We are fans of electric bikes on this channel. Ebikes offer affordable access to the benefits of EVs in a small environmentally friendly package. Bikes aren’t for everyone especially due to the lack of bike lanes and bad weather. Here is why i got excited over the new nimbus one EV, it brings the benefits of ebikes in a package that can use car infrastructure. The 3 wheel nimbus one electric pod delivers a range of 90 miles with a top speed of 50mph.

If we had protected bike lanes, more would bike. Designing around the car is a HUGE mistake, and electric micro devices are a HUGE part of the future.

Considering the current economic conditions, not a stretch to see far less auto usage on city streets. Existing streets need to be made bike friendly, but also electric and safe parking friendly. (Not just cars but all forms of battery transportation) People are buying e-bikes. I believe I’ve recently read that e-bikes are the LARGEST group of purchases amongst seniors nationwide. This includes electric cars. Writing on the wall… 😂😎

I have an ebike, ordered an e-scooter, and made a reservation for the nimbus one. I made it my goal to use personal electric vehicles as my primary mode of transportation. I will take my e-scooter to work, bike for quick convenience store pickups, and nimbus for grocery shopping and appointments. I really hope they come thru with production.

Sure, I would absolutely buy something like this. I also love how they did the removable battery. Though I am curious about how this will do in the after market and what warranties and repair services the company offers with their products.

I love the idea about the Nimbus, but I'm always skeptical about when companies announce that they're about to go into production "soon". Elio made a meal of it for ages, Aptera despite the hype, has been doing it for eight? That said, I did plunk down $100 because it's not that big a risk. The biggest irony is that, if the Nimbus is able to keep the price at around $10k, is that it'll be cheaper than enclosed e-bikes like the PEBL or the now defunct ELF. Full disclosure, I had a PEBL and it was apparently good enough for someone to steal. The think that most people don't realize is that 99% of the time you don't need a full-sized car or SUV; people buy the things for things they might do. I keep hear with regards to electric cars that they won't get them because they go on a road-trip once-a-year, when the reality is that renting a car for that one trip is cheaper than maintaining a full-sized car. People understand when I say I have a black-and-white laser printer at home because if I need something in color, I'll take it elsewhere - and haven't have to change the toner in 15 years, but can't see it applied to vehicles.

Been following that biker that imported a 2000 dollar electric pickup (with 4 wheels, larger batteries & the electric dump option). Even with shipping & handling it was thousands less that this single seater. (Full cab on the pickup). Range is around 60 miles… but it is a pickup, and the owner installed a solar charging system to keep the batteries topped off. We need something like this here.

@@nobleharbor265 Assuming you get a pickup because you need it (and not for the reasons 99% of them are sold for today), I'd be worried about the charge if the bed was full. Sixty miles would be fine for me on a daily basis, but I'd think a heavy load would tax the battery quite a bit.

The major problem with these super efficient little nippers is that people are afraid of being smashed by those gigantic 2 ton monsters hogging the road and drivers who simply don’t notice small vehicles. They need to be very brightly coloured and have excellent lights for daylight use.

Thanks for covering the Nimbus. But brace for impact! Expect a flood of "That thing is a death trap!" comments. It would be helpful to have mentioned their claims: "With front airbags, ABS, ADAS, and more, the Nimbus One offers the safety features of a car." Note they did not say 'safe AS a car". There are many that would accept the higher risk (e.g. the scooter culture in EU) for around-the-town transportation.

I’m an early adopter but full size EVs don’t interest me yet. These however really do. Cycling is always my first choice and it feels wrong to get in a car by myself to do a few miles but sometimes the weather’s bad or I don’t feel like doing the distance. I would love to have one of these for those cases and save the environment by keeping my perfectly good car. It would be much cheaper too!

