Erik Lee it’s rated for 8200 lbs actually. The tongue weight limit is a uk thing and is less detrimental than that limit would imply. I towed a 6k lb airstream with my LR3 with way above the tongue limit although somewhat mitigated with a weight distribution hitch w/ no issues. On this trip I also had several hundred pounds of housing stuff in the cabin as I’m moving to Atlanta from Seattle. Just my opinion but I prefer the combination of on road and off road performance. I drive many miles to get to my destinations and the comfort of the Defender is just amazing. Both are expensive for sure. I’m an original D90 owner, and of course this new Defender is far from that. I’ve also owned a 17’ Wrangler 4 door. I get what both offer, but in the end, the Jeep will win in multiple ways. Resale, reliability, and finally overall cost to own. Bums me out, because I recently drove a new 90 and really liked it. BUT ... the cost of entry is high, there is no real lease option, and apparently the services run over $1000. That’s a stiff number. Additionally, reliability is a huge concern for me.I’ve watched many videos, talked to owners and folks in the know. It has scared me off LR. The Jeep on the other hand has me interested. This is not aimed at the Defender, rather a lot of new "technology based" off road vehicles. The reason I have owned a Wrangler for so many years and will continue to own one is because of their old school systems. I go off road for the fun to it, not to have a technology based system help me creep over an obstacle.
@dadventuretv2538
@dadventuretv2538 3 года назад
I get your point. And Im not being a douche here but asking because I love talking about this stuff. So in a Rubi you manually put it into four wheel drive, either high or low. And that helps you get over stuff. Then you manually lock the rear or front diff and that helps you get over stuff. In my LR4 I have a locking center diff, low range and a locking rear diff. Difference is the center diff locks electronically and automatically instead of manually, and rear diff locks electronically and automatically instead of manually and instead of a locking front diff it has brake control. Low range is still a manual select. Is pushing a button yourself instead of the veh locking the diff or putting it into four wheel drive automatically really that different? I mean we’re all using technology to get us over obstacles or through muck? Anyway, main thing is we’re all out in the mud having fun, no matter how we do it. See you on the trails. 🤙

Much better suspension and unlike the defender the wrangler actually has suspension travel. Difference us if the electronics fail, and they will, at the worst time, that defender won't do squat offroad. The wrangler on the other hand, would be just fine, especially a Rubicon with the swaybar disconnect and lockers. LR has done a great job making it capable offroad but it took tons of electronics to do it because lets face it, in offroad height it has virtually zero suspension travel. Bounces like a car resting on its bump stops and lifts wheels on the smallest obstacles. It took alot of electronics and programming to compensate for the suspension design. Im a Land Rover guy but im disappointed thay the defender is such a departure from the original. If they'd have at least given it a solid rear axle then it could have been a decent replacement. As good as it is, its not a real replacement for the original. Much like the current Cherokee could never be a replacement for the XJ.

While wrangler is a nice capable machine, great looks, I would rather go to the dentist than spend 3 h on a highway with it. I have the p300 defender base version with some off-road and safety options added on order, and at least in europe it came out cheaper than a 4 door sahara wrangler . I will use it for long road trips and some medium off roading to get to nice camping spots. Something I could never do in a wrangler. When I see someone ina wrangler that I know is a long way from home and must have driven many hours on the higway, all I can think of is the stamina of that driver. If you have a bigger family and have someone in the back seats, you should know that the wrangler is basically a death trap. This is something else to consider and nobody makes this point in defender vs wrangler. Defender is one of the safest cars you can drive right now.

