The Bivvylife channel is dedicated to everything Carp fishing, whether it be tackle reviews in and around my home or fishing out and about in different locations. This is a passion of mine which has really taken hold over the past fifteen years plus. My preferred waters are generally non heavily stocked, rugged natural looking lakes that offer a challenge, runs waters don't really do it for me, although I will fish them during bait testing stints over the winter months. Generally I enjoy my trips out regardless whether or not I catch any fish, Just being out amongst nature Is a real bonus for me, It can be so relaxing with day to day stress just ebbing away. My product reviews are completely unbiased, furthermore, I'm in no way, shape or form affiliated to any companies.
Have you fished in minus tempratures with these? Im a little worried about the wheels freezing up, my delks have a problem again and just want new and these look mega value. Thanks
Hi mate. I've only done 2 sessions where it was below freezing and they were fine. I can't really be too specific about the temperatures but I do remember there was a frost. Not much help I guess. Tight lines Steve
Hi mate. It's a good point and there are people that still use that method, I tried it for a few years but didn't find it helped at all. Thanks for commenting. Tight lines Steve
@@BivvyLife : Think you’re right ….it doesn’t catch more fish but I think it is a source of calcium and minerals which is probably beneficial to the fishes’ health so you wouldn’t notice an increase in catch rate. Also I think it possibly is an aid to digestion ( think birds…..they consume grit for digestion). Thanks for your reply and tight lines. 🎣
I bought it, tried it on loaded and had one trip out and it's sat in the corner ever since, tighten shoulder straps and they just slip, put cable ties to stop it slipping but not used it since, got something else. I had a previous Saber rucksack about 8-9 years ago, that was bang on, shame
Annoying because it's not a really cheap option. It's not like we paid a five from a car boot. I should've taken note of the 2 bad reviews on amazon. Tight lines Steve
I use this for my feeder fishing, i have to say, its the best quality feel i've ever gotten from a reel. I know i know, it's apparently HUGE for feeder fishing, but i like it.
This is a bit off toppic, sorry, but I d like to ask how would you compare this years boilies to the 'flavourless' ones last year? I scored some rolling tables and now im looking everywhere on recipes and tips😅 I like the boilie recipe you showed us last year but would like to hear how they compare to the fishmeal based ones you have now, if you dont mind😅 Thanks in advance and tight lines!
Hi mate. To be honest, my answer in short is, I actually don't know. I've not had chance to put them to the test as I've only done a few sessions on a very low stocked water. All started off well with 2 fish on my first session this year with the naturals and that's as much as I can say. I'm not getting out much lately due to a few problems that need sorting at home but will try to do some sort of update in the future. Tight lines Steve
There is nothig more rewarding than formulating your own baits, sourcing your own ingredients, additives, flavours, enzymes, and special top secret inclusions into your own baits. Then watching the fish, tear up the lake bed hunting for your bait. Then other anglers watching how your bait is provking such a feeding response from the carp, they ask to buy your baits. I made long term baits with fish nutrition at the core of the formula. Cost didn't matter to me the fish welfare and growth potential from eating my baits was the top priority. The better the quality the better long-term growth and health of the carp for future generations to enjoy catching huge healthy stocks of massive carp. Bait is something not to scrimp on. I have fished baits in different angling situations and the better the quality the better the results long term and often first time being introduced over inferior quality baits. Depends on the venue and angling situation. I am glad there are still lads making their own, it is epic when it all comes together on your own baits.
Love it pal. You've taken the time out to put into words the magic and dedication of the DIY bait fraternity. Not only is it a way of striving to finding an edge but can also save some cash along the way. Unfortunately my bulk rolling days are now behind me due to other commitments, although I'll not be selling my gear as I'll still be making my own, albeit on a lesser scale. Thanks for taking the time out to give us an insight of your perspective, I'm sure most will agree. Tight lines Steve
Hi mate. I've only ever had a couple of items that I've had problems with but that was 6 maybe 7 years ago. I once had a large eyed swivel that had a defect meaning the eye would come out of the barrel. They do a lead clip which isn't brilliant, there's a slight design fault in the shape of the plastic retainer meaning the lead doesn't pull off easily, I buy the pinned ones from them which are bang on. Their Kevlar hook link is 2nd to none, also their hooks are 👌🏻 Tight lines Steve
It really is mate, I can't say it's the best as I've only tried a few brands but it's definitely the best for the money in my opinion. Hope you're well pal 👍🏻 Tight lines Steve
I have a fatboy carporter with back wheels added ive had it for 10yrs its been great but im thinking of biting the bullet and investing in a new power porter as im a bit of an old fart now 😂
Hi Brad. Both of the rear wheels adjust up and down by pulling out the chrome spring loaded locator pin. Notice the 6 adjustment holes in the struts? That where the pin slots in. Once said pin is located tighten up the black thumb screws. Tight lines Steve
Hi mate... Did you ever do a follow up vid on this, please?.. I can't find one, but it could be that I'm not looking hard enough, lol..... Cheers... There's a 6 mnth wait on these atm. So a bit of time to grab more info on them.
Hi mate. No I've not done it yet but I've now owned it long enough and used it in lots of different scenarios, so I really need to get my finger out and get 1 done. In a nutshell it's a great Barrow but not for the weak. Tight lines Steve
@@BivvyLife , thanks for your honest reply... Was thinking of ordering the "power" version. (needs must).... I actually thought yours was powered?... Can understand that weighing loads, fully loaded... On the basis of what you've seen from yours. Would you recommend the powered version?
