I got a reservation for a standard One. I live in a rural farming community. Got 2 major cities on either side of me. One is 16miles and the other is 22miles. Both are on standard two lanes, 45-55mph. However, with the large farming equipment on the roads here people are used to seeing vehicles going a little slower. I ride motorcycles 8 months a year and this will be perfect to use the rest of the year without being wet and cold! 🤞👍

I was thinking the same thing about this being the ultimate solution for people who prefer motorcycles. I used to ride a motorcycle for work commute but after a few years of dealing with weather and safety I switched to a car. Its not fun working a 16hr shift to get caught in some freezing sleet and rain on your way back home.

I like it and placed my order for the One S today. The only thing is that I really want the One S in white, though we're supposed to be able to configure our vehicles a few months before delivery which for the One S is Q124. As a 20-year motorcyclist and Tesla fan, this is the perfect alternate vehicle when the shared Tesla is out of reach or when I only need to take a jaunt around town. I also don't mind that the One S has fixed batteries for the better top speed, longer range, and home charging with a Tesla Wall Connector and J1772 adapter. Once Nimbus comes to SoCal with some kind of kiosk or brick and mortar reservation location, I'll see if I can secure a test-drive. San Diego is a hotspot already for Arcimoto and SOLO, so it's a good place for them to show the Nimbus.

@@offtheshelfrides Nice. Being near San Diego attracts all of the smaller form-factor EV manufacturers since they all seem to congregate here. Good weather, EV-friendly people, and a good place to show against the competition. I'm sure Nimbus will be here when they're ready to allow test drives, or I should say, it would be weird if they weren't. :)

Arcimoto has a three year production lead on Nimbus. With around 475 FUV's in the wild already providing real data and feedback in real world traffic. Financing is available and FUV sales are gaining traction. The full doors, climate control, and price point, make the Nimbus S competitive but I remember the door breaking on the prototype at Fully Charged Live, and general lack of a finished product. There is plenty of room for right sized mobility in the EV market so good luck to Nimbus.

@@barnabasseadog7660 Depends on where you live though. Here in the Midwest, the Arcimoto would be treated as a motorcycle. It rains, it sits in the garage, snows, in the garage, too cold, in the garage. So the pod option, we can still use them unless there is snow or ice, better for the Midwest.

At first sight it looks like a great idea: good range; sensible speed; weatherproof; convenient access; unfussy seating; not swamped with 'bloat-ware tech', self-drive nonsense and trendy gizmos; apparently safer than a bike; built on a simple welded steel chassis with easily-replaced plastic bodywork; a logical, familiar steering-wheel setup; and a tandem seating arrangement - which is the optimum for reducing drag. So... if its chassis articulation mechanism is rugged and reliable, and the battery management and electrical system is sufficiently refined, I can see it putting a fair few rival 'autocycle' noses out of joint. It's encouraging that it doesn't make outrageous promises. It's not pretending to be anything other than a 2-bod transport pod. It's not a tow-truck, a sports car, or a luxurious, fully-loaded Bentley rival; it won't rock-crawl up a mountain; it won't save the planet by running solely on magic beans and vegan dreams, and it's not an ego-buffing status symbol or stupid fashion accessory. Apparently. I admit that I'm a sceptical, grumpy cynic who thinks that if something looks too good to be true, then it probably is; but I try to keep an open mind. The name 'Nimbus' implies that the vehicle's designers might have their heads in the clouds, but I'm happy to accept facts, empirical evidence and proof. Show me the skidmarks. The idea certainly looks attractive (but then, so do a lot of things to anyone sufficiently desperate to believe). 🤔 Actually building enough of the things within budget is the greatest challenge, as numerous optimistic startups have discovered to their (and their investors') cost. Even if prices don't creep up (and let's be honest - they usually do), it's still too expensive for a pleb like me, so I'll stick with my bicycle for now. It cost me £130, seventeen years ago; I ride 70 miles a week in lousy UK weather, on rough, hilly Yorkshire roads, dodging scary, bike-hating traffic [remember that Jeremy Clarkson is a Yorkshireman...🤭], but it's still going strong after more than 50,000 miles. It's had the occasional new tyre, but pretty much looks after itself. That's my idea of cheap, practical transport. The Nimbus looks like a sensible vehicle, though.
@offtheshelfrides
@offtheshelfrides Год назад
Wow. Excellent insite! Considering it is less expensive than most motorcycles here in the U.S, with more protection, I feel it could be successful. Especially in the large cities. I don't expect it to sell to rural areas as a main vehicles. I will probably be the only one to own one, lol
@JosephWall117
@JosephWall117 Год назад
They're going to build in volume utilizing a Chinese contract manufacturer (built-in manufacturing capability with low startup costs) using modular parts that I'm assuming mostly will come from pre-existing electric scooters in the Asian markets (meaning good parts availability, short supply chain), so I think they'll actually be able to mitigate the typical startup problems. There's already plenty of models in Asia with the removable batteries that you can bring into your apartment to charge, so the components are all there already, their suspension and tilt mechanism and software just need to hold out. But, I've done the calculations for my own personal transportation usage, and I've figured that I can get my cost per mile with the Nimbus down to about 3 to 5 cents per mile, depending on how long it goes without needing significant repair or a new set of batteries. Comparing that to my current cheap, reliable, economical gas car which still costs about 25 cents per mile, and that's a really significant savings over a 65 mile round trip commute 6 days a week year-round.
@JosephWall117
@JosephWall117 Год назад
@@offtheshelfrides I actually plan to use it to commute from a rural area just outside of a major city into one of the neighborhoods on the city's edge where I work. I can take 45mph roads the whole way, it'll only take about 45 minutes, I can re-charge indoors at work with the charging dock so I'll always be leaving with full range, and running costs should only be like 3 to 5 cents per mile, depending on how long the vehicle lasts before needing significant maintenance. Comparing that to my current gas car at 25 cents per mile, that's a significant savings over the lifetime of the vehicle.