Yes my apartment does not allow me to store a motorcycle inside but an ebike is ok. The little 3 wheeled thing probably wouldn't go up the 2 steps though... but still light enough someone could throw it in the back of a pickup truck and leave real quick

Great analysis, I love electric cars and bikes, I also have my entire house on solar and batteries and it’s completely off grid, with that being said realizing that a 3hr drive in a new F150 lighting uses 12 days of an average household electricity it’s ridiculous when people talk about electric cars helping “climate change”. They are fun and the new Engineering that is happening makes it enjoyable but it’s definitely not good for the environment after you realize the true data

Not sure if I can solely blame a traumatic childhood car accident or not but for whatever reason I never got my drivers license. I planned on living in Florence Italy and have for about 15 years, and since it is a city built around humans in a time when walking was the way around, it doesn’t make me feel any shame like I experience here in the USA, where I feel I need to explain what is nothing short of a handicap that makes the idea of indipendente virtually impossible, including financial.

I really like these kinds of vehicles but they need to reduce the costs which will come as battery tech improves. Give me one of these with 4 wheels so it doesnt need to lean and it will be as simple as a gokart. The range is always bullshit on ebikes so I would only estimate its range to be 50miles which is still fine if you are not goin on the freeway. a freeway legal vehicle will need alot longer range but you would have to expect alot higher price too.

Ev vehicles are dumb in my opinion, and before you start to boo hoo me, understand I'm off grid, and understand solar systems and the pros and cons of it. Most Ev vehicles use lithium chemistry, as they are lighter than lifepo4 batteries, however they can have a thermal run away. This is why most modern off grid batteries tend to use lifepo4, however these types weigh a ton compared to lithium ion types. Furthermore batteries are not cheap and for use in vehicles that are subjected to extreme conditions, causes degradation of said batteries. Not a issue typically in a conditioned space. Where the temperature is more stable. Personally I like the concept of a enclosed reverse trike, yet I'd like to see a company build a gas/diesel option hybrid, where it uses a small battery for speeds under 30 mph, then switches to the engine for higher speeds, or when using the climate controls. Or have a option for either a full Ev, or a engined version. Elio motors had promised to have a reverse trike on the streets year's ago, yet it failed to ever materialize. Unless a small vehicle offers a similar use in going to work with a real world range, I don't see it working in most of the USA. Sure in some mega cities a vehicle that is all electric makes sense. Yet if you leave the city you could be left needing a real vehicle. A range of 200 miles with every thing turned on maximum, the heater, windshield wipers, the stereo blasting, driving at maximum speed is the bench mark, not the other way around. When this happens then I could see these small vehicles make strides in gaining acceptance. Until then I'll stick with gas or diesel.
@zlonewolf

Aptera? LiFePO4 isn't *that* much heavier, and why many Chinese vehicles are using them. Personally, I like the idea of using something like Lithium Titanate for say 10kwh and then using the rest in lighter LiFePO4 or something else. Most of the cycles would be in Lithium Titanate (20k cycles) and the lighter batteries wouldn't get cycled very much. There is a company doing something like this, but I don't remember the name.
@antonwearsakilt5209

@@nlewis-vg3kc If you not seen the new hydrogen vehicle that's set to release in 1-3 year's, it uses hydrogen in canisters that allow you to load energy like that of regular gas car/ truck/ vehicle. Meaning all the current infrastructure is in place to dispense these hydrogen canisters. Especially how dirty lithium is in the extraction process and turning it into a battery. In my opinion ev vehicles are still dumb, considering how much space and weight is taken up, plus the limited ranges and charging stations. For other uses they they make sense. Merry Christmas MMXXII
@nlewis-vg3kc
@nlewis-vg3kc Год назад
@@antonwearsakilt5209 As someone who lives off grid, do you really want to be paying to get H2 whenever you need it? Some of the battery chemistries like lithium titanate is supposed to last 20k cycles. Which would be like 60 years at a cycle a day. Lithium has problems, but so does hydrogen production (or pretty much anything else (especially fossil fuels). The best we can do, IMO, is push for the longest lasting solutions. Another solution that has been around forever is nickel-iron. That truly is dense, though, so off-grid. But supposed to last forever.
