It’s funny how often non melanated people don’t understand the pain and experience of melanated people and then try make everything joke about them afterwards
I would rather a creative succeed or fail on their own merit rather than them being told what to make. I still haven't forgotten how that power that be ruined Joss Whedon's actual vision for the 1992 Buffy The Vampire film by making changes to his screenplay.
Studios need to put a clause in every actor's contract: "You must clear every social media post regarding the movie with us. If not, you will pay for your stupidity."
“I’ve never seen anything so offensive and degrading!” The Wicked cast and crew: “Shut up Cynthia! Your overreaction is costing us millions of dollars!”.
I highly doubt that. More than likely because they're all in the same Hollywood bubble they're calling her brave! She's speaking out about the issues that actually matter! We're just toxic fans and we're a minority of course. Even though we somehow cost them millions and make it so their movies are failures. Yes must be a small minority.
Big egos in Hollywood are nothing new. The difference is that back in the day, celebrities had public images to maintain that required an air of mystique. As such, even the biggest egotists had the discipline to keep their mouths shut and not say something that would damage that image. As the saying goes, it is better to keep your mouth closed and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt. Nobody in Hollywood seems to know that saying. Perhaps they should.
Back in the day, it was the studios and PR who controlled what celebs said in public. The problem with social media is that the celebs now have direct access to the audience, and the opportunity to show us all just how dumb and out of touch they really are.
Imagine the MOST offensive thing to ever happen to you is someone make a fan edit of poster of a movie you’re in that is more accurate to the broadway show in which your movie is based on. The mental gymnastics here is immense
It’s so weird to see multiple actors doing these “Tumblr” mentality attacks. There was nothing wrong about the fans wanting a movie poster that reflected the theater poster. It was done with love and taste. But somehow it became twisted into whatever that actress was thinking when she attacked the fans
To call it "the most offensive thing (she's) ever seen"...she's either horribly overexaggerating or she's led a very, very sheltered life. Some people are just desperate to be victims that they will make a big deal outta nothing,🤦🏿♂️
If Wicked fails to make a profit, we all know who to blame. Side note: the fanmade poster is better than the original. The original looks boring while the fanmade one shows more emotion.
It used to be Never meet your Heroes, but now there are no Heroes because we know so much about celebrities and their mundane experiences from Twitter and other dumb sites.
The actress is so reaching to paint herself as a "victim". Also it shows how poor and actress she is. A good one would strive for the viewers seeing the character not herself. This one just screams "me, me, me!". Not interested in seeing this movie, even though I do enjoy musicals.
Even in the ads for the movie she's just like "Me! Me! Me!" I saw a target ad for wicked and in the ad this guy tries to sing a high note (badly) then the actress (can't even remember her name lol) goes "that's MY line" and then sings the note perfectly
Imagine if Pepsi or McDonald's did this with the products they tried to create that failed. You don't like crystal clear Pepsi? Bigot! You don't like the big and tasty? Sexist! If we don't like your product make a product we like. It's your job to sell your product to us. It is not our job to buy your product. And if you think it is we will never buy your product.
The movie has already been made, so all you really have to do is make it through the press tour without absolutely screwing up. Apparently that’s really hard nowadays.
Well it is when you hate the little people that you could also call your customers. When you hate the people these things are made for it's kind of hard to hide that.
I get these actors aren't business people, but the studios are and should be telling these people not to attack their audience. Unfortunately, the studios have decided to do that themselves so they don't have to take responsibility for their failures.
@@gloriathomas3245 It's a very small minority, it's not a issue and that is the issue these days. People making a massive issue out of something that the majority has no part in.
I think things are changing and Hollywood doesn't seem to know how to keep up with it. They have been out of touch on many levels for a few years already.
Things changed and now they're changing again and Hollywood is still two steps behind. They never caught up to celebrities having way too much exposure. And now the audience is getting sick and tired of that exposure. Hollywood doesn't know how to deal with the fact that they are no longer controlling their actors and that's starting to hit them in the wallet.
