The problem of evil--and especially suffering--is often considered the most powerful argument against the existence of an all-powerful all-good, all-loving God. I am a father of a son and a daughter and everyday I tell them that I love them so they can be sure that despite of my imperfections, I can love too. So many already said just what I was feeling. You are a spiritual father for me. You where the first in my life to shatter the fear that I couldn't love science and intellectual pursuits and Catholicism at the same time. And I can't put into words just how important and forming that has been for me. Then I find out you also struggled with dyslexia as I always have. That just cemented the place in my heart for you. Thank you for being a great role model for me and for many.

Good on Chris Check for his advice to Jimmy! You can never be a good apologist on this issue without showing some sympathy/empathy/heart. Great to see Jimmy be so vulnerable. Only makes his message more effective/persuasive.

Jimmy almost gets there but the real question is "Can we trust God with all of this suffering?". And because God encoded himself into humanity and willingly suffered and died on a cross, it means at the very least, God UNDERSTANDS our suffering. But Jesus was also resurrected. He defeated suffering and death! We have a God that has shown us that he has both partaken in our suffering AND defeated it.

God Never allows evil of any kind to happen as it clearly states at James 1:13: “When under trial, let no one say: ‘I am being tried by God.’ For with Evil things God CANNOT be tried, nor does himself try anyone.”

That’s not true. Adam and Eve … expelled because they did wrong. The flood of Noah, purging of evil. Not all the tribes of Israel followed God Sodom and Gomorrah … destroyed because no one was good Wrath of God is him allowing people to suffer the consequences of their actions. Humanity poisoning the planet and exploiting it today is allowed by God. When cancer rates go up because of all the nuclear and chemical waste we have caused … that’s a consequence of how we treated the world even if it’s kids who get cancer from these toxins. When people hurt others for money and greed … that’s another consequence of our actions that we caused which God allows.

Love of God isn't really freely chosen, though. It's done under duress, under the threat of eternal conscious torment -- non-functional pain forever -- for not 'freely' choosing to love God, or for failing to fully repent of your sins, or merely for failing to produce the fruit He expects from you based on the talents He loaned you, or simply not being baptized.

If God exist why is Pope Francis the Destroyer as Prophesied to be the last Pope, and Catholic believe maybe the Prophecy will be wrong for the first time. If there be a Holy Spirit and followers listening do you really think the Holy Spirit would put your soul at risk by having you follow the Destroyer of the Catholic Church. Get out !!!!! And be baptized to the Holy Spirit and start listening to logic.
