@@reginaldforthright805 It's the same style but there are so much more detail and even more confidence. She literally made a video about it. It's similar but not the same.
Madoka Magica is one of my favorite animes and Madoka looks so cute in your style! Edit: My all time favorite is Death Note and a new favorite is Higarashi When They Cry (the new version.)
I'm not sure you'll see this, but I love your art! It's super cute! ^^ But I have a suggestion for a show you could watch: maybe like Amphibia or The Owl House. They're both Disney shows, out on Disney+. I really love both the shows, they're my top favorites. They both have a few similarities, but not to the point where they're both like the same. Amphibia has 3 seasons, and recently ended, and The Owl House currently has 2 seasons, but it might be getting about 3 extended episodes in about October 2022. I hope you see this, and try either of the shows! You don't have to though, it'd just make me happy to see you at least watched some. ^^
my favourite anime is sort of the opposite to this video!! deltora quest was originally a western book series but it got an anime adaptation and I've loved it for like a decade now
My favorite Anime of all time is Chobits! I really fell in love with Chi and I still try to watch it yearly. My new favorite anime is The Disastrous Life of Saiki K, the humor is top notch and always makes me laugh.
The animes I've been into recently are Ascendance of a Bookworm, Spare me great Lord, Those Years I Opened a Zoo, Tsuritama, and Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun
6:46 I think if a cartoon it could work super well as like a courage the cowardly dog type! Dark, scary My favorite animes are Inuyasha and Soul Eater! Rewatching Bleach and it's also an interesting one.
You've probably already seen this one before because it's a bit old and some of it may not have aged too well, but one of my all-time favorite anime is Trigun. It just has some of my favorite characters and some fun designs. It really holds a special place in my heart, especially since it was one of my first anime.
I really love how stylized her art is. And how every piece she makes is pretty much a watermark for itself, because when you look at her art, you know for certain it’s hers.
Honestly if someone tried to steal her art it would be superrr easy to tell (not that people can’t have similar art styles) Edit: Guys. Calm down. I said you can have similar artstyles. If you tried to trace her work you’d have to have a very similar style to make it look authentic. Or if they straight up took her work Lavender would likely be a good place to start knowing her style. I didn’t mean to offend anyone
I love your style and colors but I think that this doesn't look like an "American" type of cartoon, it just feels like normal fanart (which is cool too). In my opinion it simply looks like how you would draw them but it's not like the common cartoonish western type
The Madoka one was really helpful to me. I really liked it and I'll definitely be taking some notes! Another amazing video, and one of my favorites for sure!
I love your style so much it definitely has more interest than most mainstream cartoons, but I feel like it’s less a western cartoon style and more just “drawing my favorite anime in my style”
“The characters really stay with you-“ yeah- that show fucking horrified me, I was like 8 when I watched Madoka, the only reason I finished was because the morbid curiosity of it
My brother after watching the show decided to show me who, at the time was (like you) 8 this show, leading me on about it being a happy kids anime. I fell into a depressive episode when the friend did her thing. I have never recovered from that show
This is amazing so far! I think you may like sound euphonium. It’s a very underrated and small show. The third season is coming out next year! Does not have a dub though. You have to read subtitles.
I have recently started watching SPYxFAMILY with my younger sister and we are both obsessed with it! I’m one for action adventure type stories so getting that plus a little slice of life wholesome moments felt like just the right mix! It’s such a good show and I love the relationship the “family” shares. It’s just such a sweet and enjoyable anime. Its def become my fav anime.
Funny you mentioned how the "western" version of Spy x Family would be more about a trio of friends actually reminds me a lot of Kill Me Baby. It's a trio of high school friends (okay not really friends), and while one isn't a psychic but is just unhinged, there is an assassin and a ninja. It's a cute and silly anime I recommend if you want a good "Welp...that just happened".
Honestly I feel like there are some animes that wouldn't be that different in the west like I don't think Kotora Lives Alone wouldn't be that different. Also I really love that show.
