4:57 It really *does* have valves (vacuum tubes) inside. As the text on the window suggests, they are 2 x NOS (New Old Stock) General Electric 5670. iFi have bought up the remaining supply of these tubes.
I was super excited to see that this actually has a tube in it on its own Input separate from the solid state, so swapping between modes is actually legit!
at this point i can NOT do anything productive without you talking in the background, i used to listen to music but that didnt put me in the right headspace, it almost did but your talks really help me do 3hrs of painting in one sitting without doing a single sigh. ty
A few things that I was hoping to find out in this review: 1. how does it work as a streamer, it is easy to setup, interface is stable... etc 2. is integrated streamer on par with Project Stream BoxS2 ultra? Streambox S2 Ultra plus RS2 DAC is about the same price as this, so it would be interesting. Specially when S2 Ultra does benefit from the IFI USB filter, so that would be interesting. 3. External storage is limited to some capacity like Matrix Element X is limited to 128GB for some stupid reason 4. How is the line outputs? Paired with any good amp not necessary the iCAN, how does it sound, and here we again quite some devices to compare it with, like Project RS2, matric Element M, Chord Qutest + Power suply 5. Any testing with DSD, specially DSD 1024 that recently become available to general public? Not sure others, but when I spend decent money on equipment I use it with the best recordings I can get, I am not using my system to play some generic FLAC ripped from a CD.
So your takeaway is that it's overpriced? But yet you didn't touch on any of the other features such as using it as a streamer? I was hoping for a review that gave more than the specs on paper. Particularly the streamer functions 😕
It doesn’t just have the logo of GE but it also says General Electric. I just thought you would’ve mentioned General Electric first instead of the logo. Interesting to me.
What a weird synchronicity. Two days ago I was researching DAC/Amps. I'm favoring the Shure SHA900 because I really like the mobility aspect as I'm a laptop user. It has good reviews and a (relatively) reasonable price point. Have you had any personal experience with it? This was the last place I was expecting to find DAC/amp advice lol.
Adam, thanks for the great video. I also have the Arya's and as you know they can be very detailed and light on the bass. Since you have that same headset, what would you recommend for under $1500.00 for an all in one Dac / Amp combo that could be used say in a camper with a laptop or when going to a friend house could be put in back back? I have the Ifi MircoDSD BL, but it has to use the battery. So for a budget of $1500.00 what would you recommend? Thanks.
