I think the reason yellow broke you early was because you left the 7 outside their spot.

Not moving the 7 stack away from the yellow 9 was critical for sure. He either thought you were blocking his bonus or he thought you were threatening him. Assuming someone would invest his troops in his external positions is often a bad bet.

I love the Mutualism between Pete and Black. Both getting harassed by the rest while trying to keep to themselves😂. Yellow dedicating their life mission to ruin Green while Red wanting a "Friendly" relationship with Black while also wanting to be the only one with a bonus😂.

That separated bonus just never made sense. Seeing the board you have and the fact that it wasn’t designed to have bonuses and those three are the same color because they don’t touch, I’m thinking it’s likely someone at SMG was given a picture of the map to recreate it and misunderstood the map.

To be fair to yellow, you did block them in with a 7 in Denmark. It was either throw their big stack at your largest army for no real reason or try for Russia which was undefended almost... Made sense in my eyes...

I played risk on the board for the game Diplomacy. It was very close to what Europe advanced is now. Had to divide some of the larger territories and had to create the cards, but it made for a great game.

To add to that Q&A answer at the end, you can calculate and place troops so that it is impossible for the bad players to hurt you in many cases. Keep track in your head how many troops they should have (if playing Fog), how many troops they should get next turn (factoring in the potential for a set), and then defend your territories accordingly. Don't attack into someone who might set and return the blow to you. Try to be a good neighbor up until the moment where it is opportune to strike at the opponent, and in some cases be a bad neighbor immediately in order to weaken them if you know they can't meaningfully retaliate (especially in Capital games).

You should try this map with true random, fog, and blizzards. Great fun!

Not video related but i calculated the probabilities for set on 3 and set on 4: p(So3) = 40% p(So4) = 80% There are a total of 5!/(3!*2!) = 10 unique combinations for having 3 cards. 4 of these resemble a set on 3: 3 of one kind (3 combinations) or one of each kind (1 combination) -> 4/10 = 40% Do the same for set on four: there are 6!/(4!*2!) = 15 unique combinations. 3 of these resemble not having a set on four: having 2 different kinds of cards each 2 times. So the chance of that is 3/15 = 20% which makes the chance of having a set on four 80%. Tbh i wondered what these probabilities were and calculated them out of curiousity, would‘ve guessed the chance for set on 3 is way lower than 40%, but for set on 4 i actually guessed 80% without calculating it.

2:46 why do it that way? Why not have that be the north, the italy, and the spain bonuses just make them like 2, 3 and 2 or something? just small potatoes. It's weird when maps make bonuses that you could never reasonably hold, I understand tough middle position ones, look I still think classic world should split asia in two. I'm glad europe advance has just dethroned this one, but there are a couple of world maps that could dethrone the classic map i feel like. But it hasn't so it's what it is. 4:58 fascinating, I like hearing a bit about the history of the meta, the shift from bad neighbor to good neighbor, and it doing things like this, CHANGING which maps got played, that's wild. 9:00 so this is just a shit-show now. 9:52 dude that last map, the Bohus, was a REAL game. not just a MMM showcase, I mean, like a real, into the grit beautiful game. I really dig seeing all these new maps, or at least I really used to to spice it up, but these days I just stare down the barrel of the two maps you play and just look for the interesting plays, blizzards also really help mix stuff up. I also think about how the company who made this should probably do better, but I doubt they will. 12:01 "I don't trust you at all. I am going to feed your kill." Pete, I love this, what a line. What a line that makes sense in a bad neighbor environment. 21:12 i'm laughing all the way to the bank, this shit is terrible, but in the best possible way, it's just a clown-show and it gives me a glimpse at bad neighbor europe.
