I keep a running list of experiences, impressions, revelation and miracles that have built my testimony. These are my "anchor bolts". I call this list "Why I Believe What I Believe". Every now and then, I run through it and it has strengthened me immensely. But the real value has been in allowing me to keep those things fresh. It's much harder for the adversary to steal away light when you have it in writing. The memories always come flooding back.

My first realization reading the BOM after forty years away, was that the separation between Nephi and his Brothers was due to Nephi remembering and keeping alive Gods works in their lives, and his Brothers forgetting or not keeping those things in remembrance. This is what drove the entire BOM drama, as well as all the ups and downs, the wars and contentions, joys and sorrows. Remembrance.

“If we have the truth, it cannot be harmed by investigation; if we have not the truth, it ought to be harmed” -Apostle J. Reuben Clark Why would seeking diligently with real intent to know the facts about the church be negative? Are there are things the church benefits from its members ignoring? 🤔

@josephjanson4753

Yea if you look into the way the 12 apostles have treated people who tried to show church history in an objective way, it’s not necessarily very inspiring. Leonard Arrington is one example. He was pulled out of his calling of church historian because he wanted to show the history in an objective way without oversight by the twelve. They refused to let him publish his works without them censoring it first. Clearly that can’t be meaningless. I never think censorship is a good thing if it’s simply someone trying to publish facts.

“We believe that God will yet reveal many great and important things…..” when was the last time something new was revealed? Nevermind I’ll just put that question on my shelf and not worry about it

As this clip explains, questions aren't to be put on the shelf and not worried about. I think you understand that, but it's easier just to act like questions are discouraged. “We believe that God will yet reveal many great and important things…..” when was the last time something new was revealed? Since 1842 when the Articles of Faith were written, a WHOLE lot of important things. Homeschoolers rock btw. :)

AMEN!!! You know, I didn't realize I had a shelf until I heard this, There are tons of things I don't have answers to ... but so what? I knew the church was true when i joined the church, and that hasn't changed, The things I struggle with are things like (ignorance) getting angry with my Father because my son was born with cerebral palsy after I had been paying my tithing and doing my best to keep the commandments.... simply because I was ignorant. Ignorance can be fixed. There was no one to help me during this critical event, I have repented of this anger after reading the BOM. And people

Excellent! Can't agree more with the statements in this video; shelves that involve the need to ponder, pray, & prepare minds for tomorrow. For thousands of years most of the sons and daughters of God have lived without complete information. They have had to live by faith. We live in a modern world that has an accumulation of vast amounts of knowledge at their finger tips which information originated from acts of faith. Is it possible that accessing knowledge without acts of faith has caused faith to wane? Faith is active and in the past required action of study vs today's no action other than to ask Alexa or Google? Is it possible that there has been ingratitude for the amount of knowledge that we have consumed as well as we've become use to instant information to the extent we feel entitled to getting answers now on demand? Revelation comes in the timeframe of the Lord. Not when we want it. So we hear of those who demand revelation now as if the brethren should be getting answers right and left and forget that things don't work this way. The Lord reveals according to his will and pleasure and not according to our timeframe. We live in an ongoing restoration. We should cultivate gratitude for the things God has revealed. Thank you for this.

I wonder what issues are on brother Halversons 3rd shelf? I would be interested in hearing those issues and the justifications of why it's OK to just leave those issues on that shelf to ignore. It's kind of like knowing that you have skin cancer on your back, but you don't have to think about it because you can't see it with your shirt on.

No one said anything about putting them on the shelf and ignoring them. “I’ve always had an inquiring mind. I’m not satisfied just to accept things. I like to follow through and study things out. I learned early to put aside those gospel questions that I couldn’t answer. I had a shelf of things I didn’t understand, but as I’ve grown older and studied and prayed and thought about each problem, one by one I’ve been able to better understand them.” - Camille Eyring Kimball

What if the answers we find are contrary to what we grew up believing and having faith in? The answers we find force us to question our faith in the man that was supposed to be a prophet of godt

Great question. Jared talked about that a little bit in the full video. I can't find the exact spot, but he essentially encouraged people who encounter answers that are troubling to keep digging for the full context and not just relying on the surface level answer that can cause one to be unsettled. > ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Y8f5tRBwXa8.html

Thank you for your sharing this talk. I honestly believe there are a lot of people that are not members of our Church and do believe in our Church. These are people that are desperately seeking Jesus Christ and have read the Book of Mormon and believe is true. They also believe that the Church has more answers to our 21st-century living approach. However, they are not as flawless as the Church teaches us to be and would not be able to reach in a reasonable short period of time the higher shelf levels because of small practices in their lifestyles not currently accepted by the word of wisdom. Will the Church add a lower shelf so that these people, including myself in many ways, have a place for baptism, marriage, worship, and other Church activities, taking into consideration that they may never reach a higher shelf in their lifetimes as the Saints have and also taking into consideration what it would take to manage a much larger congregation with the same current practices?
@anichols2760

Everyone is welcome in the church. Perfection is not the bar. Trying is. Life is about starting from where you are and entering a process of development that doesn't end until some time in the next life but only by and through the grace of Jesus. He provided all the saving. He just requires our desire to try, and try, and try. His mercy and grace are constant as we enter baptism and enter a lifelong path of repentance (development). There is room for everyone in this church

Personal revelation came to many members when we made our homes centered in Christ as Prophet directed us long before 2020. Now that we are back in person we have nowhere to put these questions. Or we find answers and truths that were never taught to us both at church and in school.
@keki8388
@keki8388 2 года назад
Now is the best time to be in the Church because The Lord is ready to reveal personal revelation and we can take these questions to the temple and learn and act as Jesus would.

I don’t think anyone should feel that they are “unfaithful” if they have a need to explore those things that are uncertain or things in church history that puzzle them. There are some really dark things in the church history and to just ignore them now is only harmful. Any sincere seeking of knowledge is a good thing. I don’t think anything should be put on a shelf. It just makes people feel guilty if they have sincere questions
@CalledtoShare

Did you watch the video? I don't think you understood it if you did. Shelving something isn't ignoring it. It means to continue seeking to understand it. Shelving is a way to categorize and deal with our questions. If you haven't watched the video, I would encourage you to do so.
