I don't think my cats owner has the stomach, to feed them whole prey! I had difficulty, just watching the video. Boiled meat is as far as we have gotten. I did add some raw ground beef into their food. MIxed results, so far.

I could Never give my cat real animal food. I prefer just giving him Freeze dried food.

I FINALLY got my 3 year old to transition from Tiki dry food to Instincts freeze dried raw. He won't eat the Instincts frozen raw food yet, or wet food but I had success with the raw freeze dried. Thank you Jess!

Thanks for this, I am going to try this too. I like a variety of proteins for my cats. But my budget has to keep it in check. While I love the convenience of commercial raw frozen or freeze dried. It has a cost, I would like to mix the meals, some days whole prey (or for now to start the ground whole prey).

OK, cat/mouse story two: Before my husband passed we decided to sell everything and travel full-time in our truck camper fishing, hiking, and seeing remote areas. We had two cats who were about 8 years old at the time. One is now 17 and the other passed last year at 16 years of age. His name was Ivan. Anyway, even though Ivan was a housecat, he was a fierce mouser. Living in the country occasional mice would sneak in and he'd dispatch them immediately. He would sit in front of a cabinet growling and switching his tail until we opened the door and that was that. Now, I really didn't want him eating them so I took them away from him. One day he caught one and when I approached him to take it he growled at me ran off and backed himself into a corner. He was holding the mouse in his mouth by the head and growling and glaring at me defying me to even try taking his prize. Not sure if you've ever watched an owl devour a mouse but that's what Ivan did. Down that mouse went and as the tail was the final part to disappear, I just stood there gaping stupidly at him. It was over in a second. No playing with it. No chewing daintily at it. Nope just down the hatch whole. I'll never forget it and I never tried to take his mice again. Being these were wild field mice, we dutifully kept up on having his feces checked for worms.

Great video. Even though some may find watching Jericho demonstrate, I found it highly informative watching his reactions. Although I've feed a raw species appropriate diet to my pets for over 40 years, I've never fed whole prey, which, I heartily agree, is best. I'm going to try raising some mice for them. Coming from a ranching background I am familiar with humane euthanization and this way I can make sure they are fed a healthy diet, treated with kindness, and dispatched quickly and humanely. The rub will come with odor control. Raising mice while living and traveling full-time in a truck camper is going to be challenging.

I've been giving the cats some raw chicken here and there. They go completely bananas for it. Rox loves all food, but he loves raw chicken even more! Funny enough even though they eat wet, Sky completely refused ground raw chicken (I got that at the local pet shop, and had contacted the brand about the taurine content and never heard back), but she loves raw chicken chunks or raw meaty bones 🤷🏽‍♀️ she's just a wild cat by nature I suppose. (Then again that is probably what she was weened on by her mom as she was found at 7 weeks old) Right now we don't have the mental capacity to transition the cats, so we just occasionally feed raw when we can ❤

Just to confirm, the cat will be able to get ALL necessary nutrients in correct proportions from the (smallerish) whole prey? (Seems logical) Like, once transitioned, this would be it, no fuss, the end, hallelujah? What do you recommend in terms of switching up the types of meat (if that's actually necessary, nutrient profile wise)? And taking price into consideration too.

Have a couple cat/mouse stories for you, Jess. Story one: Years ago my late husband and I rescued 12 cats, all intact, from a relative who was moving and told us they were leaving the cats behind. So we gathered them up and caged them up in the barn for two weeks to acclimate them. Once released most decided to remain as barn cats, two moved into my husband's shop, three kittens were brought in as house cats, and one tough guy, named Boober, took up residence in our backyard. My husband built him a house and placed it on top of the rabbit runs so he could survey his territory. He was one bad boy and no one came into that yard without dealing with him -- even humans. Anyway, they were all great mousers and more than earned their keep. Boober caught a great deal of mice. We knew because he would only eat their heads leaving mouse bodies everywhere. Go figure. 🤔 PS: All were spayed and neutered putting an end to the kitten mill.

Will feeding whole prey with fur/feathers increase the occurrence of hairballs/puking? I’m not too worried about it with my tabby but my maine coon mix does get occasional hairballs.

I'm not interested in offering poor little baby chicks. That's not fair to the little chicks, can't do it. Ground quail or ground Turkey is better for me anyway, just didnt use Raw yet. Trying Instinct Raw nuggets first. Great video though.

With my 2 kittens who were 3 months old when I got them I fed them whole prey the very first meal and I only cut the chick in half. I did that for two days. I stopped because it was unnecessary because chewing is an innate ability. They pretty much instantly recognized it as food. But an older cat might not be as quick. One kitten started throwing up a few days in because he was eating his food too fast I think he also was stressing with the other cats eating so I started feeding him in portions instead and it stopped. But I feed him the entire prey now and haven’t had issues. And now that it’s getting nice I let them eat outside and choose where they wanna eat so they can be at peak raw cat while still being in my care

Contrary to most people, I actually LOVE seeing my cats consume a diet that is greatly improving their oral health, digestive health, coat health and greatly benefits their mental health as well. It's actually quite amusing to watch them play with their food and then crunch away. My kitties are transitioning to whole prey. They go bananas for chicks. So far they love chicks from ducks, quails, chickens, goose and turkeys. They are sourced from humane local places who already breed poultry for the farming industry, the little ones who end up as whole prey died of natural causes.

Does it say how these animals are euthanized? Are they frozen to death, co2, neck broken, I don't want my cat eating animals that could have poison in them
