I have been an avid reader since my childhood. My parents encouraged me to read early on, and i ended up really enjoying it. Even though i initially developed my reading habit with regular books, my dad also gave me several comic books to read, mainly Donald Duck, Uncle Scrooge, Mickey, Tintin, Asterix and Lucky Luke. Loving reading regular books didnt stop me from loving comic books, or looking down on them as an inferior form of literature. To me, reading has always counted as anything, be it reading books, comics, news or even dialogues in games. Anyone who feels like getting into reading should keep this in mind, in case the task of taking on a book may seem daunting at first.

I would recommend the book " Wings Of Fire " by Tui T Sutherland, it's a very entertaining series ( Especially if you like dragons.) Instead of reading the actual book, I listen to audiobooks, I like how the reader reads it cause she also acts out the voices. So yeah, go and check that out.

I think that every form of content that gives an story in a written form, with less or more words, counts as reading. Yes, of course, the good aspects of reading are obtained better with traditional literature because you have to do more from your part, contrary to comics and mangas in where things are more simplified to not screwing up the artwork, but, still, is reading, nonetheless. Therefore, if you don´t like much books, well, you have comics and mangas.

Watching this reminds me of when I was a kid and I would read the Captain Underpants series. They were also a graphic novel. The humor was amazing. There were times where I couldn't control my laughter in class during "Quiet reading time" and got sent to the office. I had to explain to the principal how much I loved the series and showed her the pages that were super funny to me. She wasn't amused, but she was happy I was enjoying reading and sent me back to class and to "try not to laugh so hard"

OMG!!! I read this book when I was like in the third grade and I LOVED IT! I then eventually forgot about it for several years then I watched your video and it brought light to my memory gaps! Definitely would read again (and this is also coming from someone who also HATES reading with a passion)

I've read this series, it was actually pretty good. My favorite story was when pet had to try and get some pencil lead from the cracks in the floorboards

NGL, I want to read it now. Also, one of my personal favorites is "And then there were none" by Agatha Christie. It's not a difficult read, has interesting and unique characters, and it's got an amazing twist.

I saw an ad for this in a manga series I'm reading. I had to come back and watch this video to be sure it was the same one, and I'm glad I did!

You should read Wings of Fire by Tui T Sutherland. You can read the actual books or the graphic novel versions. It is a 15 book series but there are only 5 graphic novels. They are pretty quick reads and it would be easy for you to try out.

I do like the pet/PET joke, it's a good use of the medium. For those not in the know: PET means Polytthylene Terephthalate, and is what most drink bottles are made of.

Funny story, I was just at a local used bookstore when I found this masterpiece. It was actually hilarious and hope Jaiden knows she made me get that book.

That's how I feel about the Redwall series by the late Brian Jaques - the intended audience might be older children/young teens, but the lore is deep and well written, and every character has such personality and voice! If you want to kickstart a reading problem, Redwall is a great way to go (just look up the chronological order to start!).

I'm not into reading, but a book that I'll gladly read is "The Wings of a Falcon" by Cynthia Voight. Also known as "The Tale of Oriel," I find that it flows nicely and has very interesting characters.

i love kids literature like this, its cute, fun, and creative as opposed to a lot of kids media that has canned, flat characters just to be a marketing ploy for action figures and toys. it also makes recycling seem fun! kids deserve media with time, effort, and skill put into their plots and art!

As someone who knows about plastics from having a 3d printer, P.E.T is a type of plastic that stands for polyethylene terephthalate and the recycling symbol for P.E.T is a one inside the arrow things.

It sounds really cute and gets kids to learn to recycle in a fun way. I think it was worth mentioning for that. I literally read three short graphic novels for a university English class along with 2 other short novels. My teacher was a huge Alan Moore fan. I eventually got into The Sandman series because I wanted to see if there were more non-traditional graphic novels. (Also found V for Vendetta right before they made a movie of it. 🎬). It was 12 years ago...but 2 of the books were Maus and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

One of the ‘books’ that I rediscovered years later was a book series called Maximum Ride…. The manga version, and in my opinion is better than the actual book itself. Discovered it in sixth grade when I was checking out a book in the school library after that I read the entire series and never touched again since I switched school later on after summer. Fast forward to end my on freshman year, I was returning either my school laptop or my final exam. the drop off was in the library which I hadn’t touched for whatever reason, and in the corner of my eye I saw the title shoved between a couple other volumes in it. I didn’t think much of it as I hadn’t realized what it was, that was until my curiosity got the better of me and I picked it out, a huge sense of nostalgia kicked me in the teeth as I remembered all the memories of good ole sixth grade and I read it only to realize that it was the last day and I wouldn’t be able to read this amazing series. That was until I discovered the wonderful app of Kindle and I read the entire original series(the other ones were just boring) in like 2-3 days. And I’ve been a happy customer of theirs for three years now and my mom happily pays for my subscription if it means I read more. Fuck Amazon still… even though I’ve published my book on their website, and they give me books that I wouldn’t normally read.

I believe that the debate on whether or not comic books/manga should be considered "real" books is the same as if animation should be called "real" television. It's the elitist mind-set of "it's for kids!" because it isn't similar enough to what has been done before with the classics and such, which would have been literally impossible because, y'know, classics are old. It's the incorrect opinion that accessible and easy means unintelligent and without meaning. To add to this: Both of my parents are and have been English teachers for over 20 years, and they ENCOURAGE their students to read comics because it is by far the most effective way to get them to read.

I found PET many years back at a library, and I love it so dearly.

Reminds me of how when Ba Da Bean (a 2021 cartoon series about a bean sprout living in an art classroom) launched here in Latin America it got a pretty great fanbase really quickly even though it was a preschool show (most of the fandom wasn't even from the target demographic, Bluey style). And then I'm pretty sure I started the trend of making BDB OCs (a.k.a. Badasonas or Beansonas) after seeing the show's developers post their own, and then the rest of the community did it too, there's ships (Cosa x Bean and Filbert x Bean are prob the most popular ones, I personally ship Bean x Glider), and a lot of fanart. Not to mention how us BDB fans would analyze the episodes over and over to find references to past episodes or easter eggs, or how we worked together to find the episodes in english, or how the (now inactive) amino, wiki and discord server were made, etc. Plus, the BDB OCs look somewhat similar to the Pet characters lol (considering most of them are art or school supplies)

In middle school we had a "reading day" where classes stopped for an hour but we all had to read a book during that time (because the best way to encourage kids to do something is to make it COMPULSORY
