IGN gives its review of the Metal Gear Solid: HD collection. 3 classic games come to the PlayStation 3, but do they make an exclamation mark appear over our heads? Get more MGS at IGN: ps3.ign.com/objects/110/110044...
MGS 3 story is all over the place? You must have a short attention span because it is one of the easiest to follow and is hands down the best in the franchise.
@Aaron9 do you mean storywise or gameplay wise? Because if you're saying MGS1 has the best gameplay in the series, then you're deluded and blinded by nostalgia.
...MGS 3 all over the place? I thought it was the easiest and the simplest story out of the trilogy to follow. It had it's dumb moments like the cobra unit and the stunts that eva managed to pull on a motorcycle. And having a villain with 10 million volts of electricity going through him.
tom meyer I agree, I said they were kinda of dumb (they were kinda of silly at times). They were a ton of fun to fight, and they were interesting personality wise. Especially the fury and once again the end (which are some of my favorite boss fights ever!
+Stephen Pennington how to make an mgs story: 1. cutscenes are more important than gameplay. 2. start with a small mission to get settled into the game. 3. mind fuckery 4. boss battlez!!!!111!!!!1
8 years later i have the answer for you my friend Karim. Bluepoint, the developers who made the hd collection is working on a next-gen MGS 1 full remake.
Theophrastus Bombastus that’s an odd opinion. look at final fantasy 6 and than 7. 7s graphics look so dated now because it was the first 3D FF game. same can be for gameplay
Don't listen to the bullshit 9/10 and the "dated feel" the reviewer included. They're older games what do you expect? These are hands down the best games ever made. A must play! 10/10! Edit: Spelling.
10/10 would mean they are completely flawless and about as perfect as you can get. While they're amazing games, they were never 100% perfect. Plus games today generally have to be judged by how well they hold up, so 9/10 is an incredible score for something that's this old.
+Luka Tomić I love Hitman 2 Silent Assassin and Contracts. MGS is different. It is still stealth. But they just feel different. Don't get me wrong. Hitman is one of my favorite game franchises, but nothing in this world will surpass Metal Gear for me.
"Still, Peace Walker has the most sensible story of the 3 games." -IGN, referring to the MGS game with a talking cat, rocket hands, and final boss fight with a women in her underwear.
What system is this better on??? I've got a 360 and a vita. I was leaning toward the vita so i could build up my collection for it but I'm wondering if there's any differences
@shadowguy20004 Hey bro I just got it an hour ago and I was wondering which to play first because I've beaten Peace Walker before and the other PSP Metal Gear Solid games and I've gotten super far in Metal Gear Solid 1 so which should I play first? :D
Loved this collection! Played a huge Metal Gear marathon, including MGS4 after I first got my PS3. First time playing Metal Gear but I had always wanted to get into the franchise.
I have the Xbox 360 version of the HD collectiom but I'm having trouble because there are no controller popups so I don't know what I can interact with i mean if there is a enemy in front of me I don't know what to do because again no Popups I don't know if this is a bug or Maybe that's the way this was made can someone tell me if this was intentional I mean if the crappy 3ds port did it why wasn't this on the Xbox 360
Do i need to play the first metal gear solid for PS1 in order to understand these games? (Im new to this series since i was just a kid when the first one came out)
Yes, this is one of those game series where you cant just jump in. If you started half way through you would be so confused as to what is going on. You should play them all in order to get the full benefit of the story. Psp ones dont really matter as they are just ops. Id stick with the main series. 1,2,3,4,pw.
Okay thanks for the info :) Its time like this where i REALLY wish that when they make that effort of re-releasing games in HD they should atleast have the original in it somehow...
I'm relatively new to the Metal Gear games. I've played Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain and I like them both and I'm interested in trying out the others. Is this HD collection worth it?
Twin Snakes is Nintendo's MGS1 is on the ps-store Kojima didn't say he didn't like it. He actually expressively supported the new direction with over the top cut-scenes.
Christof Peternell do you have the disk version or the download version? If you have the disk version there should be two disks the second one containing Peace Walker. However, if you bought the download version it does not come with Peace Walker but you can buy the download version for 15 dollars if I’m not mistaken.
If you wish to play the games in order, well here is a list: MGS3, MGS Portable Ops, MGS Peacewalker, MGS5 (when it comes out), MG 1 (MSX2, included in MGS3), MG2SS (MSX2, included in MGS3), MGS1, MGS2, MGS4, MGRR, MGA1, MGA2 if you count those last 3 games.
when i fist played mgs i couldn't get enough of it, i always wanted to know what would happen next in each game... the story is absolutely superb and i gotta say the MGS series is my #1 favorite video game series of all time!
I remember playing MGS2 on PS2 a good while ago, never tried any other MGS games, except the first which I still enjoyed the most. Would any of you recommend getting this Collection?
Got this collection last week. Previously I had only played the original MGS and the remake on the Gamecube. I never owned a PS2 so I've never been able to play MGS 2 and 3. I just finished playing through Snake Eater for the first time ever and, my God, what an amazing game. MGS3 has quickly become one of my favorite games ever. I kind of want to move on to Peace Walker and Sons of Liberty, but I think I might play through Snake Eater again because it was so damn good.
PLZ RESPOND ASAP , if I buy this game disc for ps3 can I port it over to my vita . If not is their a way to only buy the collection once and still get the games on both consoles , thank you so much .