Wow, I used to think that war victims had is rough, until Cynthia Erivo was “erased” off a fan made movie poster. Now that’s what hardship looks like! …srs though this is why people don’t like Hollywood. No matter how good the film might be, people don’t want to give their money to obnoxious, narcissistic actors (it just sucks for all the hard working people also involved with the movie, who have their time and effort wasted because the main actor is such a turn off for the audience)
There will always be entertainers in the world. Whether it be your uncle who can tell a really great story or the small studio that's willing to make a game or a movie that the audience actually wants. We don't need these mega corporations in huge industries. We did a hundred years ago when it first started and things were beyond expensive. But you can make a movie studio quality on the cheap nowadays. And people are doing it. Look at Terrifier. $2 million, and thats its big budget, and I guarantee you it's going to make bank!
Ms. Erivo doesn't seem to realize that they are still using her face, it's still her nose, her lips (re-colored and shaped in a smirk, but still her lips and no one elses), her chin. Are the Eyes important? to a Performance? yes, in a poster? not necessarily, especially if you are doing anything with them except blankly staring out. I think she resents it more because it shows what a half-assed poster the unaltered one was, she's not performing on the poster, she should have had the smirk and maybe a mischievous look in her eyes, that would have worked better. Also, she's playing a character, her Character is on the poster not her, if she can't separate herself from the character she needs help
It legitimately looks like Ariana is telling her that two plus two equals four. In the original poster it looks like the good witch is telling the wicked witch some juicy gossip.
I read the Hollywood Reprter article you are referring to. I agree. I think it's a flawed argument. Just because a project is high-pressure or risky doesn't absolve those involved from responsibility for poor execution. In fact, the decision to forego test screenings and ignore audience expectations, as mentioned in the article, shows a lack of due diligence, which ultimately contributed to the film's failure. Even strong visionaries like Christopher Nolan and Tarantino use test audiences. Sometimes just to shape pacing.
To be fair Christopher Nolan and Tarantino make movies for their audience. Joker 2 was for the director. That's it. It was his dislike of the audience on display. He can claim that wasn't his intent but his words before the sequel and the sequel itself would disagree with him.
It's really a shame that these Hollywood idiots don't understand that we are stronger. For my part, I don't go to films that have one or more repulsive actors in them. And I can't do anything with these same old "Christopher Street Day" films that Hollywood apparently only produces!
Hollywood doesn't understand that we don't need them anymore for movies or shows. There're other markets putting out far better stuff and independent movies. Hell, Terrifier 3 gave the fans what they wanted and has been a massive success.
@@idiot_city5444which was successful. You may not like it but millions of people did literally making it a success. It's not about what you like or what the Creator likes it's about what the masses like. And the masses like Terrifyer 3. You must live in Hollywood or be some kind of entertainer.
Most of the negativity surrounding new Hollywood releases could’ve been avoided by a very simple thing called a nondisclosure agreement. Simply stated, the stars keep their opinions and thoughts to themselves, do not attack the audience, and do not do anything that would negatively affect the box office receipts. If they do, they lose their paycheck. NDA’s have been the norm in a large number of businesses for a long time now, why can’t Hollywood be the same?
We need a catchy media friendly term to describe the other side of this coin, the toxic creators and actors. The term has to be really catchy to overshadow "toxic fans". For now I'm going with "Toxic artists" unless someone has one that is just better. Feel free to workshop!
I'm so done with people saying "we have superhero movie fatigue, or "insert type" movie fatigue" as some articles show. NOO, we have awful movie fatigue. Give us a comic faithful superhero movie and we'll make it a success, WE THE PEOPLE will make it a success, base it on a popular comic too... Don't bring us a movie based on Safe Space from the new mutants and call it a comic faithful movie XD
Hollywood wants to control the audience. It wants to decide what is popular and what isn't. And it really pisses them off that we're not being led around by the nose. If something's bad we don't watch it. And instead of blaming themselves for making a bad product they blame us for not being the good little doggies were supposed to be!
@4:37 My aunt is a HUGE fan of Wicked and even she said she's basically scowling and not smiling. She didn't like it. But she loved the fan edit. My aunt is the wokest woman I know and it's kinda funny how they eat their own. 🤷🏾♂️
In the movie poster she looks like she's being told that 2 + 2 equals four and in the theatrical poster she looks like she's getting some of the most juiciest gossip I've ever heard. There's little to no comparison. Also why are her lips green?
The only movie I can think of that might do well may be Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Introducing a very beloved character as popular as Sonic, plus the new game coming out this week featuring a campaign for said character, plus the good fan will by what started off the film series' success in the first place. And not to mention, the fact that they are saying the right things for the film, and the fact that no one who is part of this movie is saying shit on social media, is giving me high hopes that it will do good in the box office. I know that I'm going to see it opening night.
