Contacting Overseas Basketball teams and coaches is something a lot of aspiring professional basketball players struggle with.
That's mainly because many people underestimate how difficult overseas basketball actually is.
In the world of professional basketball, connections are everything.
Hence, many coaches, players and basketball agents in the game will hold them close to their heart - and rarely give them out.
There needs to be a mindset shift.
Instead of DMing and cold-calling random people, try to establish a relationship and develop a network everyday.

You have to dance to the music!! Do the dance in terms of reaching out to people in the right way and being a professional. You as a professional basketball player are your own brand and need to represent yourself as such. Completely agree José!

There’s a dance to the game! That’s what some aren’t understanding. But in the end, everyone wants the same thing.

The problem is people are jealous and don’t want to help you. I know guys from the NBA that I’ve dominated and they still have not helped me get a job even though we made connections outside. I know guys that have played overseas and I asked them if they have connections. I’ve also had people offer me jobs, and then completely ghost me. Numerous times. Bottom line is at this point it has to be an act of God.

I wouldn't go into any relationship or interaction with the expectation someone puts you on. I think that's a recipe for disappointment. Instead, think of just building your basketball network. If something happens, it happens. If not, then you know one more person. People can sniff out when someone is trying to use them for something (not saying you are doing that but in general). I agree some people genuinely may not want you to succeed. But I think that's rare in this case - especially if these people are already at a higher level (overseas, NBA) than you. Instead, I'd think one of these scenarios are happening: 1. They don't have the power to put you on 2. They don't have a good enough relationship with you so they don't care enough 3. They forgot or circumstances changed

@ OK I understand that, but I have a trainer who played in the NBA as well, and he has gone out of his way to make hints at him being a connection when I’ve never asked him for that and even he has witheld connections that he openly talks about to me. When he brings up these people, should I take advantage of that opportunity and ask him then or should I just leave it alone unless he makes an offer? Because I do enjoy training with him, but I’ve been training with him for a long time now, and I feel like he would’ve already made a call. He knows the type of person I am we have a very deep bond. I’ve been training with this guy every single day for four years straight. He’s seen me dominate nba talent. It’s not a question of my character or skill it’s my resume. But connections ELEVATE your resume. That’s the whole point of a connection. I’m interested to hear your thoughts. If you had a trainer that was an NBA connection, would you continue to train with him or not? If you were in my position given the information that I have told you. By the way, this is all on my phone, so it’s pretty exhausting to get into detail about things, but I can assure you that I’m not some selfish asshole who is only looking for himself. I’m very good at communicating with people and networking however, it gets exhausting. Getting to know all of these people who are in the end really don’t want to help you. I’m just at a point of desperation .

@@blackout2430 if you feel like he’s making you a better ball player - then yes I would keep training with him! After all, I feel like that should be the primary purpose of working with a trainer. Everything else (putting you on) would be secondary perks. If you guys have been training for four years and have a good relationship then I would definitely let him know of your intentions. See what he says and if he can help. Maybe remind him every once in a while. Tell him about what you’re doing on your own end to help achieve your goals. I feel like people are also more willing to help when they see how bad someone wants something. I understand some people just talk to talk. I had a coach who did that to me in multiple occasions. After a while I just viewed him as a coach but nothing more - not someone who got my hopes up for putting me on. I get your frustration for sure bro. It is a difficult journey.
