Back in 1968, John Rowles scored his only two UK chart hits. This one peaked at #3 and dominated the charts for 18 weeks. A terrific song - if you don't know it, give it a listen - you'll be blown away. If you DO know it - well, listen again ... maybe you forgot how good it is.

I lost my mom in 2000. Never heard this song. Had Music Choice on and heard instrumental with this Title and looked it up and here I am. 3 1/2 yers of torture and brutality by CA due to the theft of my job. Linda

He did a really great job at translating it from the original French version by Michel Fugain. 1967. Beautifully done. My mom doesn’t speak French so I found this translated version to send her. It got the message across wonderfully. I like both the French and English versions equally

I didn't know this song at all; I first heard the melody years ago, when it was played at the conclusion of a semi-documentary on the life of actor William Holden, and I guess it got stuck in my memory. Then, this evening, it was played on my "Music Choice - Easy Listening" TV channel, so I researched & found this; glad I did! :-)

Many who listen to the song "If I only had time" think that John Rowles released the song (in 1968), but it is a cover ..... the original version of this song was made by singer Gene Pitney in 1962 ...

Actually the original was a French ballad (Je n'aurai pas le temps) which was written by Michel Fugain, Jack Fishman & Pierre Delanoë and sung & released by Fugain in 1967. John Rowles recorded the English translation and released it in Feb 1968. Gene PItney covered it as part of his She's A Heartbreaker album in the same year.

Michel Fugain made the original version in 1967 ... how many listened to this version in 1967? .... the song now has several covers (including in English) ..... but John Rowles' version remains a reference version ...
