Handsworth is a suburb situated in Northwest Birmingham, England. This video nostalgia takes you back during the Victorian/Edwardian era when Handsworth was a fashionable rural location for the wealthy families of Birmingham. Discover Soho House and its rich owner Matthew Boulton. Meet his two business partners James Watt and William Murdock at the Soho Factory and St Mary’s Church where the three of them are resting. Walk around Handsworth Wood and take a look at the reminiscences of a great medieval past.

I was born in Handsworth as were all my children, lived in Douglas Road and Leyton Road, Loved the place really nice place to live until the 70's, pity things have to change, I moved in 1978.

Ha ha great video I grew up in the 70,s in Handsworth Wood and I used to deliver papers around Coopers Rd Cherry Orchard and went to Cherry Orchard Primary so it was really interesting to see the streets where I grew up.

As someone who lived in Handsworth wood until 2010 don’t let these enchanting pictures fool you. it’s now a slum area .

I was astounded to see that the Murdoch cottages are still there - they took down the Holte Alms houses and some wonderful old cottages just off lozels road and they always replace them with such crap. Thank you for all your hard work and research. You Brummy treasure.

Do you think it has changed?…I’m born and bred Handsworth but moved to Bath I’m thinking places remain fundamentally the same...it’s people’s perception that change.

Nice video, I grew up in Handsworth and hung around with mates in Hunters Rd Villa Cross. Just a shame Handsworth is now associated with drugs, gangs and violence...

I was born in Hansworth, 1941, lived there till I was 8, but can still remembe some of those impressive houses. Loved the video, but sorry, had to turn off the repetative musak.

Thankyou …Handsworth is the sum of many parts yes there is poverty ……but I now live in one of the wealthiest areas in the country and no we don’t have litter but the poverty of spirituality is the price paid.I loved growing up in Handsworth I miss the craziness.…There is an old saying you can get the girl out of the ghetto, but you can’t get the ghetto out of the girl.💋
