Slaughterhouse is a 2.1 Extreme Demon mega-collaboration created by IcEDCave, EndLevel, River, Iris, DrCuber, CDMusic, and Brittank88 and verified by spaceuk. It is a new version of IcEDCave's old impossible level of the same name, which he created out of dissatisfaction, as IcEDCave was ashamed of what the level was and that it was the only thing he felt that he was known for by the community. A possible version of the level was in the process of verification, which was a race between spaceuk, RaeveZ, Xanii, Trick, Photonic, and Zamasu. spaceuk won the race, verifying the level on October 24, 2021. The first two previews of Slaughterhouse were posted on IcEDCave's RU-vid channel in May-June 2020. These two previews have since been set to private by IcEDCave, but they were reuploaded on SKOE99's channel. IcEDCave took the audio for the level from a CS: GO montage, which confused because when people tried to find the song for the level, they would find the CS: GO edit of the song, go into the comment section, and spam variations of "WHO'S HERE FROM SLAUGHTERHOUSE!??!", etc. This led to IcEDCave privatizing the two previews of the level. He and EndLevel made a remastered version of the song, with the gunshot- and explosion sounds taken out and remade from scratch, except for the glitch sound at the end. IcEDCave also got permission to use the song from one of XVA's members. On August 18, 2020, a second-and-a-half preview of the level premiered on IcEDCave's RU-vid channel, with the new version of the song and botted gameplay by Xanii.[1] After the second-and-a-half preview, the level somewhat died down, with less progress made over time. This is because many of IcEDCave's other levels gained more traction, such as levels like Diamond Blade, Final Destination, and Hypnosis. Seemingly out of nowhere, on April 3, 2021, River uploaded his decorated part in the level.[2] Ten days later, IcEDCave would release the final preview of the level, showcasing CDMusic's final cube and then proceeding to show the numbers "4/30/2021."[3] indicating that the finished level would be released on April 30, 2021. As planned, the finished level premiered on April 30, 2021. Verification race Many players got to work on the level straight away. Top players would get considerably good runs on the level, with Kurumi getting runs of 0-20%, 30-50%, 58-74%, and 82-100%.[4] However, the level was too hard to be verified, with some stating the level was harder than unnerfed Silent clubstep. IcEDCave decided to nerf River's part in the published version of the level, but the level was still considered too difficult. IcEDCave decided to nerf the entire level down to a Top 5 Extreme Demon so the level could get verified and placed on the Demonlist. After a bit of time, IcEDCave finished nerfing the level and then had to obtain a verifier. His first thought was to ask Xanii, as he had just verified Sonic Wave Infinity, and he had achieved a run of 30-49% on the unnerfed version of Slaughterhouse a month earlier.[5] Xanii accepted the request and got to work on the level immediately.[6] However, Xanii quickly realized that the level felt too detached from his skillset, and he dropped it. Since Xanii had dropped the level, IcEDCave went to Twitter and asked the community if anyone wanted to verify the nerfed version of Slaughterhouse. Doggie had closely considered taking on the verification, so he responded to the tweet with "uhhhhhhhhhh."[7] After replying to IcEDCave's tweet, he would have some close consideration on whether he should verify the level or not. However, Doggie would conclude with the decision to take on Slaughterhouse, and just like Xanii, he got started immediately. He would quickly get a run of 49-60%,[8] and then 49-86% soon after.[9] However, it was a bit of time before he officially started the streaming process, as he wanted to beat other list Demons such as Plasma Pulse Finale, Paroxysm, and Altered Ascent first. Finally, after beating Altered Ascent, he would begin to stream Slaughterhouse. Doggie would quickly get some decent runs on the level, getting a run of 51% on Day 3 of playing the level (July 26, 2021).[10] This would later be featured in his first progress update video that he would upload on July 29, 2021.[11] However, due to a situation between IcEDCave and another player known as Lexy (involving their Extreme Demon collaboration known as "moment" and a handful of pornographic messages),[12] IcEDCave claimed to quit the game entirely. The result of this would be Doggie taking temporary ownership of the level and then a break from the verification. At this time, he stated that he would return to Slaughterhouse after completing his series known as the Extreme Demon Alphabet. Nevertheless, Doggie's complications would eventually have to lay off on verifying Slaughterhouse. Around this time, IcEDCave returned to the game and set a new verifier for the level. The new verifier was Cursed, who had stated that he would be taking a break from his verification at the time (Sakupen Circles) to verify Slaughterhouse. Doggie quote-retweeted Cursed's announcement and stated that he would be the backup verifier if Cursed decided to drop the level.[13] After Cursed picked up the level, all news surrounding the level went dead silent. No verification progress would be made for a long time. Due to this inactivity, IcEDCave decided to accelerate the verification process by making the Slaughterhouse verification a race, but as a new and harder Top 1 version, more similar to the unnerfed version of the level. On October 15, 2021, IcEDCave uploaded a video to his channel titled "SLAUGHTERHOUSE VERIFICATION NEWS."[14] In this video, he explained the minor details of what occurred after he uploaded the original showcase. He also explained the aforementioned verification race, with the list of competitors kept as private information to reduce the pressure of verifying publicly. However, spaceuk[15] and Xanii revealed they were chosen for the race on the same day. Trick revealed himself the next day, along with Photonic and Zamasu a few days later. The verifiers all made fast progress on the level, although it was clear that spaceuk was ahead based on his progress on the level. On October 24, 2021, spaceuk verified the level after one death at 92%. To get the level rated, IcEDCave decided to replace the song (which was previously LiquidBLUE - Synkon and only picked because it had a song ID of 66666) as the replacement song did not sync well, and this would affect RobTop's decision to rate it. It was changed to NIGHTkilla - For the Taking on October 27, 2021. However, this only lasted a few days before IcEDCave changed it once more to Tennobyte - Fly Away on October 29, 2021, for better sync. On November 3, 2021, the level was placed at #1 on the Demonlist, above Firework. This decision is due to the player Amza, who was the only player at the time (besides the verifiers) that had good runs on both levels, stating that Slaughterhouse is harder in an answer on his RU-vid video.[16] Legacy The original version of Slaughterhouse is considered to be one of the most popular impossible levels in the game. Two other levels (Sakupen Circles and Abyss of Darkness) managed to dethrone the new verified version but were moved below Slaughterhouse over a month after their respective dethronings. The well-known verified Top 1 version inspired other upcoming levels such as KOCMOC and The Rock House.[17][18] IcEDCave is also currently creating a prequel of the level known as GRIEF.[19]