I wonder how many pats on the back she got from her peers, friends, fans, etc. Besides getting paid, I really think validation from their circles is all they care about.
Same And we no longer live in the day and age of all publicity is good publicity. If I hear that the star of your show is an asshole I'm not going to watch your show and I'm going to tell other people not to watch it too. And if I can't remember why I remember a show or a movie or whatever I can look it up. This isn't the 1950s anymore where we can't look things up on the dime.
I only blame myself for being a fan of anything. Because Hollywood will always ask if I'll pay for a movie ticket? I enjoy going to a place to hang out with other fans, but I can already do that on RU-vid, for free. RU-vid, Netflix, RedBox, or any movie stream service is also safer than movie theaters, music concerts, or any large gathering of people because I never know what crazy people are thinking, but RU-vid has the "Report" and "Block" buttons
I honestly wish my life was as perfect as hers, where my only problem seems to be somebody made a fan poster of my face. She clearly has no idea of what real life problems is. Anyways, on another note, I saw The Wild Robot and literally cried. What a spectacular film. It's animation is beyond spectacular, it tugged on all my heart strings, it made me laugh and the ending was bad perfect and unfair (those who knows will know). It's a solid 9.8 out of 10. How this is only now on it's way to $200 million is absolutely pathetic. This should have been a billion dollar movie. One of the best I have seen this entire year
Very sad with how Folie à Deux turned out. It had such potential and shouldn't have been a musical. Im almost embarrassed for putting such faith in Todd Phillips. I still loved Gaga's performance with the little we saw of her. I blame Todd more than anyone for the failure of this sequel. But, I can’t wait for Moana 2 and Wicked. Of course there's an issue though with the actress being offended. The fan made edit looks better and actually resembles the original poster accurately. Hollywood really is battling it's own audience which makes no sense at all.
I'm still not sure if Joker 2 is a *good* movie or not (leaning towards "no"), but am with you that it *could have been*! Honestly it could have been better if they had just not released it as a "Joker" or "DC-verse" movie. Have it out there as an indie movie about Arthur Fleck, since that's what it was (minus the indie budget and all), and as it never fails to remind us: Arthur was never really "The Joker" in the first place. Some people still would have disliked it, for various reasons, but they might not hate it with a fury or consider it a slap in the face.
The first Joker was a copy and paste of Taxi Driver. When they announced a sequel most people expected it to flop because there wasn't a Taxi Driver 2 to copy. Todd and Joaquin made a bad movie for a paycheck nothing to do with audience.
Yep yep the problem is studios not putting their foot down for all social media post from their actors regarding the movie, it is same for lucas films, marvel studios and so on, too much personal feelings and politics getting wrapped up in the product.
Poor privileged celebrity Cynthia Erivo, multiple award-winning singer-songwriter on Broadway, TV, and movies, red carpet attendee of multiple movie premieres, award ceremonies, and galas, with her face plastered on movie posters, news sites, and across social media: truly the biggest victim of erasure 2024. 😞
These people forgot that it's never about them, but only about the audience. In Ancient Rome actors were more reviled than criminals and spat on in the streets. Let's bring it back.
@@sammysstopmotionoas2004. You saw how many fictional gingers get painted black? Would make good amv material, but quite absurd! You're serious about this?
western entertainment continues to fall, while entertainment from japan, korea, india england, etc are being embrassed more and more from people who just want to be entertained and spend their money wisely.
If I was the director, I would of made the 3rd movie begin with joker waking up from a horrible nightmare. I would also continue the story right where the first film ended.
Hollywood has been riding the "Wizard of Oz" train for over 80 years. Don't care if the Broadway version was a hit. Make something new. Ariana Grande has 1/100th the talent of Judy Garland. To get around it, use an existing property to mask that fact. And then, because it's modern day Hollywood, go on a pissed off, "woe is me" my feelings are hurt tirade because, reasons... Best and consistent content in the last decade has come from small and independent studios. The 'Terrifier' clown kicked the Jokers ass. Good. But alas, the suits at the major studios will never learn!
