Seriously, how isn't this on more people's radar? Trey Anastasio, Sarah Jarosz and Chris Thile backed by a killer house band. And playing a great Phish tune to boot. It doesn't get much better than this...
This song is pure heaven. It's honestly the first Phish song I heard while smoking a bowl with a guy who was there to support my band at Shippensburg college partying one night. We sat in his car smoking a bowl and he played me this and I loved it. I was in 11th grade then (circa 1999) and I am 40 now and just caught my 12, 13, and 14th Phish shows this weekend.
60's&70's were truly a Great time for music.Grateful Dead, Grateful Dawg it's all been leading us to this moment. Take the best and move ahead. The next Renaissance is upon us. Be glad you can attend.
What a fantastic performance. Must have watched a couple dozen times now. That little nod of approval Trey gives Sarah is magic. Truly love this everyone involved is spot on.
Yeah, he's reportedly been 100% clean (both drugs and alcohol) since his arrest in December 2006 and the 14-month Drug Court program he was put in. If you like his stuff from pre-breakup Phish, I HIGHLY recommend listening to the monster, instant classic 36-minute "Tweezer" from last week, on 12/30/19; the official Phish youtube channel has it up in 4k HDR. To me, starting around the 9 or 10-minute mark, the rest of that song is up there with some of the best improvised stuff I've ever heard. This past summer, there was also a documentary film ("Between Me and My Mind") released about him, his life, work/band, and how he was coping with one of his closest friends losing a battle with cancer
The sinner Jim Whitney I hear what your saying. That edge where creativity and intoxication meet is certainly a fascinating frontier most worthy of exploration.
All I have to say is I have been seeing Trey and Phish since 94. I grew up listening to Jerry and the dead. When Jerry passed I was living in the between era Jerry and Trey. I loved them both why??? Because they both love yes love just playing. They both know and knew they have a bigger purpose. But at the end of the day that just want to play… It’s there music , there souls keep playing and sharing…
Trey is one of the best guitarists that America has ever produced. Check out phish if you want wild stuff and check out his solo work if your want more chill stuff like this.
I search out every version of this song. Since Page and Trey did it on December , I associate it with the last weeks with my female dog. If I could I would….have taken away her pain.
Wow. This is beautiful. Trey is a genius and can play anything, but Sarah is the key to this song. Her harmonies add so much. I can see Trey having a side project in the future with a female vocalist (maybe Sarah?).
So, I can't say that I can tell if you are serious or not, but yes, Trey does (and has for a while) have a band (oddly enough called the Trey Anastasio band) and it has two female vocalist/instrumentalists, Jenifer and Natalie and they are both exceptional. They do an equally intense version of this song, with horns, that is worth seeking out. Not to downplay Sarah, who is stellar in every regard, but Trey definitely has the female co-vocalist thing covered.
little known fact, Trey and Sarah shared a shabby apartment for 13 days following this performance... strictly platonic mind you... jeez keep your mind out of the gutter man!
Trey has matured quite a lot. Nice bc I have matured with age too, I wonder how younger phans feel about a song like this. Can they appreciate how such Ana amazing song like this came to fruition?
It kills me when people bash Phish cause they're a "stoner band", this is a seriously great song and it builds so nicely. Hoist is an incredible album, too, there were tons of great guest musicians in the studio for that one.
Trey, You should sing Mock Song, its time...,,,,,, If you ~ could you would ~ see me as a lover and not "wicked", you'd understand my humor.(: Thanks for playing some zeppelin now my friend. Call it what you will Love you guys, Geoff
Andrew Meddaugh YES!!!! Such an important observation. It’s a sign that his maturation into a Master is blossoming along as it should. With time comes wisdom, and with wisdom comes the understanding of the power the presence of pure silence holds. Trey is walking his path into wisdom and mastery with a touching elegance. Bravo.
The Fact that Phish sings a tiny bit off Key when they harmonize makes them Phish and very Trippy/Unique but I think the sweetness she brings might be taking away from that unique sound