Idk if anyone will care about my opinion, but I really am loving and obsessed with Komi Can't Communicate. It's hilarious, wholesome, yet so relatable. If you like fun, over the top characters that are somehow so relatable, cute romances, amazing queer representation, and just all around good time, then try out Komi. Idk if most people hate it, love it, or are meh about it, but I'm loving it ❤
I'm a lesbian but Komi and Tadano are GOALS, and I love how Najimi can just Be™ without having to defend their existence. It's definitely one of my favourite anime and I hope it gets more seasons (Ren Yamai's character bothered me a lil tho- why does the only lesbian have to be a pervert and a creep obsessed with Komi :( )
✨Quick guide for reference!✨ 0:11 Spy x Family (Hulu, Crunchyroll) 3:54 Odd Taxi (VRV, Crunchyroll) 7:29 Madoka Magica (Hulu, Funimation, HBO Max, Crunchyroll) 10:43 Ensemble Stars Music (Sponsored game on mobile) You can lemme know if I missed anything! 💕
As someone who's a big big fan of Madoka magica, I'm really happy that you included that anime in this video. Although I would have loved to see the anime Fruits basket in here, since it is also pretty out of the ordinary and I think that it would be interesting to see how you adapt that anime to a more western cartoonish style.
also considered she was floating around what ifs in regards to plot changes, it would be interesting to discuss the potential of something other then the Chinese zodiac being used in this theoretical American version
I love Lavendertowne as much as the next guy but this video feels like an excuse for her to make fanart lol :P ( like she didn’t really Americanize the animes and more of drew them in her style?)
Your style is so so so pretty but honestly I feel as though these pieces are more like fanart than a Western adaptation because all of these characters look like they would come from the same show because they're all in your style. The amount of detail you put into the characters are beautiful but hard to animate 😅 it doesn't have any of that super styalised uncanny feel like you talked about in your video. I don't know maybe I missed the point lmao
As an growing artist, I'm wanting to make my own American anime! I've being planning the plot for 5 years now, and I'm still doing character design! The western art style is great along with the eastern! Anyway thanks for uploading! Edit the plot- An African American female teenaged girl who has powers that are related to time. She reverse, stop, slowdown, and speed up time! That power is called "Time capsule" she ends up in a lot of conflict during her daily life, and suffers trying to get decent grades, along with arguing with her mother about how she hasn't seen father since she was about 5 years of age. She ends up running away from home, thinking she can runaway from her problems, but she somehow ends up in a mysterious place after running about 15 minutes away from her house. She finds herself in what it seems like a forest but not just any forest, a forest that hasn't been seen in over 25+ years. This is it for now I'm still working on the plot I might change it, but overall thanks for taking your time to read such a long comment! Bye be safe! 🙏❤️😊
@@rylerenoblas8057 thank you for the support! I've always loved telling stories I tend to go wild with my imagination, along with designing characters, plots, etc! When I'm older I'm hoping to write books too for those who are interested! Thanks again for the support!
i love how every clip she sounds so quiet at the beginning and then slowly gets more comfortable. and then when theres a cut or new clip you can hear the difference
I hate to break the chain of positive comments but none of these fit the "Westernization" theme because she just drew it all in her own style like any other video. I love Lavendertowne but this video almost feels like a cop out. Not to mention the undertone of "Anime is far better than Western cartoons" in the section where she draws Anya. Western cartoons don't typically have "creepy" styles because a lot of them are made for children in mind. She could've kept Anya as cute as she is in the anime so this felt weird. Some of the things she did which didn't match the Western theme was her pen pressure lineart. As an artist I love lineart that isn't static but she's trying to emulate a certain style of animation so it doesn't work here. Western cartoons back in the day had thicker lines but nowadays they're somewhat slimmer so either could've worked. She should've also tried to keep it clean too. Next issue is the detail. The coloring of the lines, wrinkles in the clothing, shading, and lighting really mess this up. Animation styles in the West are usually kept simple to make it easier on the animators. Characters eyes are rounded out, their hair is simplified shapes, and the overall anatomy is either blocky or soft depending on what era of Western animation she was going for. At the end of the day this feels more like anime fanart instead of seeing how anime characters would look in a Western style. It still gets a like from me but I wish she put a bit more effort into this one. Still love her work though! 💫
I like how yehaw is an American stereo type that we only say when we're messing around. I've never heard anyone legitimately use it but man is it a fun word to say lol
But these don't look anything like "Western cartoon" styles lol. They just look like they were redrawn in your own personal style, which is itself heavily influenced by anime.
@@pastelpudding1097 That doesn't change that her artstyle doesn't look anything like the traditional western cartoon. Think of like The Owl House, Steven Universe, Star vs the Forces Of Evil, ect. Now think of anime like Attack on Titan, My Hero Academia, Naruto, ect, the art styles bewteen the two cartoons are nothing alike. It's pretty much not western cartoon. Everyone is influenced by everything, just because you take inspiration doesn't mean it's automatically what you took inspirations from. Anya looked pretty much like her anime counterpart. She didn't change the outfit, or the hair style, or anything to look more "western". Even Madoka's outfit didn't change. I'm pretty sure Japanese uniforms are different from American and European ones. LavenderTowne's artstyle has the anime staples, like the weird bangs and the big eyes. Of course her line art and body proportions are different, but that doesn't change that it looks more anime than anything else.