Cynthia behaves like Rachel Zegler. I could understand a bit of Zegler's behavior she's young and naive, but Cynthia is the same age as my ballet teacher, and acts like if she was in her teens when is almost forty, what is the point to still acting as a spoiled little girl? And ironic, Ariana Grande who is younger than her, acted more rational and mature.
It's crucial for the industry to adopt a mature perspective and consider the broader implications of their decisions. The goal is to attract audiences to their films, and without careful strategy, they risk financial loss and diminished business prospects. Ultimately, accountability lies within their own actions.
Yeah this lady ought to be thankful to God for the blessings in her life and that she gets to do the work that she does. me personally, I would have been completely flattered and tickled pink to see a fan take that kind of time to do something like this fan did. Perhaps this lady belongs on some assembly line somewhere in some factory somewhere rather than where she is
One thing people inside the youtube bubble. There is a big world outside of this RU-vid bubble. Most people who don't live inside this bubble. They never heard of this so called controversy. Nor do they care. Contexts is everything when we look things. Hopefully this movie is good.
If that were true Joker 2 would have been successful don't you think? This isn't just on RU-vid. It's also in entertainment magazines. Which a lot of people who don't watch RU-vid read. It's also on the news. Which a lot of people who don't watch RU-vid or read entertainment magazines watch.
The movie wasn't made for me, so I was never going to see it anyways. But if I had grandchildren, I wouldn't take them to see it either. I'm so tired of supporting these studios and actors who hate me.
When someone has good intentions and then the lady takes it as an insult... like, come on. Why do you have to make it about you or about something stupid, cant you see it was suppose to be a compliment? God these people think every little thing is offensive.
There were also Boarderlands and Megalopolis which were major flops before Joker 2. Hollywood is full of toxic narcisists. Not the fans are toxic, Hollywoods elites are.
au contraire!let them burn 100s of mill dollars on mediocre films that have their message for us! Love it or be a bigot!hopefully it will be a shoestring budget movie like Joker that was made for 55 mill dollars and earned over 1 bill dollars!only ones earning from the failures are the actors! I kinda like it, though not when they then attack fans!
Happy Trick-or-treat Tuesday! Your quote just reminded me there was a Harold and the Purple Crayon movie that was released this year. Not that you can erase crayons. I think that guy can under there can though....gotta go! Frankendoodle is chasing me! Happy Halloween "hands" Hype, JesterBell!
Studios "Go see our movie!" Me "I'm Gonna!" Studios " Why aren't we making money?" Me "I saw the movie and it was really bad" Studios "You didn't like it because you're a racist and sexist" Me "I'm downloading Frost Wire now"
Alexia Khadime should've been cast as movie!Elphaba. Checks the boxes the studio wants checked AND gives us an underrated Elphaba from the West End side of things
When I first heard of this, it reminded me of how Pedro Pascal threw a hissy about his face being covered by the Mandalorian helmet. So Disney wrote it so that he didn't have to wear the helmet. It's the classic Hollywood actor wanting to see his/her face everywhere. I don't think it's quite the same thing as activists who want to pre-emptively attack fans--though they're still all narcissists. I think the Wicked actress has a diva complex. The activist culture just gives her an additional shield from criticism.
I definitely understand Phillips not wanting to takes notes from WB and JG due to their history lately handling everything DC. WB has shown far too many times they can’t be trusted with the property and it should be sold off
Plus anyone celebrating JG running DC and then trying to criticize creators saying their giving the finger to fans is extremely hypocritical 😅 JG constantly gives them the middle finger to the fans with how he makes his movies and does comedy, and gave a huge middle finger to fans when he came in and chose to start over DC but cherry pick the talent he wanted to keep when large portions of the fandom were clamoring for DCEU to continue after ZSJL.
And the theater owners are also getting screwed by these morons. They trust the studios by allocating a lot of space and end up holding the bag when no one goes to see the movies.
Hahaha this is so dumb. What a self centered goofy little toad. Hollywood A listers get to demand things in their contract because they draw in the audience. She doesn't.
Nope and it will happen. Hollywood still acts like it's 1985, we don't need them for shows or movies anymore. Other markets and independent filmmakers are putting out far better stuff.
The entitlement is infuriating from these titanically egotistical, barely talented whiners. They take something that already exists, created by someone elese and made great by a loyal fanbase and then think that everyone should bend everything about it to suit their ego's. I would not work with one of these people.
