My son was about to throw up once, so I yelled, “Run to the toilet!” He ran to the toilet, sat on it, then puked in the hamper

The annual review is, Are they still alive? Yes? Great, you pass! 🤪

When I had my first baby I asked the nurse, " How do I do this? How do I be a good mom." She said, "That fact that you're concerned about being a good mom means you're going to be a good mom." I was like, uh cool thanks😃

“I’m going to screw this kid up.” “Yeah but that’s what makes them really fun adults.” 😂

She forgot to mention that you will learn what all of your imperfections are because your children will freely TELL YOU what they are! 😂

After a c-section with twins, no sleep, bleeding haemorrhoids, forgot to eat all day, not even dressed, then they smiled at me and I melted and everything else meant nothing 🥰🥰 Best job ever!

The adoption or fostering process does require interviews and tons of paperwork but nothing really prepares you for being a parent until you are one. Shout out to all the parents who did apply and got accepted...and still have no freaking clue because nothing really prepares you for the best job on Earth!

Don't forget about us Dads. It is also the most rewarding job! When you are dancing with your little girl at her wedding, and she says "I chose him because he's the only one that compares to you". Ack! 😭😭😭😭

As a 57 year old mom who raised two daughters and they still love me and respect me I can honestly say being a mom was, and is the best job ever. They both have kids now and I get the "Mom what do" I do calls all the time. My girls where an easy raise, no problems with them not sleeping through the night from 2 months, and they where great teenagers. There where some medical problems we had to deal with and sleepless night in hospitals but we dealt with it and my husband was always there for all of us, all the time. The secret to raising good kids is to have a supportive husband, be honest with your kids, spend time with them, encourage them to be independent, listen to them and always be there when they fall down and need you to help them back up and back on the right track. I know that's counterintuitive if they are independent, but sometimes we all need our moms to listen to our problems and work through solutions that are helpful and not critical. We've all been there and Mom's are great listeners when you need them. I miss my mom who passed in 2007 and now I turn to my kids when I have problems and they listen and understand.

I've been a single mom since my four kids were ages 6, 4, 3, and 18 months. They are now in their upper 20s and they stopped blaming me for screwing up their lives once they got out of their teens. As a matter of fact, they say I'm the best mom ever! (Obviously flattery, but I'll take it.) I admittedly got lucky. Parenting is ridiculously hard. I think ideally it is a tag-team event; you trade off with your partner when you hit the wall.

As a former HR professional and current teacher...the job description would be about 500 pages and no one would pass the interview.

I raised five kids….I know, masochist, right? My guide was “not like my mother”, and the rest was flying by the seat of my pants. They’re all responsible adults now, so it was all worth it.

That was PERFECT! Loved the reference to a manual. I’ve always told my children, now 38 and 35, “ When you were born you didn’t come with a manual… a placenta popped out”. My kids are the best thing I have and we’ve weathered a lot together. I’m grateful we are so close today. Thank you for all the videos you put on RU-vid.

As an adoptive mom, I went through extensive assessments, government background checks, and interviews before my son was born. And there was still no manual. Agreed that Motherhood is the best, messiest, and hardest lifetime appointment. ❤️😂

I've been a full time college student, a full time RN and mom and xoege student, and now I'm currently a stay at home mom over the past year. Hands down the hardest thing I've ever done. It's my favorite job, but it's the hardest. I still rely on my mom so much for advice and help. Which is pretty sobering to think about that my children will also always need me, no matter how old they get. There really is no way to be prepared until you're there. It changes your whole life. But it also makes it so much more meaningful. Moms are awesome.

Not only a manual but one specific to each child as what might work for one won't necessarily work for another.

Being a mom you learn to be more grateful than youve ever been or could be w/o younguns ...to your mom for all shes done for you....to your husband for all the sacrafice he has to do to pay for them...to God for making such unique individuals ... to teachers for all the effort the put into helping them learn...to police for protecting us the best they can ...to doctors for being there at all hours ... even for restrooms in every public place...😊😊

I almost hate that the catching vomit is so true. Many many years ago, I thought it would be fun to get a portrait of my two littles at the mall photographer that specialized in "kiddie" portraits. We made our appointment and were there a few minutes. My oldest was around 2 1/2, my middle was an infant. While we waited, we grabbed a pretzel to share from the food court and were waiting outside the shop. My oldest (who looked absolutely fine and had a flair for some drama) says "Mommy, I feel like I'm going to puke." Stupid me didn't believe her, ok, here (extends hands)...she let it rip. Yeah. Uhm, no portraits that day. Mom lesson learned. Still wouldn't trade them for anything.

I was a nanny for a Japanese family for two years. I learned A LOT. But your real training comes from growing up with your OWN MOM raising you!