I absolutely would yes just make sure you put the bulk of the load towards the middle of the 3 wheels this way it'll be perfectly balanced and will be easier to lift for any big turns left or right. I'm currently looking to upgrade mine to a power barrow. Tight lines Steve
@@BivvyLife , thanks again.... I'd stick with Prestige for the power barrow, if I were you. I know they are a bit more expensive. But the quality is miles above the others out there... I had a MK8 power barrow but passed it on to a mate who was in ill health.. I , later, bought a Fox power barrow , about 4-5 months ago, and totally regret not going back to a Prestige Barrow.. The Fox will be outed as soon as I can get an Extreme Power Barrow...... All the best...
Some people will double bag so it takes longer to dissolve and then negate the need for a larger lead. I use 1.5oz leads in my bags, but the water I'm fishing isn't very deep tbf. Plus you have to take into account the weight of a finished bag, a 3oz lead and a big bag full will probly weigh near to 4oz. You can use some kitchen scales and see what your bags weigh and then know what kind of rod your going to require to chuck the bag, depending on distance required etc..
Using 70x100ml the bait usually adds around 0.5oz but yes I deffo take that into consideration, I should've mentioned that in the video but it completely slipped my mind to be honest. Wouldn't it be more cost effective to buy slower dissolve bags that double up? Thanks for commenting Tight lines Steve
A very good question pal i use heavy leads if im boating a solid bag out and always fish it drop off because a big lead and short bag rig in my opinion aid the carps chance of throwing the hook if im casting bags i use small bags with a 1.5 oz or 2oz lead as i can chuck that a fair distance if required also i prefer leaders over tubing but as we know not always allowed and in my opinion big leads dropoff style are perfectly suited to leaders ive actually been using solid bags a lot more this last year anyway great video hope your well cheers and tightlines
Yes mate leaders and drop off is deffo a must with heavier leads If using short hook lengths. I'm in the habit of using tubing but my syndicate allows leaders which is what I'll be switching to. Hope you're well mate Tight lines Steve
Hi do you have to use fishmeal? What other alternative is there for this? And can i get in morrisons or tesco? Like could i use groundbait powder instead? Thankyou
Hi. You can use any foodstuff at your disposal, providing it's of a powdery/ granular nature, yes you could use a fishmeal based ground bait but you'll probably not get the same feeding reaction. I don't think you'll be able to get ingredients from supermarkets other than the glycerol/glycerine. Tight lines Steve
Great question mate it's something that used to really confuse me. Although this isn't a drop off set up it also isn't a fixed set up. If the mainline gets cut off, the hooklink will still slide off and wouldn't have a trailing lead attached. In short no this isn't a fixed set up. If you're ever in doubt don't be afraid to ask the fishery owner or balif they won't frown on you they'll be really appreciative I'm sure. Welcome back to the fishing scene. Tight lines Steve.
I'm new to this. I'm finding anything with soya/semolina smells the same when I break one open. Is this the case with all 'basic' 50/50 mixes? If I don't want to make a fishy bait (wife proof), what would you use to replace those ingredients?
When you say basic 50-50 mixes I'm assuming you're referencing unflavoured in which case yes most will smell similar as they're farinaceous so highly starchy and mealy. If you want a basic natural bait you could replace the fishmeal with ground seed and powdered milk. Try Nectarblend or ptx from quality baits near Birmingham. Also a 50-50 could be made up of alternatives such as maize flour and clo. Hope this helps Tight lines Steve
On the whole it's a brilliant bit of kit the only negative for me is the sheer weight of it but that's really down to me getting older and also having a knackered shoulder. I'll be fitting a power conversion shortly which will sort that Issue. Tight lines Steve
@@BivvyLife Hiya mate QQ, when you measured from the front to the Y bar socket, im assuming that is as far as it could be extended? Also, do the side panels fold outwards flat? Ive just bought an emporer bedchair it is huge, this is the biggest barrow I could find and im concerned it's still not big enough! 🤣
Hi I love the video 😊 I’m doing my own Boilie making is it right that semolina and soya are the main binders in a base mix there’s not much videos on here how to make a good basic home Boilie i’ve been trying all different ways sometimes they’re too sticky or I’ve dried out too quick.
I'd imagine there are a lot of bait companies using semolina and soy flour as the main binder albeit fairly discreetly as there's a stigma associated with it as they're seen as cheap filler- bulking ingredients. Used in moderation I don't see anything wrong with the practice. Like most things in life, it's all about moderation. Tight lines Steve
You can write down the list of the ingredients you put in it, sir. (I don't have a Turkish translation on my phone) What should I do to prevent mold? Thank you.
What's the best setting for the sensitivity I bought the same alarm and went fishing yesterday and accidentally pressed the sensitivity button whilst setting up and dodnt know if it had a bad impact on my fishing for the day?
Only you can decide that,There can be a lot of factors that determine your sensitivity selection, wind, distance you're fishing, whether or not you're fishing in open water or up against snags, amount of tightness applied to your line etc. Experimentation and experience all come into play. Sorry if this doesn't help but this is been genuinely how I feel about it. Tight lines Steve
Thanks mate it's just I uaslly buy bite alarms without the sensitivity custom setting so I'm use to just turning it on setting the tone and volume and that's it compared to the sensititvy setting never messed about with them before so I feel like just buying a alarm without the sensitivity setting so I don't have this problem but it's a waste as its a new alarm
@Sphinx420Gaming I guess you could put it on the most sensitive so that you don't miss any touches then work back from that. If you find you're getting too many beeps from the wind or liners that you want to ignore you could turn it to a less sensitive setting.
Hi mate u had to work your socks off for that mirror it was a tough one that session but u had great company good food and some nice weather so life doesnt get much better pal cheers and tightlines
I honestly didn't think it was going to happen once Sunday morning was upon us mate. It's a real shame its no longer day ticket there, I'd love to go back and have another few goes at it. Tight lines Steve