CatPianoClassics not really if it's just hd collection with 4 digital download of 1 and extra unreleased American comics whoop!! Big boss story is complete on either console u only need legacy if ur die hard or care 4 solid snake I don't I just like big boss
mmmmm I thought the same thing. However, HD collection cost $25 or less. Legacy is more expensive and have some games that you really dont care about playing. If you are like me, you just care for Peace Walker and maybe the all msx games. Also, you already have MGS 4.
Lol true, true! But still the artbook that came in that package was worth it! Even tough it was small its a most for a MGS fan! Really loved peace walker!!!
Definitely. Although I was interested in trying the MGS series for a while, I only recently played the HD collection and fell in love with the series. Already pre-ordered MGR and waiting for Ground Zeroes.
I hear they're both good, and I'd suggest playing the games in release order, seeing as how each game references the previous one, even if they're at different timelines. For example Peace Walker has spoilers for 4 even though Peace Walker take place DECADES earlier. But some people prefer to play story wise. Either way, these games are great!
I've been as happy as a pig in shit for the last five days playing this. The HD alone is amazing, and the full surround sound being added to the main games (not just the cut scenes as in the originals) is a huge bonus (the spacing of the audio and channel separation helps you to hear from where enemies are approaching), but the one thing that has blew my socks off is the transfer to full 16:9 widescreen. NOT cropped and zoomed, but with more info on the screen. Makes it beautifully cinematic.
phil drake ever heard of ape missions what are in mgs3 subsistance on ps2 and they can't put those to xbox version because ape escape is a ps exclusive and subsistance also gave lot extra videos what are not in hd versions either like metal gear snake eraser
Man, Metal Gear has a story so deep that doesn't really matter where you beggin with. It will be a great experience, however, instead of spending money on a new game I'd recomend you to emulate the first PSX game, or if you still have your PS2 or GameCube, you could get one of those games. If you get into the story, then you'll never leave it.
Yep friend get legacy and try to start with "Metal Gear 3 snake eater" that is chronologically the start of the story though "Metal gear Solid" psx is the first for Solid Snake ( Main Character) story
I'm playing it canonically and so far, so good: MGS3: Snake Eater, MGS: Peace Walker, Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid, MGS2: Sons Of The Patriots and MGS: Guns of the Patriots. I'll probably do it again to fit MGS5 in after release.
I've heard mixed things about mgs5. Is it worth playing it if I'm doing it chronologically or should I skip it and come to it at the end. Also, I'm missing mgs1, is it worth buying to play before mgs2
I personally grew up with those games.Endless hours of gaming, fantastic story. To me,It is the best series in video game history.Definitely gonna buy it.
I bought the Metal Gear Solid HD collection for my vita, just wanting to try out the series for the 1st time (note: MGSC for vita does not have MGS1). I played thru MGS2 and absolutely loved it. I'm now about halfway thru MGS3. Because the PSN had the sale for all the metal gear games on PSN, I downloaded MGS1 and MGS Peace Walker. After I beat 3, which game should I play next (if I need to follow storyline or anything)? Thanks!
I only ever played MGS 2 Briefly when I was young and found it pretty fun. I think I may of saw my brother play MGS 1 but I'm not sure. Anyway, my point is, I'm thinking of maybe getting this HD collection and I'm wondering, would this be a wise choice having missed playing MGS 1? because I've heard these games have deep stories?
A 9/10? A 9 when you have one of the best (if not the best) game ever created in this collection? Yet they give Uncharted 3 a 10/10... A 10/10 for one of the most linear experiences of all times. You've got to be kidding me. I love Uncharted but come on, in all objectivity you can't give Uncharted 3 (and even Uncharted 2 in all honestly) a higher score than this. Even MGS4 doesn't deserve a higher score than this just because you have a game in this collection that is called MGS3. Wanna know why? Just click on a video called 'MGS 3: Critical Close-up' and then you'll see what I'm talking about. I'm not a big fan of number ratings to be honest. But if you use them, at least have the intelligence to be consistent... Oh well who am I kidding. This is IGN right? Expecting intelligence from these guys isn't exactly smart either... But seeing how popular this channel is gives you an idea about how low the expectations have fallen in our beloved gaming medium...
I bought this collection for my 360 a couple years ago but I don't remember Peace Walker being in it, anyone know why it wouldn't have been there? I've just realised that there's an MGS game that I haven't played and I'm fuming haha.
What would you guys recommend? Buy Metal Gear Solid HD collection for the ps3 or buy the game on PS Vita (which only has MGS2 and MGS3) and also buy MGS:PW (I know buying the games on PS Vita would cost me more money)? For anyone who responds thank you and is the online of MGS:PW better in anyway on the PSP or PS3?
Unfortunately, you're either forced to emulate via Xenia or else if you're interested but you'll have to actually download the ISOs. But don't fret because if your computer is faster than Tony Montana after snorting rows of cocaine you could play flawlessly.
@@VGMR Hmmm.. perhaps signing up with ps now is my best bet then. Although, my internet connection is not the greatest so I expect my experience to be anything but flawless.
Anyone have this downloaded and wOuld gameshare? I can't gameshare but I'm looking to play all these again before tpp comes out. I'd really appreciate it!