I don't see Motherhood as a "job," more of a calling. Being a parent makes no practical sense. One will be sacrificing money, time, resources, etc. for no tangible return. Strangely, it's the best thing one can do with one's life. Funny that.

I promise the best job I ever had/have is being a mom. Greatest part now is being a mom and being able to be a Mimi to 4 wonderful grandchildren.

Had my baby 50 years ago, I was 18. Leaving the hospital I actually asked if they were going to give me a manual or something. I had no clue what to do. Nope, no manual, thank goodness for Mom and mother-in-law!. Got through it and baby girl grew to be a beautiful woman and a great mama herself!

"Every little cough will wake you up... from across the house" - YEP - especially the suspicious one after they went to bed with a sore tummy and not looking quite right... You won't believe HOW QUICKLY you can move and find a "receptacle"!

As a single mom of 3, this is completely accurate. I had a huge gap between my first and my other two and it's night and day. Plus my two youngest are on the spectrum and teenagers now. I have not slept. I do not sleep. However, I still can't explain how an "I love you mom" makes me feel. All of the feels. My kids are pretty awesome, I lucked out. They are grateful and kind. Next life though, yeah, I'm gonna pass and travel and sleep lol.

People as old as me will remember the Peace Corps motto, which I always thought was the perfect description for motherhood: The toughest job you’ll ever love.

Hey but those things helped me get a job once they were in school. Yes, that's right. I put raising kids for 10 years on my application and got the job. 😅 They may have just required a pulse for the job but I like to think the sense of humor sold me. I got my name on the employee of the month plaque, too! But with my maiden name because in those 10 years of raising kids I was so busy and tired, I forgot to change my legal name(and that's on being a mom with adhd). 😅😅

Kids trick you with how fun they are to make. Until folks are ready to make kids, practicing is fun too!

It can sometimes be hard, but it is worth it, especially when my kid says something to me like, “you are a very sweet person, because you are a good Lego builder, and you always share your treats with me!”

It's called a puke bucket (old Ice Cream plastic bucket) and I keep one in every room I can.

Having actually "caught" vomit, I can attest that all of this is true!

Years ago when my sister was very young she was home sick. Mom told her if you get sick to your stomach throw up into the pan. Later while she was laying on the couch she got sick to her stomach so she placed the pan over her face and threw UP! Unfortunately my sister quickly learned about gravity that day and mom had a big mess to clean up. But she did what mom told her to do.🤦🏼‍♂️

You forgot to mention the 24/7 permanent work time. Lol Holidays and vacations included bonus stress.

This was hilarious and oh-so accurate. My kids are 16 and 10 and I still question if I'm doing it right.

Back when... We had just had the house carpeted. Oldest son (17) gets stomach bug...starts vomiting. And runs down the hall to the bathroom, with hands over his mouth. It sprays like a firehose, floor to ceiling, right down the entire hallway. 💦😔 I had to scrape puke from under the marble doorway, and the trim. I cried and cried while steam cleaning the carpet. Thankfully none of my other kids ever did that. And this current house has wood floors. 😁And the kids are grown & have their own homes to puke in.

I never caught vomit in my hands, but they would look pitiful, I'd give them a hug (not realizing they were sick) and they would throw up on me. Total change of clothes!

I laughed about the puke Soooooo true. I remembered my mom catching my puke in the bleachers of a swim meet and was so disgusted but years later as a mom catching my oldest son’s puke in the balcony of our church. My daughter and I were freaking out my grandson (13) about puke catching. It’s a mom thing. Three generations to prove it!

I vividly remember strapping my first child into a baby seat in our car that, even though it had been inspected, I was terrified I had put in wrong, and being sent home from the hospital with no real instructions wondering how on earth I was going to keep this precious little thing alive for even one night without screwing everything up. Now my kids are 15 and 10 and I go to sleep at night relatively confident that they'll survive the night but still wondering how I have screwed everything up. Being a parent is the best, worst, most rewarding, most thankless, life affirming, soul destroying, rollercoaster of the best and worst emotions and experiences and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. My wife is so much better at it than I am but thinks she is ten times worse. Moms are superheroes.

I have told my non-parent friends that there is not a bodily fluid you will not become intimate with when being a parent. Also, you will never not be tired…forever. I said that the reason kids run around with boundless energy is that they suck it out of their parents. Non-parents look at your friends with kids and tell me I am wrong. as sibling who basically raised some of her sibs lot good that did stupid gentics there's more then 1 way to catch vomit and hands are the least effective. honestly a blanket is quickest way for some reason blankets are always everywhere

I'm the stay at home Dad of two, oldest is 11. One thing missed is that sometimes a stomach bug will wreck the kid so bad, the smell also makes you sick. My son and I took turns vomiting into one toilet for nearly an hour. The answer to life, the universe and everything may be 42...but 2 clothespins would have saved the day.

