Over the years I've not had too much trouble with wildlife diving down on my baits as most of my waters have been on the deep side.
just of late I've been frequenting a couple of shallower waters and targeting the margins, this has bought me nothing but trouble with the pesky coots, ducks etc and prompted me into having a rethink.
Having done some research I came to the conclusion that a high powered torch with a fairly narrow beam and strobe option was the way to go. Enter the Klarus XT12GT Pro
it's a real beast of a man gadget with it's beautifully machined aircraft grade aluminium
,shockproof design and superb battery life, what's not to like. The only question was, is it good enough to put off the birds etc?
The answer is a big fat yes provided the strobe is used. Some birds are put off by the solid light although it seems to be hit and miss.
At almost £100 these aren't cheap but you get what you pay for which is a truly beautiful piece of kit which should last you a lifetime. In theory the only things that should need replacing is the battery and the "O" ring.
These have now dropped in price to around £70
