HEY Scotty, I need a new engine for my 2012 chevy cruze. Can I get a ATK remanufactured engine? Like for the 1998 thru 2003 chevy Tahoe, suburban ect. The tech said I won't fit with my electronics but can i just use a carburetor and ignore the electronics? I can't afford a new vehicle and chevy can't keep any engines in stock and their repair techs are not knowledgeable. Please help when you can.
@@dirtymikentheboys5817 You need the exact year and type for your Cruze. Good luck doing a carb swap. Chevy resistance type wasted spark ignition would be a nightmare trying to make a drive by wire throttle body work with a carb. MSD used to sell a distributor for the 2.2, 2.0 ecotec. Good luck finding one. SWAPPING different type engine? The repair techs know this is a waste of time. Jasper Engines if you don't want ATK.
@@fromthebackofmymind Why, is this engine so difficult for techs to handle? Why are parts so rare? Why can't i do a throttle by wire system,? Are the electronics embedded in the engine? Why do I need the same exact year? A 2012 vehicle can't use a 2014 chevy cruze( if you can find it) engine? I just don't get why mechanic can't fix it correctly. Thanks I'll look into jasper engines.
I am the original owner of a 2002 8.1 liter avalanche 2500. It has carried everything from 3 kids, loads of gravel, 8 ft sheets of plywood etc. Through the harshest weather from 120 degrees to subzero temperatures. Best truck I've ever owned. ❤💜
I just bought a 2002 Chevy avalanche and it has some problems and I haven't had the time or nor the money to get anything fixed on it except changing the oil with some Lucas oil treatment but so far is running just fine all except for the O2 sensors has the check engine light on but as far as anything else is running just fine ....
My 2007 Chevy Avalanche made it to 381,000 miles before it gave me transmission issues. I bought it with 67,000 miles in 2016. It’s been on of the best vehicles I’ve ever bought.
I have the 04 avalanche Z71 package 288k miles...😂 I ❤️ bubba blue... $14k 10yrs ago and he's still going. I've rebuilt so much of him but like he said it's so easy to fix. My mechanic does the hard stuff I don't have tools or knowledge to do and he even jokes how much I must love this truck.
Avalanche is a big unsung hero. The early 2000 Chevys are solid for their truck/SUVs with those Vortec V8s. I still have my 2000 Silverado 5.3 V8 Z71 LT 4x4 Extended Cab. May have shoddy plastic interior and the notorious wearing of the driver seat ridge by door but runs like a clock and never leaves me stranded. Got it from a Marine in like 2008 getting deployed for $5100.00. 4x4 works (even has Auto 4wd), transmission shifts smooth, and best of all it's paid off.
I'm 58 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, we are finding it impossible to replace it. We can get by, but cant seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 40years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for
Mate I live in New Zealand just retired can easily live on the pension, house paid off, I go fishing every week stay in my little trailer with annexe at the beach, got my own boat. Life is good. Good luck
Hey - I've been hearing about Richard for a long time now. Started during the pandemic and I've heard of how accurate his signals is.. I really do appreciate hearing your advice and feel that it is genuine
who is your coach if this is not too much i'm asking? I've been looking into advisors lately myself, my retirement plans are going down the drain, my 401k has particularly lost everything gained since 2019
These early 2000’s Chevys were so solid built. My dad had a 2004 Suburban and I drove it everyday in high school. It needed a new transmission at 220k miles but other than that, it never had any problems.
My wife still drives an 01 Tahoe with almost 310k on it, still runs strong on the trans I put in a few years ago. Then they ruined these marvelous 5.3s with AFM and reliability went to pot.
And they are literally everywhere here in Texas! We have loved our 04, 05, & 2013 Avalanches. They are great trucks & family haulers as well. Super smooth like a Suburban.
The avalanche was a victim of its marketing. No one knew what it was, or why anything about it made sense. What really amazes people when i haul anything with mine is that you can haul a load requiring the midgate dropped, such as lumber or sheetrock, and still have a sealed cabin as you dont actually have to take the window out to drop the midgate. Its very versatile.
I love my 07 avalanche, bought used in great condition. Currently at 130k miles ,has never had a serious issue. She eats oil fairly quickly when im towing, but who careeees. One of the best decisions ive ever made in a life heavy with mistakes haha.