This is all so true! Both of my kids are in College and I don’t sleep at all ! My life is a mess. I only sleep when they come home for holidays. This will be my life until I die! I will always worry for my kids .

It's almost like the Facebook one I saw years ago 😂. Anyone remember that one, where people go for a job but don't know it's a trick. They think its for a personal assistant. Then, they said that they would be on call even on breaks and holidays, and it could mean nights, even after a 12-hour shift. And the looks on these people's faces while they ask questions, which all are met with daunting answers. They must be thinking about the money until they ask how much they will be paid and met with the answer of, nothing! They ask what kind of job is this? When they found out it's for a mother, all laughed, then cried, except one guy who called his mother to tell her how much he loved and appreciated her.

Mine are 33 and 26 and I still don't know what I'm doing...bring on the grandbabies! :P

When I was 3 years old I asked my Momma what the hardest job in the world is? She answered "Being a mom." She also told me that she loved being a mom, that it's always worth it and that no mom is perfect

When my son was 2 months old I caught his vomit in my tshirt (like a bucket) & hands I’ll always remember my sister in law, who had no kids yet, being gobsmacked that I’d do that 🤣 I was like ‘I saved the couch though right?!’. When I was 16 I vowed I would never be one of those Moms who caught puke with their hands. I had a Mom tell me the best way to avoid that was to have a barf cloth around until the kid was 5. It worked. I only caught puke with my bare hands twice, once on the bus and once in a Walmart. As for a manual, I did have a very useful parenting book; however anyone who thinks a parent 100% of the time 100% follows any parenting book is a very rigid, narrow-minded person.

Even though it’s very funny, it’s so the truth!!! Just enjoy every second while they are young!! ❤️❤️

The Manual: The Baby Whisperer! Was gifted this after baby was a month old... saved our lives! Our instincts prior to that were all short term fixes that developed bigger problems! This book showed us how to dig our way out of all those problems, and how to avoid or at least minimize other problems! Would not have kept my sanity without this book! 😂🤣

I have legit caught vomit in my hands.... and what makes it worse (?) is that it wasn't even MY kid. I was volunteering in my daughter's kindergarten classroom, and it was one of her classmates who was sick, and I was RIGHT THERE with my cupped hands. LOL. Ahhhhh motherhood. Parenting made me an adult and helped me develop virtues that I was too selfish to develop on my own. There can't really be a manual bc every kid is different but I wish I had known more about temperaments and constructive discipline or had some mentors. Made a lot of mistakes. My 2 oldest are early 20s & still trying to figure their lives out but they pay for & manage their own lives. They suddenly become quite grateful to you when they move out for some reason! Earning their own living gives them self respect. They don't think too much of peers who are living in their parents' basements and can't keep a job bc they don't want to work or put up with all the BS you live with when you have a job. They also know how to cook and use power tools so I guess I taught them something worthwhile.

Nurse, here. Being a healthcare worker helps with parenthood because, 1) you’re taught pediatric physical and emotional stuff (I think all high schools should teach basic Child Development!!) and 2) it helps you grow a spine - “okay, you’re not bleeding to death? - bandaid, hug, now off with you!”

I love being a mom, though my baby is now 22! All my life I said why aren't there any good books on this?! At the age of 41 I found it! The Bible is the ultimate guide to children, life, and everything in between. You can say what you will, but that book, along with a great prayer life would have saved me money, tears, and anxiety if I had just picked it up in my youth!

So true! My husband was driving our family down the interstate and our toddler- from the back seat-says “I sick”. I whipped the hat off my husband’s head, twisted around and held it into the back seat for my son! Saved the car, threw out the hat…..

When I was in the hospital after having my youngest, a new first time mom was in the same room. She asked how many kids I had and I told her this was my fourth she said, "Oh! You're the one to go to for advice!" My thought was, "Me? When did I become the expert? I definitely DO NOT know enough to give advice!"

My youngest son, his first night home from the hospital, in ONE feeding in the middle of the night peed, pooped, AND threw up on me. Yeah, good times. (Where was my husband during all this? Oh, he was sound asleep because he had plans to go hunting early in the morning.) He was also the only child out of 4 to say 'mama' first, so, there's that heart-melting reward. :-) Being a mom is the hardest thing I've ever done. And my husband and I are far from perfect parents. But God has helped us raise 4 amazing kids whom we are ridiculously proud of. That is all the reward we need. Until the grandkids come, anyway. My mom always says that grandchildren are God's reward for raising kids. ;-)

Honestly the best manual I’ve found is therapy. We have had to do a lot of it as foster parents and then have learned so much that we apply with out bio daughter. (And the interview for foster parenting is long, grueling and invasive)