Got my reservation in! Was looking at the Arcimoto but they are not available in Michigan, require a motorcycle endorsement in Michigan (no steering wheel), do not totally enclose, and yes, price. This is perfect for my situation. Small "weekend" property in the Thumb of Michigan, no freeways, most travel is 20 miles or less to beaches, shopping, events. I have a solar generator so charging cost for me will be zero. could even drive it to my weekday house (100 miles with a charging station nicely located half way in Marlette.) And it is a local Michigan business. Just hope this does not become vaporware...

Only thing I don't like about the s model is the non swappable battery pack. I want to take a look at it and see if its bolted down or if it is locked down under the floor. The swappable packs are a great feature and means you could buy new packs down the line if your batteries lose charge and range. It looks like they are using larger cells for more range but I still want the swappable packs. But that extra 25mph will be had to pass up

Yep. I had a similar thought, but I would be driving mostly highway so I need to go 55 or 60....
@DirkWrightxyz

The swappable battery packs are a standard design used in Asia for scooters and probably other small vehicles. Adding more of them is not practical in that same body design. You wouldn't be able to remove them if they were added, since the door opening doesn't go further enough back. Having swappable batteries takes up more space also. There are probably other reasons that the One S has built-in batteries.

150 pound battery in the S. You won't need to do anything to it for 8 years or more. The point of the climate emergency is to not only go electric but to stop non-essential trips, pleasure drives and road vacations. Use another form of transportation or just don't go. I will buy it when they put a real car seat in front for the driver. It MUST tilt forward to allow easier egress in and out of the back seat. The current seat does not allow easy access to the back as it does not tilt forward. In addition, it has very little padding like a real car seat and quite frankly it looks like you are sitting on a toilet. By the way it qualifies as an Autocycle, as it is fully enclosed, has a steering wheel, seatbelts, airbag, brake and power pedals and a seat you sit on instead of straddling like a motorcycle. Most states require the common class C driver's license that is typical for a car and not a motorcycle endorsement or license. However, these requirements vary for state to state, so before you buy it, check with your DMV first.

I am considering purchasing the 1S as I’d like to be able to keep up with traffic on highways (I hope the Nimbus co test drives it on an interstate to see if it’ll work safely on one) I’ll definitely get the optional air conditioner, because I live in South Florida, humidity capital of the world! The other option I’d like to get is user replaceable batteries on the 1S. I’m glad to have seen this video and see not all features are on both models. I’m planning to buy a RV toy hauler so I’d use the trike to get around town when I park my rig and camp somewhere for a while.
