I love the idea from Pokemon Origins that all the gym leaders are actually packing full aggro teams and choose fewer and weaker Pokemon of theirs depending on how many badges the trainer taking on the gym has. It makes perfect sense because having most trainers in the country being more powerful than any gym leaders would be really weird, and it makes it so that any new trainer starting their journey wouldn't have to travel all the way to a specific town to start their gym challenge.

I like how he calls Cilan, Chili, and Cress "The monkey boys".

It’s always been my head canon that the gym leaders are all equally strong, they just keep 8 different teams that they switch out based on how many badges the challenger has. A similar thing would apply to the other gym trainers but they wouldn’t have multiple teams, the leader just decides who you challenge based off your badges and gyms have a wide range or skill level with their trainers so there’s always enough to make a series of obstacles for the challenger.

Reminds me in origins that Brock only fought red with 2 Pokemon because he didn't have a badge

This is what I’d love to see in a future game; the ability to challenge gym leaders on any order you want, opening new areas and scaling the others appropriately. Not entirely open world, but very close to it conceptually.

15:17 This is a bit nitpicky but Cryogonal is WAY too strong for a first gym. The average base stat total for the ace of each gym leader is 373 (including Hala). Cryogonal’s BST is 515 which is crazy high. I know this is just a hypothetical but that’s insane. Great vid tho

Honestly I hope they decide to change up gyms based on your badge count in later games. It makes sense for gyms to have these sorts of teams because it isn't like every trainer lives in pallet town. What if fighting wake before maylene gives maylene a medicham instead of meditite for example.

Looks like the gem leaders have been taken down a peg. What if someone made a rom hack that made the first gym leaders the last ones with high stat evolved pokemon and all the last gym leaders the first with tier 1 pokemon? That would be quite interesting.

This is actually an interesint concept in itself. It always kinda depends on when would the trainer start. Such thing was brought up in the Pokemon Origins saga, when Brock was shown to have multiple Pokemon and he was choosing Pokemon to battle Red with based on the number of Badges Red had (which was 0 at the time) as Michael brought up in his video

18:44 I believe giving Milo an Applin instead of Gossifleur would be nice. Instead of aving a repeat line, we would have the 2 new grass pokemons, and Applin line is used in the later battles and has quite a lot of weaknesses so it would be a perfect pick.

If you let him go it acts like a normal game from then on, but with some extra dialogue covering the choice you made. If you turn him in, though, you go through the region, but without Rocket. Everywhere something used to happen with them, it doesn’t. Until you bring local thugs out of the woodwork, and this new Neo-TR becomes the main villians

I personally would give Valarie a Flabébé/Floette instead of a swirlix since it would give her a strong front line imo. every other gym are perfect and i love how you give respect to the johto gym leader by adding johto pokemon in their kanto ish pokemon team. Murkrow could also be a good bird pokemon to add on Falkner's team! :)

For the Paldea gym leaders, taking Terastallization into account: Katy: Nymble, Tarountula, Teddiursa (unchanged) Brassius: Smoliv, Capsakid, Bonsly/Sudowoodo (not a lot of Gen 9 Grass-type options, so Petilil is out.) Iono: Magnemite, Wattrel, Misdreavus (while associated with Bellibolt, Bellibolt is too strong, and Tadbulb is too weak. Magnemite is a decent pick even if she only ends up with one Gen 9 Pokémon, since it's very prominent as part of her design. It also balances nicely, with a Pokémon that's super weak to Ground, and one that's immune to it. A great way to teach the player about defensive utility, since Electric Tera removes all weaknesses if something has Levitate.) Kofu: Wiglett, Clauncher, Crabrawler (all Pokémon he uses the evolutions of, even if Clawitzer is rematch-only) Larry: Lechonk, Tandemaus, Staravia (He doesn't use the former two or their evos, but the Normal-types in Paldea are a bit limited and he has to have at least one Gen 9 Pokémon. Staravia would be his ace, and Dudunsparce is way too strong, but Dunsparce would be an okay pick to replace one of the two non-aces.) Ryme: Greavard, Bramblin, Dreepy, Toxel (a tricky one since she's a double battle gym leader. I decided to go with Pokémon that fit her theme and things she's said about raising the dead-hence Dreepy- but that are weaker to make up for there being four of them, even if she doesn't use the Dreepy or Bramblin lines. Toxel is a weak ace but it still fits her theme, as Toxtricity is too strong.) Tulip: Flittle, Girafarig, Floette (tricky since her association with Farigiraf means I can't easily remove Girafarig, even if it's a bit strong.) Grusha: Cetoddle, Frigibax, Skiddo/Varoom (all fit with his theming. Frigibax chosen over Snom or Cubchoo for the sake of variety. The ace was the hardest to choose, but it would be either Skiddo, for the mountain theme, or Varoom, for the extreme sports angle, even if a stretch. It could also be a way to teach the player that Terastallization can work as a defensive maneuver even if the Pokémon doesn't learn attacking moves of that Type. Swablu was too underwhelming as an ace, and Altaria was too strong. I'm leaning towards Skiddo though.)

Other choices I had in mind: -Whitney: Miltank and Aipom, since Aipom was also introduced in Gen 2 and she used an Ambipom. -Norman: Slakoth and Zigzagoon, since he lent a Zigzagoon to Wally and has a Linoone. -Wallace: Luvdisc and Barboach, since he is shown with a Whiscash. -Candice: Snorunt, Snover, and Sneasel, since she uses it more often than Piloswine and it also evolves into a Gen 4 Pokémon. -Olympia: Slowpoke and Espurr. -Opal: Togetic and Milcery. This is also balanced in my opinion. -Piers: Stunky and Galarian Zigzagoon. -Raihan: Goomy and Duraludon, though Duraludon needs to be underleveled (level 6-12, maybe). (I originally wrote underleveled Vibrava, but then I forgot none of Raihan's Pokemon would be Gen 8) -Hapu: Alolan Diglett, Trapinch, and Mudbray. Extras: -Mustard (former fighting gym leader): Mienfoo and Kubfu/Clobbopus. Trial Captains: -Ilima: Eevee and Yungoose, 3rd would be Alolan Ratata or Smeargle. -Lana: Chinchou and Dewpider, 3rd is Shellder. -Kiawe: Fletchinder and Salandit/Alolan Marowak, but if it's Alolan Marowak, it needs to be underleveled, 3rd is Growlithe. Salandit is a Pokemon that appears in his trial. -Mallow: Phantump and Steenee, 3rd is Morelull. -Sophecles: Underleveled Charjabug and Togedemaru, 3rd is Magnemite. -Acerola: Shuppet and Sandygast, 3rd is Gastly. -Mina: Jigglypuff and Cutiefly, 3rd is Snubull or Mime Jr..