I had the same issue, LRNA was good about it. One threatening letter and they bought the car back and I had the car for over a year and put a bunch of miles on it. Part of it is build quality and suspect technology, the other issue is the incompetence of the dealers and their supply chain issues. I had huge issues with multiple LR dealers service departments, not knowing what they are doing. I even had one inadvertently break my functioning LR3, nothing like bringing in a car with no codes for a fluid leak and getting a car back throwing codes and they quoted me $800 to fix the codes and over 2k to fix the trans fluid leak($3k total), managed to clean the contacts on the TCM and reprogram the computer myself for $0, there was nothing wrong with it besides a dirty contact which didn't cause a problem until they tried to upgrade the TCM. Had an independent euro mechanic fix the trans leak with a pan kit I bought from roverparts, $300 for the pan kit and $400 in labor so way better than the $2300, what worse as I had to pay the crooks 2 hours labor(I think 165 per hour, plus tax and shop supplies) for their inspection nearly $375 for breaking the car. These dealers don't pay their mechanics well, a lot of the best mechanics from dealerships go out on their own. On the new one I went through 2 dealers until I went to the one who I bought my LR3 from and who used to work on the car before I moved, they sorted it out, by that time it seemed like the car was OK but since LR already agreed to take it back at no cost to me I went ahead and returned it despite not really wanting to. Something about 70 days at the dealer service department makes the smart bet returning the vehicle. My advise is move forward with the buy back department(1-800-637-6837, tell them you want to open a complaint and threaten them with the lemon law because in most states anything over 30 days in the shop is eligible) and/or find another dealer. LRNA was terrible about the dealer network you complain about the dealer and they do nothing and they will not directly deal with them, they need to crack down on these guys as it represents them very poorly. The dealers should be catching defects before the customer and should be able to fix the vehicles, also it seems a lot of the delays seems to be about parts supplies. LR knows how unreliable their vehicles are and should have parts put aside for repair and in North America, what happens is there is one thing wrong so they order a part and it takes a week or 2 to come from the UK, than they see something else wrong, so it's another part, and then another part and the next thing you know they've had the car a month..... It's not the experience you should get after paying $75 for a new car.

And, ummmm....where does the winch go on that Defender? Or the rock sliders? Skid plates? And what about real articulation? While it is a pretty darn capable vehicle, going off road involves a lot more than ground clearance, approach/departure angles, and traction control. Personally when I go off road I'd much rather rely on real articulation, real lockers and real armor than sensors and computers, because I know which is more reliable. Really going off road requires being tough, and I'm not seeing that in the unibody Defender.

It's like when you are talking about "now the Defender has a 3rd row of seats", as though this is a new thing. Older 110's could seat 12 people in them! Being able to only seat 7 in the new one is a huge step backwards really, not something new & revolutionary. Roman says in the upper 20% the Wrangler is much more capable for rock crawling etc. Prepare to eat your words. Tommy turns on the camera to “see through the bonnet” but doesn’t drive forward so it shows a black box. The way the camera works is it scans the ground in front and then as you move forward it “moves” that image to underneath the front allowing you to see what Was in front but is now underneath. Going up the first step in the Defender Tommy says this is where the wheels are gonna start to slip. And then they don’t (slight rotation of the left rear as it lost contact momentarily). Roman says access to the third seat. He means 3rd row (6th & 7th seats). Alpine windows - not lights. Then he says this is the first time in the third row but when they first got the car he rode in the very back for a while, while Tommy drive him about (perhaps that was their 1st Defender). And they he says he gets his own temperature control in the back - no Roman it’s just a Fan control, not temp. As for the Wrangler, don’t need or want a 2 High mode - it’s a pointless waste of time. You’ve got to stop saying “third Land Rover” as your second is irrelevant - it was damaged by a dealer. It wasn’t faulty. Sick of hearing this crap. Overall the Defender is just the better vehicle.

I'm all in this Wrangler. I'll never be able to afford one, but I actually do think it's kind of a good value. Considering this is a loaded up Rubicon, which would probably be 50-55K for even the base V6, considering this has a Hemi swap and some other things make it actually seem like a good value. And they probably won't sell a ton of these, so resale value is going to be ridiculously good as well. Also, I think the price is basically a non-issue. Yeah, I'm sure there's some people that are going to stretch themselves out to make a monthly payment on this, but I would think that most people looking to buy something like this are pretty well-off and will purchase this just as a toy, or as some sort of tax write-off for their business or RU-vid channel.
