Hello everyone! How are you, children? I hope you're all doing well and enjoying your learning, especially in computer science. Today, we're going to solve another scenario-based question from the May/June 2023 paper, specifically from Paper 2. Remember, this paper is worth 75 marks, with the scenario-based question accounting for 15 of those marks.
To score well, we need to identify the requirements of the question. If we correctly identify and implement the necessary instructions, we can score up to 9 out of 9 marks. This involves understanding whether our pseudocode requires selection (if statements or case statements), iteration (loops like for, while, do-while), counting techniques, or totaling techniques. Additionally, we need to ensure our input and output statements are correct and appropriately positioned. If we pay attention to these details and use the proper programming techniques, we can achieve good marks.
The second part of the assessment focuses on commenting and meaningful identifiers, which are worth 6 marks. Fully commenting on our pseudocode or program code, using suitable and meaningful identifiers, and ensuring the program follows a logical order (input, processing, output) are crucial. If our solution is accurate and meets all requirements, we can score 6 out of 6 marks here.
Remember, the entire paper duration is 1 hour and 45 minutes. It's suggested to complete the initial questions within an hour, leaving 45 minutes to calmly tackle the scenario-based question.
Now, let’s discuss the problem. We have a 1D array `days` containing the names of the days of the week and a 2D array `readings` to store 24 hourly temperature readings for each of the seven days. Additionally, there's a 1D array `averageTemp` to store the average temperature for each day. The temperatures are in Celsius and range from -20°C to 50°C.
Our task is to:
1. Input and validate hourly temperatures for one week.
2. Calculate and store the average temperature for each day.
3. Calculate the overall average temperature for the week.
4. Convert the average temperatures from Celsius to Fahrenheit.
5. Output the average temperatures in both Celsius and Fahrenheit for each day.
6. Output the overall average temperature in both Celsius and Fahrenheit for the whole week.
First, we initialize the `days` array with the names of the days. Then, we input and validate the hourly temperatures for each day using a nested loop and a repeat-until loop for validation. After inputting the temperatures, we calculate the total daily temperature, store it, and then compute the average temperature for each day.
Next, we calculate the overall average temperature for the week. Finally, we convert the average temperatures from Celsius to Fahrenheit and output both the Celsius and Fahrenheit values for each day, along with the overall weekly average temperatures.
By following these steps and ensuring our code is well-commented and logically ordered, we can successfully complete the scenario-based question.
Let's get started and if you have any questions along the way, feel free to ask!