Agreed. I mean, i still love how she draws them, but it's basically fanart and not a reimagination of these anime in western style. Not to mention that this style would be good for concept design or comic, but not so good for animation because of all the little details
@@pastelpudding1097 anime isn't pretty much western cartoon LOL anime has its own aesthetic, animation techniques, and cultural influences that differentiates itself from western cartoons, and vice versa. just because one is inspired by the other, doesn't make it the original. i know for a fact you're not going to point at mickey mouse and call that anime. you'd sound like an idiot if you do. it's like saying italian pasta is chinese noodles bc noodles were brought to italy from china and made into pasta; however, we know that there is a huge difference between italian pasta and chinese noodles, even though the idea was borrowed however, you're right that anime is short for animation in japanese, but we're not in japan. that's the difference. when the term "anime" was brought into the english language, it was used as a distinction between western cartoons and japanese animation, changing the original definition overall. that means for us, "anime" would refer to japanese animation, not anything else
I was playing Ensemble Stars right before watching this video I CANNOT ESCAPE SUBARU also he looks adorable in your style and I'm most definitely gonna check out the anime that you mentioned in the video the art you made for them looks amazing ✊😔 keep up the great work! ☆
My absolute favorite animal of all time is Natsume Yuujincho! It's written by the same person as "into the forest of fireflies". I've heard a lot of people call this an unwind anime, one you can just put on after a long day of work, and I couldn’t agree more. It's slow paced, easy to follow, and extremely mellow. It's obvious that the series is a work of passion and I couldn't recommend it more.
BUNGO STRAY DOGS!! an amazing show, it's about actual adults, not teenagers so it's a good refresh. also,, watching you and your art grow over the years is so,, IDK HOW TO EXPLAIN IT BUT
Well there are some teenagers (Atsushi, the mc is a teenager for example) BUT yes, the majority of the cast are adults and I think it helps to ground the story really well even though they all have superpowers ^^ Definitely worth watching- the show is a lot more underrated in the West
Y’know, I love your art but, that looks quite a bit more like your style than western cartoons. I feel like it’s a little *too* detailed. Most western cartoons have less little lines around things and have less detailed/shaded colors. Idk I’m not a professional animator I just like watching cartoons lol 💀
the little "yeehaw" in the title is so amusing I love it I've never been big into anime but I've recently started watching a couple here and there. (I watched Violet Evergarden, most of One Punch Man, a movie called A Whisker Away, and now I'm watching Demon Slayer) This was an entertaining episode for sure I FREAKING LOVE THE CAT SKELETON SKETCH YOU DID WOW I LOVE THAT You did a fantastic job making the cracked phone screen look super cool I'd heard about Madoka recently and I'm interested in watching it but idk where 😭 I love the deeper psychological theme congrats on the sponsor :D
3:45 She looks like, IF you procreated. Also I have a Suggestion; The Wizard of Oz The Book has a bunch of Crazy Creatures that I would love to see your take on. For Example in the book THE WIZARD does not simply appear as a giant head, he appears differently to each character. Dorothy sees him as a Giant Green Head (as seen in the film) Scarecrow sees him as Beautiful Winged Lady (Drag) The Tin Man sees him as a Wild Beast (My favorite out of the four) and The Lion sees him as Great Ball of Fire (as also kinda seen in the film). The Book also Boasts these things called "Kalidahs" which have Tiger heads and Bear bodies. L. Frank Baum was a crazy and creative camper.
I highly recommend the Ancient Magus Bride anime and manga. It’s an awesome mix of dark and twisted and wholesome and magical. Welcome to Demon School! Iruma Kun is an amazing feel good and funny anime/manga.
Oh cool new video, love the art style, always gets me motivated Honestly i love spyxfamily, it really is a refresher from all the "not your average 14 year old" stuff My favorite anime is MHA and recently found a great love for Spyxfamily
9:25 "It is a little bit depressing sometimes-" sometimes? sometimes. i cried too many times for this to be a sometimes madame. beautiful art as always 😭🤚
I see people complaining but i like the fact that she did it not in that like steven universe or svtfoe style, cause i think it would have just looked like, i dunno.... like, just a copy of that style i guess( this was not worded very good sorry i dont speak english very well )
Not hating or anything but I do feel like this video is more like drawing these characters in your style rather than in a western cartoon style. I know that you're American and your art is western looking too but it would've been nice to see you draw these characters in a different cartoon artstyle. I'm wondering if maybe you can do Pokémon, I'm curious to see how Ash would look like in a western style. I also don't watch anime since I hate it so much but there are really awesome cartoons you should check out! I recommend She-ra, Tales of Arcadia, The Dragon Prince, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Legend of Korra and finally The Owl House and Amphibia. I love those shows so much and I feel like maybe you should give them a try. You might enjoy them :)
While you do have a much more western inspired style, I can't help but see the anime influences in your art and like to be honest I don't think you're style reads as very western/american cartoon overall. Especially when you pull up screenshots from like flapjack spongebob and invader zim. Like I love you girl but these videos tend to be way more, if these anime were in my style, rather then if these anime were western cartoons.
