This scene is so bittersweet because this is a perfect evening and a perfect moment while everybody is happy. But at this point of the movie we all know that they will never have such a moment again with Mia, her brother, her mom and her dad. This was really sad.

for me, this is the best scene of the movie.

My ex gf dragged me into the theater for this movie and i gotta say.. I was bawling my eyes out.

So when i first watched the movie this was the scene that touched me most. I don't even know when it was, but since then it's stuck in my head. I kept this idea of a 'thing', like this one moment where you feel most alive, where you feel just completely free and happy and like yourself. And i always thought it was this one day at the beach with some of my friends, beacause i desperately wanted such a moment and i was searching for it. I mean don't get me wrong, it was an awesome day, just not it. And then like two and a half years ago i think there it was. I was in a surfcamp and we had a session in the early morning. So we woke up at like six o'clock, there were still stars in the sky and all of us (like the 8 people in my surfteam) ate like half a sandwich to have enough energy for our sport. we had to take our surfboards to the beach, which was like a ten minute walk through the woods. And when we got there the sun started to rise. So we did our little warm up exercises and went into the ocean. I remember. Like I remember so clearly. The waves around me rolling towards the beach. Their sound and movement, kindly moving me. The clouds above us starting to slowly turn pink. So pretty with the blue of the sky. And my teammates trying to catch the waves. Falling inte the water, laughing, having fun... The waves weren't the greatest, but i felt so calm, so at ease with myself. Just good. After our session we had breakfast togheter, talking about nothing specific, but it felt so much like home. We always had to wash our dishes afterwars on the campingplace in the nature with wood and sun around us and to make it more fun we loudly played some music and sang togheter. I swear it felt infinite. Undescribable emotion. Now to the sad part. The same day, like two or three hours later i got a call from my mom. She told me my dad died the day before. It was heartwretching. I'm still not over it and i don't think i'll ever be able to completely get over it. I think that may be one of the reasons why this moment is so precious to me. It's probably the last time i was completely and fully happy, like not just for a moment, it's not like i don't have any fun in my life. It's just never been a real emotion again. Just a feeling for a short while. Maybe i'm gonna have feel something like that again in my future. I don't know. But for now, I'm just thankful i got to experience it, because i don't think everyone has that moment in their life. So for now i just hope this gets lost in the internet and maybe someone is going to find it one day and smile about the little moment i got to share. Hope everyone gets to experience it at least once.

Jeez when her brother and her parents show up together I was like....... So sad, family is everything!

When I watched this movie, I was afraid Mia was going to allow herself to die, because the lyrics for "Today" are suicidal (Can't live for tomorrow; tomorrow's much too long) (I wanted more than life could grant me)

The cello is rarely a solo instrument. Think of it more like a deep voice in the background of a main tune, and the main tune is usually on a piano or violin.

They could’ve made the sequel this year tbh it’s been years and in the second book, it had been 5 years since they last saw each other didn’t they? I may be wrong lmao it’s been 2 years since I last read it.

This scene is my problem with the movie, this song isn't about being hopeful or feeling happy. It's actually about depression and suicidal tendencies. Billy Corgan, the writer and vocalist of Smashing Pumpkins, said "I was really suicidal. I just thought it was funny to write a song that said today is the greatest day of your life because it can't get any worse".
