If were a British Jazz-Rock band, and this is the only video (as far as I am aware) of a session created for TV in the early '70s. I hope you enjoy this slice of Jazz Rock. See also "Seldom Seen Sam", & "Fibonacci's Number".
Terry Smith - Guitar.
Dick Morrisey - Band Leader, Sax & Flute.
Dave Greenslade - Keyboards.
Cliff Davies - Drums.
Jim Richardson - Bass.
JW Hodgkinson - Vocals.
Dave Quincey - Sax.

the keyboarder in this performance for belgian TV "ROCK OF THE SEVENTIES" as well as the following tour is not JOHN MEALING, but DAVE GREENSLADE, who sat in after the split of COLOSSEUM!!

Was surprise to see Dave Greenslade's name in this listing of players. Was a big fan of both Colosseum & If.

I cannot believe that anyone would compare them to Chicago. If were more experimental and had a free form approach to their music. After all these years I still go back to listen to them. Actually saw them perform at The Birdcage in Ashton-Under-Lyne, Lancashire back in the day.

@@gregruthen3844 I have Steamhammer down as one of the worst gigs I ever attended at Newcastle University. I have kind of moved on to Northern Soul since then. I have a show on kglt.net in Montana, trying to improve the musical scene away from the C&W that dominates here.

Top flight musicians and song writers who brought woodwinds to jazz/ rock. The world needs an anthology from these guys.

Around about 1975, the Parkstone Jazz Club in Poole, UK, had Terry Smith as a monthly guest. I was in the house band & thoroughly enjoyed that night. A few months later we had the Ronnie Scott Trio with John Mealing on C3 and Bobby Gien on drums replacing the earlier Mike Carr and Tony Crombie - another good night.

If were one of the best live bands on the circuit in the 60's. Superb soloists and a rhythm section that was always on fire. Great vocalist in Hodgkinson!

By far the most underrated band of all times. As they are often compared to Chicago (but that's misleading, according to me), they should deserve at least part of the same international acclaim as the American band. Sure they were by no means lesser as their musical abilities were concerned.

For a very brief period, Dave Greenslade (after 'Colosseum' and before 'Greenslade' ) played with IF. From his looks I believe on this clip it is Greenslade playing on the Keyboards rather than John Mealing. But I will stand corrected if someone knows for sure.

Wow, I can't believe this is on youtube. I saw them in Detroit, Nov. 1970, supporting Elton John. Everyone came to hear "Your Song" and it seemed like I was the only audience member familiar with If's music. In fact when I was the only one who clapped when they introduced the song "What Did You Say About the Box," the singer looked in my direction and said Thank you. I always felt bad that they weren't better received that night.

I don't believe it ! IF on video !! Saw these guys at the Fillmore East, opening up for Rod Stewart/Faces in 1970. Became a fan based on that performance. They also got a lot of airplay on WNEW-FM from Scott Muni and Allison Steele. Wonderful, wonderful band. One tune - "Your City is Falling" (on If2) just burns, and Dennis Elliott plays a great 'big band' type of solo. Great soloists - John Mealing was a VERY underrated Hammond player.

Nová zostava hrala V rokoch 1972 a 1973.

Butch Alano žiaľ mnohí kritici si neuvedomujú, že IF boli skutočnou jazz rockovou skupinou, kým Chicago boli rockovou skupinou s dychmi brass rock, ktorá sa neskôr orientovala na kombináciu rocku s popom a Blood Sweat And Tears boli blues rockovou skupinou, ktorú doplnili v dychovej sekcii jazzoví hudobníci.a v hudbe miešala rôzne žánre vrátane klasickej hudby.