Everytime i see a new Scotty video im excited because all he does is speak facts into existence.Ive started fixing cars and everything ive learned is because of scotty.👍
I have a 2002 5.3 bought it for $1,900 at 240,000 miles. I’m at 280,000 now and it’s going strong with some occasional small fixes. These things are mule horses.
We have an 09 loaded up in great condition, that we got for 11K, 3 years ago. I love it! Runs great, and hardly have had any problems with it. Thanks Scotty!
I own a '04 avalanche as well. 175,000 miles on it, and still runs great. I have the undercarriage rust problem, but being that I live in New York, it's expected.
My 2004 Chevy Avalanche Z66 is still running like a champ at 174K miles. I bought it new 18+ years ago. I replaced the transmission with a rebuilt one at 149K miles and that was the only major repair done. I change the oil regularly and replace the tires and shocks when needed. A great truck!
Just got mine early this year. 06 with 113k on it Edit* Scotty forgot to mention the built in compartments over the rear wheels. Can use them to store tools or as a cooler (they have drains)
The only thing is that the 2002 to 2005 are better than the 2006 and later. In 2008, they switched platforms and the engine had this horrible fuel shutoff scheme that caused massive oil leaks. I want a 2004 or 2005 if I get another.
If it was a truck you thought you wanted then Definitely get one! My first one was a gift. I drove it for over a decade kept it an bought another one a few years ago. Unfortunately my first one was stolen earlier this year. I’m still pretty pissed off about that. But they’re great trucks! Just make sure you check for rusty frames!
Currently have an 04 avalanche. Still in amazing shape. Paint intact and original interior. I love my avalanche. I do have the Z66 2WD version, but honestly the only place I have ever missed 4WD is at the beach. I do wish I had the Z71 since I am keeping it until it dies. It just turned 200K last week. I have a couple small issues with the PCV Vent Valve and I am replacing the wheel hub this weekend, but overall, this thing is rock solid.
My '02 Avalanche is still a daily driver. 338,000 miles on original 5.3 and tranny. Z71. Still runs like new. Maintenance is everything. I'll keep it till it dies
The Chevrolet Avalanche is one of the best trucks that GM has ever made in history, the older ones from 2002 to 2006. It is also similar to the 2003 to 2006 Cadillac Escalade EXT. The newer GM pickups have a lot of problems with active fuel management, which turns off half the cylinders of the engine to save fuel.
avalanche has been my favorite ride for the past few years now. I don't mind putting money into it as it offers so much capability. Even if the trans goes eventually (mines got 180k) I can find them locally and under $1300. Id say the most annoying feature on the 5.3 is the knock sensors. I have a mechanic who did mine for dirt cheap. Second is probably the oil pressure switch . Third if piston slap and or lifter tick but neither really hurts the engine. Brake lines were fully replaced in mine but depending on where you find one it may not be necessary. Trans lines are next .
I do believe they're still putting the belt drive on the 3.5 liter Honda I just did it 120,000 k I think it's supposed to be $140 but I just got it done just for the hell of it I love the 3.5 L in my 2008 Honda Accord but you shouldn't drive any more than 160,000 K with that timing belt before you get the kit installed it's about $900 Canadian to get that done
I've been saying since I found Scotty that 99 to '06 Chevy full size trucks and SUVs are the greatest ones ever made, especially the half ton everyday driver truck knock around truck. They make the best one from 1973 all the way to 2006 and my picture is a Ford symbol so that says a lot
@@oreally8605 Well yes. 5200lb half ton is thirsty. My Ram got 11mpg in the city with the 273cid sohc engine. 1hp per cubic inch in any half ton and leave it alone. Plenty. We often towed 3,000 to 8,000lb so it held up pretty good for eight years.
@@BuiltDifferent13 Guys are beginning to salivate on all the 3.8V6's starting to accumulate in the yards. The new smallblocks for costly fuel. Best check for used pickup is no rust out under passenger floor from clogged A/C drain. Ford, Dodge and Chevy.