I've been watching and have fallen in love with Birdie Wing; but I can't imagine how it could possibly succeed as a Western cartoon. The absolute anime-ness of it is part of what makes the whole concept work.
One of my all-time favorite animes that's a bit lesser-known is Mushishi! It's about this guy in past Japan going around and helping people with basically ghost bacteria that causes problems for humans. It's got a super laid-back vibe, and the concept is really interesting. An anime that I watched more recently was Fumetsu no Anata E. I ended up enjoying it as well!
My all time favourite anime is Mekakucity actors which is based in a manga which is based in a music saga made by the vocaloid producer Jin, I really reccomend it!! 💖💖💫
I love your drawings!! My all-time favorite anime is Given, it's a mix of slice-of-life drama with some romance and also about music, it's amazing. My most recent favorite anime is Fire Force, it's been out for a few years but I just recently watched it and I love it. It's about a world with spontanious human combustion, fire powers, and the fire force has to put the infernals (people turned into fire demons) to rest. It's also amazing. Love your videos!
IF YOU HAVENT ALREADY TOU SHOULD WATCH/READ TOILET BOUND HANAKO-KUN!!! ITS REALLY GOOD!! The anime is a bit odd compared to the manga as many important parts are either left out or swapped in order, but it’s getting a reboot this October!!!
Hetalia is my favorite anime of all time, but I would NEVER recommend it to someone else unless they were used to lower-quality animes, lol. But despite its problems, it's really funny and even emotional at times and the characters are so interesting, especially in their character songs released separately from the anime..! But as for an anime I'd actually recommend, Princess Jellyfish would be my #1 pick! The characters are great and their interactions and growth throughout the series make the show really special. (The art style of the manga, especially the covers, is really beautiful as well!)
I see it's been said a lot, and I agree with the others when they say this does look more like typical (yet high quality) fanart than American Cartoons... BUT-- Please, I would love to see you do this again- with just some critique. American cartoons use a lot of shapes, like.. Look at how the hair on many characters keep an exact number of triangles Like Johnny Test, or Phineas and Ferb... or the very specific, unrealistic proportions of Kim Possible. Lilo and Stitch... Etc.
Eh, you did alright. I was hoping it to be more americanized but you just did your style which is honestly kinda japanese inspired anyway. I still like it, but it's just not american enough for me.
I have been struggling with anxiety attacks recently, and whenever I’m feeling stressed I come to your videos your voice is so relaxing and it really calms me down I hope you continue to do this!
Hey lavendertowne i am new to you channel and am loving it!! And have realized that you have a comic and I was honestly thinking about making one myself so do you have any start tips for that kinda stuff? I would greatly appreciate any tips!! :)
My favorite is Inuyasha because it was my first anime. But my recent favorite is Psycho pass. Psycho pass is Quite violent. Well both of them are violent. ✨
I love Lavender’s style so much. It’s the perfect mix of semi-anime, cartoony, and stylized cartoon in general. I especially love the amount of details in the faces of her characters, especially the eyes.
For anime I’d definitely recommend Hunter X Hunter, there’s more tweens and adults than teenagers taking on the entire world. Each part is very focused on the story and you can feel what emotion it’s trying to convey and characters determination.
My all-time favorite anime is called the promised Neverland it’s so good to be honest judging by the art that you post I think you would love it as much as I do!
I've watched you for years and you've been a huge inspiration and you've helped me out with a lot of things while watching your videos, I really can't thank you enough and I am in LOVE with your art style, you've improved so much over the years and I really like how you interpreted the characters designs into a more cartoonish style, and still made it obvious who each person was 🤗❤ Your probably hearing this show alot in your chat but I would like to see what you can do with Josuke Higashikata from part 4 of jojo's bizarre adventure, I really like this character and I'm curious to see what you can do with his design❤💗💖
if you havent seen jujutsu kaisen or sk8 the infinity you should definitely watch both of them, they're both different but there's such cool character designs in both of them and it'd be so cool to see your takes on the characters in both shows !
They're art has come a LOONNGG way and I love that. This is an example of coming from a good artist to a FULL ON GOD at art! Really good video! Love ya ♡♡
