Thank you so much for this. Board 1, I’m not sure I fully understand the comment “I played a low club, not the ten, so that if partner had 4 clubs he would know to keep going” ? How might the 10 change partner’s play ? Thanks again. So many interesting insights on how to reason and deduce on biding and play etc.
Partner knew I was balanced. What I was trying to say is that if I lead a low club partner would know declarer had a singleton ace anyway and could duck and I wouldn't have wasted my ten yet.
Board 6 - You initially spent time talking about developing spades [8 of them], before switching to develop hearts [9 of those]. I initially only considered hearts because of the length. Why did you first focus on spades?
It is a balance of timing and what you need for the suit to set up for extra tricks. Hearts you need an accurate finesse and the suit to break, spades you just need the suit to break. However there is also the element of timing where how many times do we expect to get in. Hearts we might be able to set up with only one entry and then get back in to enjoy them. Spades we need to knock out two cards so regain the lead twice and then enjoy the spades.
I also went down on 8 with the same line. I also thought I should have ruffed with the Q on the third club, but hindsight is always 20-20, what is the right way to play it?
1. I managed +150 and got 100% without doubling. I attacked spades first instead of clubs and that goaded declarer into a misplay, although why it is a misplay is not clear to me. 3. My CHO screwed me here. I wanted no part of 2S so I tried to sign off in 3D but I was placed in 4S. 8. I guess I won the coin flip here. I finessed in trump, you didn't.
Board 8: You say: "If you flip the heart honors...". Well East refused to overruff the fourth spade. This is not savage but proper play with the king of hearts. However, would East do that with the jack instead? Admittedly ruffing the club king low could have been right if East held 98 doubleton in hearts, but I think that is against the odds
@@BridgeWithPete Of course there are instances where it is right to overruff with the master trump for various reasons, but usually it is not. A trump promotion can not be a sensible reason here, since there are only clubs left to lead from dummy, which will induce a trump promotion anyway.