I've nearly 300K miles on my 2002 Avalanche. Husband changes oil and takes care of most everything for me. Gas gage quit working and he was ready to set it in fire by the time he dropped the gas tank. Said he'd cut hole in floor board if he ever had to replace again. No serious issues. Just this morning after going over railroad tracks, the back window fell down and I can't get it up @scottykilmer. I hate he's gotta wake up to another Honey Do, but I recently had had surgery and he's going to be on his own pretty much. Any pointers. Motor works so it must be out of track. I tried lifting straight up, I can't. Tried slight wobble up left to right over and over, still can't get it all the way up. It falls back down anyways. Ugh!
Thanks for checking it out Scotty! Owner of the '02 Chevy Avalanche here. Going to address some common comments. 1. I live in Connecticut, within the rust belt. If you don't live this far north you don't know about rust! The rust is not too bad considering other Avalanches that I recently checked out. Especially considering the '02 Dodge Dakota with the snapped frame at 200k that the Chevy replaced. For 0 payments, I'll take a little rust, it's going to happen anyways up here. 2. Euro license plate was a gift to me by the wonderful welcoming people of ADAC Rallye Erzgebirge where I volunteered in Germany earlier this year when I studied abroad. The first 1-3 set of letters on the plate is the city or county code. Mine is "STL" for Stollberg, Germany! 🇩🇪 VW and BMW bros break their neck when they see an authentic Deutschland plate on an American truck! The plate frame is from Rammstein's Berlin store. Reise, Reise translates to "Travel, Travel" and I hope to return to Europe again soon! 3. Fuzzy steering wheel covers are the best coming out of turns on a cold morning, and will protect the steering wheel. You either hate them or love them. 4. Really enjoy seeing those in the comments sharing their Chevy GMT800 experiences, especially high mileage ones! Gives me hope for a long life! 5. Yes I paid $4k cash for this and did some work to it myself like the filler neck, undercoating as seen in the video, and replaced some parts that were busted. 6. I held out for this deal, was looking for over a month, checked out 2 other Avalanches but they were clapped out. This one was mechanic owned, stock, and maintained. I got the '02 for classic plates in Connecticut, and it is one of the better years of the Avalanche. 7. Locking tool/beer/miscellaneous storage on both sides of the bed! 3 bed covers lock in place and can hold 200lbs each. Used it as a platform for a ladder yesterday. Tailgate locks, bed has plastic liner, also my quad fits great with the midgate down and the tailgate up. Danke schön Scotty, was great to meet you and hear some of your stories!
We’ve owned three Avalanches, currently have an 04 & 2013. Don’t walk on the covers if you don’t need to, & if you do then walk on the outsides of them. People complain that they leak, but they walk on them in the middle & warp them. Just a heads up! Also, look into getting a servo for the transmission. Enjoy! These trucks are awesome!
If you had $4000 and nothing more, I'd buy a ford ranger if you just need a economic small pickup with a bed. Or go with a 1st gen sequoia/tundra if you need something to pull some weight. The sequoias are more likely to be in the 4k range (i doubt youll find a tundra)
Depending on where you live, the prices will definitely vary. I picked up a good one in CA for $8k, that was the lowest I could find it. Ironically enough it was in better condition than the higher priced ones I looked at.
I got a 2006 Florida avalanche for 3k, needed the abs pump thing, other thst it’s great. I love it, Ive gotten so much use out this truck and even has made me money lol 178k
I love my avalanche I had 2 an 09 which I sold and I miss it! and currently driving an 04 Z71 great trucks I love them the 04 has about 345k km and still runs and drives like new ❤
99-2006 gmc Chevy v8 4.8l, 5.3l, 6.0l, 8.1l are the best affordable trucks full size suvs you can buy , far cheaper and way easier to fix repair than a toyota. And if you think toyota so great look up these same years and problems with headgaskets, piston valve problems and the costs to repair. A headgasket alone in a toyota v6 v8 is $4-$5k.
Had a couple. Very functional, but had water leaks at the midgate. Had a few electrical issues too with one being the cluster. Once this customer gets a few problems, Scotty will post a video that this is the biggest POS out there.
