*Lyrics:* If you have a friend, One that’s truly trusted, And want good to grow of your friendship, Oh, friend should you speak, _(Often should you speak)_ Trade many gifts, Recede, and find him aflutter. _(Visit and find him often)_ If you have another, One that you mistrust, Still you want to profit from him. Kindly you should speak, And flatter you gift, His treachery repaid with yours. This same friend, If you mistrust him, And suspect him to be false in his words, _(threats)_ You should talk with him, Laugh with him, But repay just what he gives you. I was young once. I walked alone, And became lost in my ways. I felt like I was ripped, When I met another. Man’s joy is found in others. Man’s joy is found in others.
My quote means that if you have e friends, keep them close. But if you have enemies, keep them closer. The closer your enemy is to you the more you will know them, the more you can hurt them.
This song played on my longboat heading back to Ravensthorpe right after the mission when SPOILER Sigurd is taken captive by Alfred the Great, and Basim goes after them to track them. This song fit completely after the rifts and fights Eivor was having with his brother. I arrived at Raventhorpe and immediately after speaking to Randvi, took the brew and went to Valhalla, searching for answers, as in my headcanon after what happened, Eivor was more disturbed about the prophecy of him betraying his own brother.
I can relate to this song honestly is that I think about it. I have three great friends from school and they are amazing people but one of them, broke my trust. I repaid him with being kind till I ended my friendship with him. I was always a loner before I met those three. I enjoyed my time with them and miss the two everyday!
@@ThorAxeleonnot entirely he said to profit off of them and if you can't then repay hem with treachery. The allfatger is the same God of the jews. The while eye for an eye toothfor a tooth
It took me 4 months of playing this game. skald sang o n the ship, sang this song for the 100th time, until I realized: "WAIT.. that's from the havamal!" And I cant believe it took me THAT Long
The song is a performance of some parts of the Havamal, or "The Sayings of the High One", which is basically Odin talking about basic decency and how to be a Gentleman. It's not the first time Wardruna performed pieces of a famous poem too, their song Voluspa is the beginning and end of the poem Voluspa, which is a poem following the basic timeline, supposed to be a witch telling Odin by proving her knowledge by speaking of the past before moving to the future (Ragnarok). Both poems are in the Poetic Eddas, assuming you prefer reading English I recommend the Henry Adam Bellows Translation.
