter and after, the car would not stay idle high enough and would just shut down. I had to park, research it and fix it. THANKS!!!!?
Ok, I was suspect if this would work but hot dang it did. We replaced the alternator on a friends 2003 Lexus ES330 and the idle was very low. Tried a couple procedures, nothing. This one worked! Took about 3 minutes for the idle to slowly come up. Thanks for putting this video out there!
OMG!!! It worked for my Dodge Caliber. I just replaced the throttle body and it ran great but...then when I turned it on the ide was low and shut off. Thanks!!
My toyota matrix 2009 needed a new battery and replaced it myself. Then my car would ignite/turn on. I did the same steps as your video and KABLAMO! My car ignites again. Thanks man
My Sebring idled really bad after l changed the battery and l thought what l do wrong. The gentleman saved me time and money as l thought it was going in the shop for costly $$$ repairs. This method reset the computer in my car for free. Thanks for helping those of us who don't know a lot about cars. The repair shop didn't tell me this is all l had to do! So thanks again. I'm a little smarter now.
@@luisgallardo3976 You're not supposed to know this, because this is a dealer-only technique that is in the training manuals. Now that those old manuals are filtering out to the general public through eBay and such and people are publishing the information, this is all coming to light. I have a 2002 Dodge, none of this was ever told to me either.

I'm pretty sure this really does work. When getting my battery replaced, my Lexus ES300 kept dying immediately. What fixed my issue was driving straight on the highway for about 15 minutes. Exit and park, turned the car off and back on. This seemed to fix my problem. Starts up like a charm at a perfect idle.
I think he missed an important fact in the video- The engine temperature MUST be at normal prior to starting the procedure. Better to look for people who specialise in fixing vehicle issues, as novices (even though sincere) can easily miss one step in the excitement of making a video.
Mine didn't work. I did it today 2 times, followed all the steps but it didn't work. Temperature was OK to start the process. But rpm still didn't go above 300. I'm frustrated
@@englishwithdani6937 mine worked at the first try. I did exactly what he said to do, AC/heat, radio off, turned the key the right way etc... Sorry it didn't work for you. Maybe disconnect and reconnect the battery properly and try again.
My hyundai sonata 06 had the same problem after changing weak battery , it died many times trying to idle but last try rev up to 3k and hold slowly them before it goes out pull handbrake and put in drive while pressing brake , keep trying till it idles and stays idling good ! Thank you
Another procedure that works, especially for Ford, disconnect the negatva cable first then positive cable, run a jumper wire the positive and negative cables, DO Not let the cables touch the post on the batteries at all let the cables stay jumped for at least 15 to 30 minutes This will drain all the capacitors in the vehicle after the time reconnect the positive cable then the negative cable turn the vehicle on let it idle for 15 minutes Don't put it in drive don't use the emergency brake don't do anything just start it and let it sit there and idle for 15 minutes after about 15 minutes The vehicles should be idling calmly then take the car out drive it normal like you normally would Don't be aggressive don't drive crazy do a little bit of highway a little bit of city driving and after a few hundred miles she should behave perfectly and in Fords this also resets the transmission of adaptive learning so the shifts might be a little off but again after just a couple hundred miles the car will relearn and everything will go back to normal if not work better.
1999 Toyota solara manual v6 did this and after 5 minutes it dropped from 1100 to 700. Sounds good thanks. After the temp went to half I noticed it drop.

Great video with clear instructions. Can you please suggest how to do in Renault Logan. During lockdown battery was dead. After jump start and rode for few hours, speedo reading was less than gps speed.
Mike Staszek i hope this works. I have 2008 envoy. Pulled throttle body off cleaned it all up. Now my idle is threw the roof. I’ve tried different relearn procedures nothing works. I really hope this is true
Mike Staszek it worked a little. But as soon as i put it in drive it jumps back up. So guess it didn’t work. I tried a couple of times. Same result this is driving me crazy. I’m seeing that you need a scann tool to re idle. So I’m sure that’s going to end up pricey. I wish i never took throttle body off and clean. Lol. I hope i can find something out that works without going to dealership
I’m going to give it a few more days hopefully it relearn itself. I’ve already gone threw a full tank of gas at only 160 miles. So hopefully it relearn itself soon.