I had an 02 upgraded to an 03 just yesterday i bought another 03 cause it just had an escalade 6.0 fully rebuild did 375hp full exhaust long headers, full transmission rebuild couldn't pass ive never seen 1 this clean 0 rust from a spoil rich kid just need a front brake line done he bought a diesel gmc & fell in love with it 😂everything in the avalanche is under 5km
the Chevy Avalanche owner should replace the infamous heater hose connectors found on most 2000-2007 chevy silverado/tahoe gmc sierra/yukon/yukon xl and some cadillac models. This part is known to fail due to constant temperature changes and being that it is plastic. Dorman make a stainless steel heater hose connector Part number: 800-409HP he going to need qty: 2.
I own one with 140xxx miles it needs new parts and liquids changed but so far its a dependable driver , fires up everytime but its not so gas friendly v8 ya know
Landlord’s 1994 Chevy Silverado is nearing 300,000. Still a solid performer. I overhauled the AC for him, as well as front brakes, radiator, serpentine belt and tensioner, new spark plugs and wires, new front tires, etc. Its been a solid performer for decades. 350V8 TBI, made in Windsor, Ontario. Can’t get this kind of dependability and quality anywhere, as well as readily available parts.
I am original owner of a 2004 chevy Z71 avalanche fully loaded all options still use it 360,00 miles, only thing i have ever done to motor was replace throttle body, replaced rear end and transmission 10 years ago oil change every 3000 miles since owned professionally maintained , headliner replaced once along with other mech issues all fixes were new replacement parts, if i keep it , will drop crate motor same size and replace carpet and re upholster front seats with original leather, paint is original charcoal grey metallic you want it as is 6000,00 the price, still runs fine. no issues.
That avalanche looks brand new compared to my neighbors 05 avalanche! The Wisconsin winters rusted his out bad, several sheet metal screws and duct tape holding the plastic molding on haha.
I got just a 06 with 100k the engine will run for about 15 to 20 minutes then starts to sputter shuts off but you can restart it again and it will cycle again plz help
I've been telling people for over a decade - the GMT800 Avalanche is a fantastic truck. I sadly gave mine up at 200,000 miles because no one drove it, it was hard to find parking, got only 12 MPG, and needed work.
Most of the GMT800 platforms with those Vortec V8s are very solid built reliable vehicles. I still have my Silverado @ 225k miles and it has never left me stranded and any fixes were cheap/easy... most of it just normal maintenance/ wear.& tear.
Ours has over 200k on it, and is still running good. Mostly highway driven and gets about 17 mpg, unless the wife drives it... Wouldn't trade it for anything! It will carry everyone, and hauls just about anything!
@@franky-fr9ow It is a HUGE truck and does not fit in most parking spaces. Just try backing out of a space with other trucks nearby. My son would always laugh because I could not fit it straight as there was never enough room to swing in. Then the two cars on either side would barely allow me to open my door half way.
@@pg1171 Impressive! Mine usually got 12 - 13 MPG. At around 180,000 miles, the engine developed lifter issues, which would need expensive repairs. I gave it up.
I have an 02 Z71 with 460k. The engine has NEVER been opened, not even a valve cover off. I’m on trans number two and have replaced the fuel pump, alt, and a belt tensioner. That’s it. 4wd still pulls great. Best truck I’ve ever had by a long shot. Oh and the ac has never been serviced and will still freeze you out.
People who are saying they’re junk have obviously never owned one or owned an ill maintained one. My dad has had 4 and currently has 2. One here and one in Mexico, they’re still running great with 180k+ miles.
@@shiftmotorsports9803 Because they are owned and built by parts from gm. Gm used to be reliable until the quality control issue they put themselves in. I dont hate on chevy itself. Its more like I hate gm which is where chevy gets their parts from.
@@Colynthesavage Do you mean ac/delco? GM has owned them since 1916. Did something change in 2005? GM gets parts from many other suppliers as well. They make pretty good body on frame trucks and sports cars. I personally wouldn't purchase anything else as most are Korean made.
@@shiftmotorsports9803 any company that has anything to do with gm is a waste of money. No matter how you break it down, every company associated with gm has a solid bankrupt record. Dodge isnt worth a penny either. Unless it has a cummins which is very hard to find, dodge does the same as gm. They screw over their customers because they are greedy and get paid to rip people off.
Your good, with a personality, yah rock 😅🎉😂❤😂😅 love as for your my brother with a different mother, we have the same Father. 4 reals never change Thank you
